WWE Backlash (2007)
The Boss Shocks the World in Atlanta
After a slightly disappointing Wrestlemania, the WWE needed to deliver with Backlash. It is fair to say that they did, with this being the first tri-branded Backlash in history. This event had the excitement, the shocks, and most disappointingly, the predictability (I'm looking at the main event...). Anyway, here are the results from this years Backlash:
Match 1:World Tag Team Championship Match: The Hardyz vs. Cade and Murdoch. Not a bad opener here, with Matt and Jeff defending tag titles for the first time in six years. Anyway, Cade and Murdoch were in control for around 90% of the match, with Matt and Jeff hitting the occasional high flying moves. The match ended with Jeff hitting the swanton bomb on Murdoch, with Matt making the decisive cover to retain. Winners and still champs: The Hardyz.
Match 2:Women's Championship Match: Melina vs. Mickie James. Again, much like the first match, this wasn't bad. I was pleasantly surprised at the start of this one, with both Mickie and Melina performing ground holds and counters. Were we going to have a proper wrestling match from these two? No. However, the match didn't go down hill because of this. This one ended with Melina hitting the reverse ddt on Mickie for the win. Winner and still champ: Melina.
Match 3:United States Championship Match: Chris Benoit vs. MVP. A rematch of their classic battle at Wrestlemania. This was a brilliant match, with MVP keeping up with the veteran Benoit. I like MVP and I believe that from what I've seen from the two matches between himself and Benoit, that he has a very bright future. However, much like at Wrestlemania, MVP lost out on championship gold. Benoit was looking for the crossface, with MVP blocking it. Benoit then rolled the rookie into an inside cradle for the win. Great stuff. Winner and still champ: Benoit.
Match 4:3 on 1 Handicap Match for the ECW World Championship: Bobby Lashley vs. Umaga, Mr. McMahon and Shane McMahon. I am not a big fan of Lashley, I think there are better performers in the new shambolic ECW. What Vince has done to the ECW name in itself is a disgrace. Anyway Lashley dominated Shane-O-Mac and the Samoan bulldozer for a good deal of the match, with the boss cowering in the corner, only tagging in when a pin on Lashley was possible. The big man from Colorado had the match won when he hit the dominator on Shane, however Vince broke up the pin. Behind the referees back, Shane hit Lashley in the face with the title belt. Umaga then went to the top rope, and hit two huge splashes on the champ. The boss then tagged in, and shockingly, got the win. Watching Vince celebrate with the title around his waist made me sick to the stomach. Talk about insulting the legend that was ECW. A shocking, but horrible ending to this one. Winner and new ECW champ: Mr. McMahon.
Match 5:Last Man Standing Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: The Undertaker vs. Batista. I had a feeling that this one would be brutal, and I wasn't disappointed. Taker and Dave beat the hell out of each other, but neither man could be kept down for the 10 count. Taker busted Dave open with a sick steel steps shot to the face, and then laid his broken and bloody body on the SmackDown announce table. Taker stood on the barricade and hit a big legdrop onto Dave, through the table. However, the challenger did not stay down. Dave got back into it, with a sick chair shot and three spine busters. But Taker kept getting right back up. They both fought each other up to the stage, where Taker looked for a Tombstone on Dave. Dave had other ideas, and countered the Tombstone. He then speared the Deadman, and himself, off the stage. Neither man could get up for the 10 count, so this one (like the Royal Rumble LMS match in 04) ended in a draw. Very good match. Winner: Draw. Taker retains.
Match 6:Fatal Fourway Match for the WWE Championship: John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton vs. Edge. This match may have been exciting for some, but for me, I always knew who the winner would be. Unfortunately, I was right. Cena was never going to lose this match, but how much bloody longer can the boss let him keep the belt? He has held the damn thing since September, at Unforgiven. Cena was once again booed by everyone, except from the ladies and the little kids. The ending to the match was quite exciting, however unfortunately for everyone, Cena won in very lucky circumstances. Edge hit Orton with a spear, Cena hit Edge with an FU, then HBK hit Cena with Sweet Chin Music. Cena landed on Orton, and the ref made the count. I was furious to say the least. Winner and still champ John Cena.
