Dutch tradition in a new form
7 November 2005
Anyone who knows, or would like to know about the dutch tradition of Sinterklaas, should simply see this movie. Seeing it in a cinema filled with children makes it even more fun. Meet Winkie Wong, originally from China gets confronted with the upcoming event of Sinterklaas coming to town. Tradition allows children, if they have been good throughout the year, to ask Sinterklaas whatever they would like to get. This makes Winkie hope and think beyond her expectations. Right from the beginning it becomes obvious Winkie would not settle for less then asking for a horse.

And because of the 'weirdness' of this dutch tradition, it makes this movie so cute and a must see for anyone, with or without kids.

Hmpffff

Ok i have to admit that the main reason of seeing this movie was because its been made by the same director as Priscilla Queen of the Desert ( Stephan Elliot ) And that was probably my mistake. The story appeared to me in a Flintstone kind of way ( negative way ) how a story originally fun, turns out to be mediocre. Australian backgrounds, the Northern Territory ( where communities like the WoopWoops would not even surprise me ) and a weird bunch of people. What lacks in this movie is that from the moment that the maincharacter is forced to be part of the community, it automatically becomes obvious how the story will continue... Besides a few very funny moments, i cant agree on saying this is a Must-see :(
