A Vow to Cherish (1999)
letting go, trusting God is hard, very hard
Subtle in it's build up, but beautiful in the way it introduces (or reminds us) --- God's love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness.
Storyline: A tragedy happens within a family. It affects each person differently -- anger, denial, prolonged grief, difficult decisions to be made, careers/businesses are impacted, sibling viewpoints don't match, new friends & helpers caught in limbo, ... feelings & behaviors we all too often experience ourselves.
Who will search for the better path and find redeeming grace...?
If you (the viewer) are going through a difficult season, life changes, illness, divorce, loss, empty nest, career changes, pressure to do it all, heavy load on your shoulders, or you are doubting yourself... this will be a movie you need to see let it bring LIGHT back to your path.
Arlen Faber (2009)
Love the park bench conversation & the chiropractor angle!
Good cast! Good story!
-Lauren Graham is as charming as ever, her talent of facial expressions always convey so much more!
-Jeff Daniels is terrific as an under-dramatic, curmudgeon-wannabe, with one-liners aplenty
>"I had questions, I needed answers..."
These tidbits, words of wisdom, & advice are fodder for memes!
-This film could have a bigger & wider audience! (cut the foul language, assign a different movie rating, tag as rom-com, relationships, discovery, first impressions, ...)
> The foul language by the lead male script in the entire intro and then 1/2, then it just stops?
> It wasn't necessary at all! Seemed weird for the character and the actor?
P.s. Side stories needed to be wrapped a bit neater or is that real-life for all of us? What happens next Alex, Anne, Kris, Terry,... 😉?
New Tricks (2003)
New Tricks - British crime drama with witty banter & hijinks
Clever play on the old adage "You can't teach an old dog new tricks"
Great casting for the early seasons!
Actors use appropriate humor/antics well balanced with respect for the fictious victims & families of the case at hand.
Plot intro: Sandra Pullman is placed in charge of a new police task force to re-examine cold cases. Small budget and no available officers, she must call upon retired police detectives (old dogs) to work together using more up-to-date police policies & procedures (new tricks).
Each episode is a stand-alone-case but the series follows this rag-tag team from learning their boss is a women to quite interesting character development to the "who done it" to close each case for good! Or at least that's the goal!
Easy to watch randomly or binge over a weekend or two. Some cases are "typical" murders or thefts - but several have twists and turns as the team investigates while trying to keep higher ups out of their unique methods of getting to the truth!
