Scream (2022)
5 out of ten for a glass half full
I was enjoying the first half and then I was just disappointed. Especially with the wasteful use of Sidney and Gale (and Dewey). I am always so happy to see them back I hold no resentment for them wanting to be part of the story again it's not really Scream without them but if you're gonna bring them in indulge us with more screen time and better dialogue. Bit of a cheesefest there.some great new cast choices like Jenna Ortega and Jack Quaid mixed with lots of forgettable performances. The choices for the requel to be justified felt so forced.
Really a half portion of what could be a bombastic return.
Ultimate Survival: Everest (2004)
What? No one reviewed this?
This documentary was very inspiring. Obviously, shot quite a while ago so the format is a bit old school. However, the content itself is exciting, with raw humanity which is to be expected when people try to conquer the highest peak of all continents. I have watched Everest, prior to this doc, about the 1996 disaster which is often referenced in this so I would recommend seeing that before it too because it really helps understand the danger of overcrowding on the mountain. At any point it did not feel too slow, felt like I learned a lot along the way. Very enjoyable doc.
2012 (2009)
Didn't hate it as much as I was told but it still was pretty bad
Who doesn't like a bit of doomsday goodness? With that being said, it's not very fun if you don't care about the characters. There were some major actors like Cusack completely wasted as tropes of disaster film, the above mentioned playing a failed writer&father who reunites the family in the light of the survival of the end of days. The list of these cliches goes on and on. Maybe it was an intention to just throw lots of money at the production so people can enjoy some disaster without caring about the human element. And the movie should be able to make me care. It should make people ponder how they'd behave and what sacrifices they could make. This movie doesn't do it for me which is sad considering I could watch Independence Day over and over. It's one of those films where you enjoy bits but not the whole piece.
47 Meters Down: Uncaged (2019)
Subpar acting in a mediocre shark movie
I did not have my hopes up going in so I was not disappointed in a sense.. yes, there are sharks which makes me always happy.
The plot pretty straight forward, actually a fun pretty fresh idea as far as shark film goes. Bunch of girls ditch school boat trip to go diving into a submerged ancient temple.
My frustration started with the lack of characters' likability. My general rule is If I don't like the characters, I'll be most likely rooting for the sharks. Which I did.
The effects, namely the sharks were not super astounding in some shots they looked as fake as an effect can get. However, there was a tense scene with a red light flashing which was actually very forgiving in terms of the effects and I enjoyed it very much.
I was excited about the cave idea but it only paid off in second half of the movie. With cave films I expect to get tensed up like watching the Descent. Which did not happen until much later in the movie and only very briefly. I did enjoy the final scene as cheesy as it was but I did want the mean girl to fall of the boat because from the beginning I was made feel that she had a purpose in the story- which she hadn't really.
Overall, it's an alright shark film but not very scary and as many pointed out before somehow the girls diving can hear each other under with no talkie earpieces and their ears actually in water not under the diving mask.
