Lovely cinematography - horrible sound editing
15 March 2021
Lovely to look at, and interesting history. Unfortunately, I spent the entire time with the remote in my hand, finger on the volume button to modulate the sound. Surprised at how horrible the sound editing is on this series, and that this annoying up and down of the dialogue's volume got through production.

The Duke of Windsor - a deeply selfish, vulgar and self-pitying person
6 August 2020
A wonderful episode, and having spent many hours researching Edward, Duke of Windsor years ago, I feel The Crown was pretty generous in its depiction of him. The British certainly dodged a bullet when this despicable person removed himself from the throne. I hope this series will encourage people to seek out facts about his life, his behavior, his treatment of others, and quotes of some of the horrendous things he said.

Not for everyone, but hugely appreciated by some of us

I believe this is another one of those shows people either hate or love - and there is no problem with being on one side or the other - I love it! Just as people have different tastes in decorating, food, etc., there's no need to denigrate the quality of a work because it doesn't suit one's taste. I can't stand marshmallows, but I can understand why many people love them. I've always been a fan of black humor and deadpan, and the cast and writing combination seem to be a perfect fit. Being a huge cynic, and getting worse, I appreciate the overall feeling of bleakness presented. Finding the ironic, absurd or cruel humor in everyday situations helps keep me from going over the deep end! It's a comfort to me that every once in a while I find a show that reveals there are others who feel the way I do. Here's hoping it doesn't get canceled any time soon, due to what may be a limited audience.

Welcome comic relief

Warning: Spoilers
I have to say this season was starting to get me down, and I was so happy to finally get an episode with a lot of humor in it (at least during the first half). So far this season, Nate just seemed dead inside, a shadow of his former self, and I've been questioning why David was putting up with so much negativity coming from Keith. And it has been disappointing seeing the narrow-mindedness of Rico, a character I had found endearing, even with his aversion to homosexuality. I was surprised at his lack of compassion with the family of the office shooter and his inability to comfort a grieving wife. His personality just seemed warmer than that. The paint ball storyline was fabulous, finally seeing David & Keith have some childlike fun, as was Ruth & Arthur's early scenes and the cheese-eating "Children of the Corn." Even as Ruth & Arthur's scenes became less humorous, I did like the sweet reverse Harold & Maude-ness of their relationship.

Disappointed

Warning: Spoilers
I was hopeful of this movie, as I love many (not all) Coen brothers films. However, the implausibility of several scenes (Chigurh being able to bring his cuffed hands around to the front of his body - try it yourself - Chigurh just picking up the transponder signal initially by chance, Chigurh hauling around a big air tank, and so many others already pointed out by other reviewers), in addition to how the movie just fell apart at the end, earns a thumbs down here. And really, how does Woody find Moss in 3 hours? I can buy a character being evil and pointlessly doing evil things. I can even buy a character doing stupid things (going back to give the practically-dead drug dealer a drink of water before he dies, running back into the hotel where the madman is to see if the hotel clerk is OK, and on and on and on). But there are too many improbabilities that the viewer is asked to ignore.