This was a very good ppv offering by the WWE, with some brilliant matches. Unfortunately though, the champ is still here, and Mr. McMahon has once again pis*ed over the ECW legacy. Bring on Judgment Day, when these wrongs may very well be righted!
Summerslam (2006)
Party Time for the Champs
I always look forward to this event. Summerslam usually delivers memorable matches and moments. However, the nineteenth annual Summerslam was a bit of a disappointment. Even though there were plenty of star names on the card, this event did not live up to the expectations. Well here are the results from "The Biggest Party of the Summer":
Match 1:Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero. This match could have been a lot better than it was. It was still pretty decent though. Mysterio wasn't that popular to the Boston crowd, which was quite a surprise to me. The match ended when Vickie Guerrero tried to stop the match, only to inadvertently knock Rey off the top turnbuckle. Chavo capitalised and hit the frog splash for the win. Good match, could have been better. Winner: Chavo Guerrero
Match 2:ECW Title Match: Big Show vs. Sabu. I was looking forward to this match as it was Extreme Rules. However, what we got was Big Show dominating Sabu from the first bell. Not only that, but there were too many blown spots for me, mainly by Sabu. The worst being when Sabu accidentally threw a chair out the ring when he was going to use it on the champ, which the crowd didn't like. The match concluded when Big Show chokeslammed Sabu through a table. Another match that could have been better. Winner and still champ: Big Show
Match 3:Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Orton. Hogan is back again. Last year it was Shawn Michaels, this year Randy Orton. This match was poor as it was very slow, and Hogan somehow made Orton look average. After milking his entrance, Hogan was ready for this. However, the match just dragged on for what felt like an eternity. It should have ended when Orton hit the injured legend with the RKO. The referee counted the 1 2 3, and raised Orton's arm. Then the ref decided to reverse his decision when he saw Hogan's foot was on the bottom rope. This then led to the usual Hulking Up by Hogan, which then ended with the leg drop on Orton for the win. Hogan then milked his celebration just like his entrance. One word for you Terry after this horrible match, RETIRE. Winner: Hogan
Match 4:I Quit Match: Mick Foley vs. Ric Flair. Wow. This has to be the most violent, gory match the WWE has ever put on. Although it was relatively short, Foley and Flair produced a match that will forever stay with me. Within a couple of minutes of the bell sounding, Flair had been split open by a barbed wire board that Foley threw at his head. Foley then introduced all his trademark weapons, including Barbie and thousands of thumb tacks. Flair was a bloody and battered mess, but soon fought back against the hardcore legend, hitting him with a couple of low blows, and then knocking him off the ring apron. Foley smashed his head on a garbage can when he fell from the apron. The hardcore legend was done, referees, trainers and Melina tried to quit on Foley's behalf, but Flair was having none of it. He dragged Foley's broken body back into the ring, and tore away at his face with barbie, busting Foley wide open. Melina literally threw the towel in for her friend, only for Flair to threaten to hit her with barbie. This caused Foley to utter those two fatal words I Quit. Unbelievable, an instant classic by the two future hall of famers. Winner: Flair
Match 5:World Heavyweight Championship Match: King Booker vs. Batista. In my opinion, this has to be the worst championship match I have ever seen. Dave was having one of those nights were nothing went for him. The match ended with Dave hoisting the King up for the Batista Bomb, only for Queen Sharmell to jump on his back and get the King disqualified. Dave threw a hissy fit, and botched the Batista Bomb on the King, which rounded off a terrible night for him. Winner by disqualification: Batista
Match 6:DX vs. The McMahons. Very good match, although there were way too many interferences to make it a classic encounter. Before the match started, William Regal, Finlay and Mr. Kennedy were sent to the ring. Then before you knew it, out came Big Show, who made serious impact, as he took out the Game by chokeslamming him through the ECW announce table. Michaels broken body was thrown back in the ring, and the match officially started. It was basically a handicap match from there, as Vince and Shane imitated The Hart Foundation and LOD, while kicking HBK's arse. The tide turned when the Game finally got back into the ring, which brought the crowd right back up. Great finish to this one,as Shane was about to hit a coast to coast on the Game, only for Michaels to hit him with Sweet Chin Music halfway. Vince was then pinned when he was hit with the pedigree. DX then had a dig at Hogan in their celebrations, which was quite funny. Winners: DX
Match 7:WWE Title Match: Edge vs. John Cena. Brilliant match. If Edge was disqualified he would lose the title. Considering this was Cena's home town, he wasn't getting too much love from the crowd. Anyway Cena and Edge put on a very good main event. Lita tried to interfere on numerous occasions, and when the STF-U was locked in on the champ, Lita slipped some brass knucks on Edge's hand. When the ref's back was turned, Edge smashed the knucks into the back of Cena's head for the win. Winner and still champ: Edge
Well overall it was a great night for the champs, as they all retained their titles. However, this Summerslam is very average overall, with only three really good matches. It's still watchable, but don't go into it with high expectations, as at the end you will be left very disappointed.
