Vivarium (2019)
Interpretation skills definitely needed
A great way to present a common struggle: living a "normal" life.
The "NORMAL" life goes something like this: Find someone to love, buy a house together, have kids (unwanted sometimes because, it just happens, right?), work yourself to death, lose yourself in the process, die.
This film shows a young couple, in love with each other, turned apart by an unwanted kid who's way different than they'd ever expected. The kid cries for attention, gets pushed-away because of it, then mimics the parent's behavior (because, from whom else should he learn from?), and only gets rewarded when meeting their expectations. The father works himself to death, mainly because he's avoiding anything that has to do with the kid, and the mother tries her best. They both loose themselves. All while the kid learns this unhealthy dynamic. The couple finally reconnects when the kid is gone, they had something special before they decided to pursue the "normal". By then it's already too late. Life is gone!
Does this sound familiar to anyone? I see it more often than I'd like. I can't be the only one who interprets it in this way! Right? This is a very GOOD FILM. (In my opinion). A lot of people will not get it, which in turn reflects on the "rating". You just (DEFINITELY) need some skills to understand it, which also comes with the ability to question your behavior, relationships, dynamics and overall, questioning whatever is considered "normal".
I Care a Lot (2020)
Great start, terrible ending
I couldn't care less.
It started strong, then the quality of the story just wasn't there any more, the details, the coherence.
WolfWalkers (2020)
Mmmm lost me half way...
Beautiful colors and animation of course. Love the combination of what seems a side&above view of the picture, both at the same time. Also to the music is great. Sadly, the fact that the little girl spends half of the movie crying and the father is always saying "do what you're told" gets pretty annoying after the 4th time. The end is kind of fast in comparison with 2/3 of the movie, so some things or scenes are not coherent anymore.
