A Hilarious escape for both Ginger and the viewer !
28 June 2001
The film is just a great escape for the viewer. I love watching Ginger act the part of a spoiled rich movie star-considering she seemed to be very down to earth in her every day life. The costume was so un-movie star like but Ginger shows that she is just more than a pretty face by pulling off that stunt ! She has just a divine comedic touch and this early film of hers illustrates that.

Brent is so-so...he wasn't bad he wasn't fantastic either.

Ginger's co-star and supposed love interest in the film is funny and brings some more hijinks to her vacation.

There is a scene where he is to be involved in an altercation with Brent's character--it's priceless.

I have three fave moments in this film. The first is when Ginger wakes up in the cottage the morning after she gets there ... she sees a bird and decides to take a swim . Something about that scene is so relaxing and carefree.

The second is when she is doing her solo dance scene towards the end of the film. You finally get to see this woman get the limelight doing her own routine instead of sharing it with Astaire ( who was wonderful by the way ).

I can't leave out the third scene which has her dancing to a song on the radio in the cottage living room.

This is a really nice early Ginger movie which all Ginger fans should watch. It is quite a treat.

Thanks Ginger xoxo

Phantom Lady (1944)
Great to watch on a rainy foggy Friday nite

Warning: Spoilers
I had never seen a film with Ella Raines before and I was pleased by her performance. It wasn't oscar worthy but let's face it this wasn't that kind of film.

I think I expected more from this film when I picked it up at the video store but despite that I don't feel I was let down. Not at all! The movie rated about a 7.5 in my book. Initially when I picked it up I thought more along the lines of a 9 . But don't get me wrong it was a very good 7.5 . The 7 is all the story and the acting and that .5 is for style points. In noir films you must have style and this one doesn't disapoint. The rain slicked city streets, the shadows - its a cliche people think of when they talk old noir movies but it works...

(POSSIBLE SPOILER AHEAD !)

Best parts of the film : When Raines goes to the club and eye's the drummer. She just turns into a totally different character and you wonder what she has up her sleeve.

Also ( perhaps the very best part ) when Raines is locked in the apartment of the killer and finally puts it all together. In a word freaky. You just want her to get the heck out of there. I have to admit there was some hokey running moments here but overall I felt like I was basically trapped in there with her !

Problems with the film : Her boss could have been a tad more attentive to her after everything she had been through - my lord cut the girl a break will ya?

And secondly I wish there had been more suspense in finding out who the killer was in the film. Part of the fun of watching a film where the killer is not clearly identified is that when they finally are you are just as shocked and scared as the person who made the discovery.

My recommendation : After a hard tedious day at work, get home take a hot bath unhook the phone, lock the door, make sure its dark outside and inside (RAIN AND FOG OUTSIDE A PLUS) pop in the video, have the remote become your friend, and lose yourself in the world of this thriller.