WWE New Year's Revolution (2007)
Tag Title Bloodbath Steals the Show
Having ended on a high last year with Armageddon, the WWE have started 2007 with a bang. This years New Years Revolution was very enjoyable, with a couple of disappointing matches. The two big matches of the night didn't disappoint, which was a pleasant surprise. Well here are the results from this years NYR:
Match 1:Steel Cage Match for the Intercontinental Title: Jeff Hardy vs. Johnny Nitro. I was quite surprised that this match would open the show, but it did so with a bang. There were plenty of high flying moves in this one, as Hardy and Nitro both put their bodies on the line. Brilliant ending to this match as well. Melina held the cage door shut so Jeff couldn't escape, while Nitro was climbing down the outside of the cage. Jeff kicked the door open, causing Nitro to fall and crotch himself on the cage door. Hardy escaped to retain the gold. Winner and still champ: Jeff Hardy
Match 2:Tag Team Turmoil Match. This was a bonus match, in which the winners got a chance to compete for the tag titles. I wasn't particularly excited about this one and in fairness was a pretty average match. We started with The World's Greatest Tag Team and The Highlanders. The Highlanders were eliminated first. The next team in certainly caused some strange looks. It was Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Super Crazy. Before you knew it Benjamin and Hass eliminated them as well. Next in was Cade and Murdoch. They made light work of TWGTT and the last team in was Cryme Time. They won by pinning Cade for the 1 2 3. Average, nothing more. Winners: Cryme Time
Match 3:Ric Flair vs. Kenny Dykstra. Having beaten Flair twice on RAW, Kenny came face to face with the Nature Boy again. This match was quite disappointing in my opinion. Back and forth action throughout this one, although the ending was quite crappy. Flair had Kenny in the corner, only for the youngster to hit Flair with a low blow. He then got Flair in an inside cradle for his third win against him. Winner: Kenny Dykstra
Match 4:Women's Title Match: Mickie James vs. Victoria. A decent match between these two, although it was too short in my opinion. Again, it was back and forth action, but the tide turned when Melina interfered. Before the match, Victoria promised Melina that if she helped her win the title, then she would get the first title shot. However, Maria and Candice came down to the ring and stopped Melina before she could do any damage. Mickie won when she hit the psycho with her DDT finisher. Winner and still champ: Mickie James
Match 5:Tag Team Title Match: Rated RKO vs. DX. Well if I'm being honest with you, I wasn't sure what to expect from this match. Triple H made a guarantee on RAW that he and HBK were going to break bones and rip flesh. I didn't for a minute think that this was going to happen, but oh how wrong I was. This has to be the most violent tag team match I have ever seen. It started chaotically, with DX beating the hell out of Orton and Edge. When the action finally got in the ring, it wasn't long before the blood started to pour. HBK was speared to the outside by Edge and before you knew it, Orton nailed Shawn with one of the tag title belts, busting him wide open. The Game was finally tagged in by a bloody HBK, only to badly injure himself. He hit Orton with a Double A spine buster, only to tear his quadriceps muscle. It wasn't long before Michaels completely lost it. He knocked the referee out and then delivered two vile chair shots to the champs. Both Edge and Orton began to bleed like "Stut Pigs" as JR would say. The Game was somehow able to carry on, and Pedigree Edge on JR and King's announce table. HBK then hit an unbelievable elbow drop on Orton, through the Spanish announce table (as always). The best tag team match in the last few years by a mile. Winners: No Contest
