Apa kata dunia!!!
2 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
In this sequel to Nagabonar (1986), the now old Nagabonar was asked to live with Bonaga, his foreign educated son, for a while in Jakarta. This was an effort by Bonaga to ask Nagabonar's permission to turn the family palm plantation into a resort. This outraged Nagabonar since the family cemetery was in the plantation. Distraught, he left his son's house and got himself lost in Jakarta.

The theme of this movie is refreshing among Indonesian movies which is now consists of cheap horror flicks and teen romance. The script is filled with dialogues that are funny, smart, and satirical without becoming offensive. The problem is the movie seem to have climaxed in the middle, when Nagabonar agreed to Monita's plan. From that point onwards the story seem to lose direction.

Overall, it is still good movie and a must see of every Indonesian.

waste of time and money
2 September 2007
In an effort to repeat the commercial success of Eiffel I'm In Love, another movie was made starring Shandy Aulia and Samuel Rizal. This time it's even more ambitious. If Eiffel had sequences shot in Paris, the third act of this movie was shot in San Fransisco.

It's obvious the movie had big budget for an Indonesian film. Unfortunately they don't know how to put it into good use. Instead of getting a good script, good actors, and good crews, they spend it ripping off other movies such as Catch Me If You Can (the title sequence), Sin City (the pointless walking in the rain sequence), Kill Bill (the shot of the plane), Mission : Impossible 2 (the flamenco sequence), and even Matrix Reloaded (the car chase sequence with bad CGI cars).

The only redeeming factor was I got to see this for free on 2006 JiFFest.

Mahasiswa bandung (2001 Video)
bandung lautan asmara
1 August 2006
wow, I didn't expect to find this on IMDb. This is an actual tape of a couple of college students in Bandung documenting the night they spent together in a hotel room. The overall quality of the video is poor, since it was shot by amateurs on what would most likely be a budget camcorder.

There were some funny moments though, for example when the girl choked when he tried to give a blow job in the bathtub.

This supposedly private documentation leaked to the public because Adi, the boy in the tape, didn't know how deleting files works in windows 98. Due to the magic of CD writer, it spreads like wildfire. The street price for the video reached Rp 50000 (about US$ 5), that's more than 10 times the price of a blank CD.

Rumah Ketujuh (2003)
lacks real emotion
1 April 2003
The latest of Mira Lesmana production Rumah Ketujuh was a romantic-comedy set to be released for Valentine's Day 2003. The story was about two childhood friends, each have different beliefs in searching for their soulmate. The girl relies on astrology, while the boy likes to interprets his dreams.

With this kind of movie, the audience know how the movie ends even before the first act is over. Everybody knows the destination. It's the journey that counts. Unfortunately, despite some interesting things going on througout the movie, there's no real excitement, no real hardship that makes the destination seem to be really worth it. The ending was just too darn flat.

What's wrong with this movie?
1 April 2003
For starters, the director can't direct. It's simple as that. The cast are mostly non-actors, so I expect them to be bad. The director couldn't even manage to do that. The script was incredibly dumb and predictable. It's hard to believe that whoever made this actually took the credit for making it. This was really should've been an Alan Smithee film.

Not bad, for an Indonesian film
4 July 2002
This film is not bad, but it's not that good either. It's really doesn't have anything special to offer (except for the soundtrack). The reason it has been a major hit in Indonesia was because it was one of few (watchable) Indonesian film that had come out in years.

Patlabor: The TV Series (1989–1990)
One of the best TV series ever!
1 July 2001
Patlabor is an anime series that tells the stories of the Special Vehicles Unit 2, a police unit which equipped with labor(robot) to perform various duties. What set this series apart from others of its kind is this series focuses on the people not the robot. The Special Vehicles Unit 2 is made up of probably the most interesting mixd of people in the police force. The action sequences come quite few and far between (you won't find it in every episode), but it really delivers. For a TV series, the animation is one of the best looking and the most consistent I've ever seen.

One of few good American animated series
1 July 2001
Being a fan of anime, I always have low expectations for American cartoon series. Most American cartoon lacks good story, character development, and animation, since they were mostly made for kids. I had the same low expectation when I first watch this series, but after a few viewings, I realized there was a really good story in the series. The animation could be a lot better but I was too absorbed into the story to notice.

Some other American cartoon series that I liked are Gargoyles, Spiderman, Transformers, etc.
