The Great Indian Family (2023)
Bhajan kumar is Bahadur and kushal
This is a great dramedy Quite surprised by the overall panning by the unwashed masses ( aka Aam janta ).
The dialogues are great and delivered with great gusto by all the characters. Speaking Hindi seems to be getting to be a lost art in all the movies (Hindi/Telugu) so hats off to the writer for not writing it in Hinglish.
The plot is quite a doozie : this Hindu priest's son may actually born to a Muslim family and with the full connivance of the family head is conducting Hindu weddings. The horror! Shame! Shame!
Although the nominal villain in the movie is the evil Misraji and his son; the writer is really putting all the good people of this great nation on trial. Are you with us ? Or are you with the dividers and haters amongst us (nay within us).
Social Mandiya (2021)
Low key Charmer
This is a very well made, clever comedy. The cast contains no big names. And the location is a middle of nowhere in Rajasthan. The story is not too complicated: 3 friends seeking fame, fortune and love. Their path is the modern day method: social media. Yet there is plenty to chuckle with the well written script and the comic situations that these 3 friends find themselves in.
There are other comedic features: the "chotu" chai wala who wants to go to school, the publisher who expects to be paid for publishing, Chaman's father who wants to see Chaman pass a test etc.
However fear not: alls well that well. Our courageous comics get their fame and fortune and their love too.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Disappointing
This movie was a letdown. The graphics may do it for some people, but the plot was non-existent. Most of the time it felt like a direct copy of other movies:
lion king (the holding up of the baby to the sun//star and then again leaving the offspring off in a "forbidden zone")
Black Panther: pretty much the whole movie feels like black panther 2 continuance.
Titanic: the end scenes
Terminator: just the random, wanton violence and destruction.
3 hrs is too long for this movie. There should be congressional approval needed for movies longer than 3 hrs.
I am reluctant to criticize James Cameron creations, but this certainly was a huge disappointment.
Shyam Singha Roy (2021)
Irony: movie about copyright copies "Om Shanti Om"
Does anyone in the film industry understand the difference between criminal and civil law? No, Mr Sankrityan, you cannot just be put in jail because some company thinks you infringed on a copyright. Only a duly appointed prosecutor can do that.
Speaking of copyright, is there any chance that this violates "Om Shanti Om"'s copyright?
If the convo is in Bengali, some subtitles in English/Telugu couldn't hurt.
The Big Bull (2021)
Gordon Gekko meet Abhishek Bachchan
This is a brilliantly done movie. Hats off to the director and the cast foe a engrossing movie that was quite insightful into the actions of the original Big Bull.
One little glitch: when a lawyer speaks to his client (mirchandani meeting Abhishek's character, in real life he would not have the brother present! His brother can easily give all the details of those conversations)
This is on par with "Wall Street" and Abhishek Bachchan deserves a best actor award, similar to Michael Douglas.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Gravity without the gravitas
A "Gravity" rehash. That was a mindless movie. So is this. Clooney should stick to earth based movies. Flying is fine ("Up in the Air") don't leave earth please