Match 6:Carlito vs. Chris Masters. This was a match that I was really looking forward to see. However, it turned out to be the worst match of the night. It only went on for about five or six minutes, which surprised the hell out of me. Highlight of this one was Carlito hitting Masters with a double springboard moonsault. Masters stole the match when he rolled up Carltio and grabbed the tights. The Masterpiece then locked Carlito in the Masterlock after the match. Hugely disappointing. Winner: Chris Masters
Match 7:WWE Title Match: John Cena vs. Umaga. A very entertaining main event. This is probably the most one sided WWE Title match I have ever seen. The monster from Samoa dominated the champ throughout the match. I was praying that we were going to have a new champ, but what do I know, as Cena stole the win. Umaga was about to hit Cena with the Samoan Bulldozer, only for Cena to counter, and for the second NYR main event in a row, roll up his opponent to retain. Winner and still champ: John Cena
Well this was a very good effort by RAW, with two or three brilliant matches on offer. Next up is the Royal Rumble, which always excites me. Only three or four weeks to go. Can't Wait!!
WrestleMania XX (2004)
Slightly Disappointed
The amount of hype that Wrestlemania XX got was unreal. However, I always had a feeling in my gut that the event would not live up to the huge hype surrounding it. Unfortunately, I was right. This was, in all honesty quite average. However, the amazing main event saved this event from the brink of obscurity. Anyway, here are the results from Madison Square Garden, Where it all began again:
Match 1:US Title Match: Big Show vs. John Cena. This was an OK match. Cena got dominated by the big man for a good majority of the match. Cena pulled out the win when he hit Show with two FU's. Winner and new champ: John Cena
Match 2:World Tag Team Title Match: Rob Van Dam and Booker T vs. La Resistance vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. Mark Jindrak and Garrison Cade. I hate tag team matches. This match was very bad in my opinion. RVD and the Book retained their titles. Winners and still champs: RVD and Book
Match 3:Chris Jericho vs. Christian. I didn't think that this match would do anything for me, however, this proved to be a great match. Great performances by Y2J and Christian. The match ended in shocking fashion, as Trish Stratus "accidentally" elbowed Y2J, costing him the match. Just to rub it in his face, Christian and Trish had some tonsil tennis action going on to prove that the two had joined forces. Winner: Christian
Match 4:2 on 3 Handicap Match: Rock 'n Sock Connection vs. Evolution. It was great to see the Rock and Mick Foley team up for, possibly, the last time. This was a very entertaining match. I am still a bit bummed with the ending though. I still believe that Rock and Foley should have won. Lets face it, this was probably The Rock's last appearance in the WWE, and yet Evolution won. Orton hit Foley with an RKO out of nowhere for the win. Winners: Evolution
Match 5:Playboy Evening Gown Match: Torrie Wilson and Sable vs. Stacy Keibler and Miss Jackie. COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME!!!! Don't get me wrong, it's great to see these beautiful women in nothing but their undies, however, this is Wrestlemania and this match did not deserve to be on the card. Well Torrie won the match for the Smackdown girls. Winners: Torrie and Sable
Match 6:Cruiserweight Title Open. This match could have been longer in my opinion. It was way too short. Anyway, it was very exciting while it lasted. Chavo Gurrero won to retain the title when Chavo senior helped him pick up the pin on Rey Mysterio. Winner and still champ: Chavo
Match 7:Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar:Special guest referee:Stone Cold Steve Austin. The biggest DUD in Wrestlemania history. For all the hype surrounding this match, this was a huge disappointment. The two men stared at each other for nigh on 7 or 8 minutes. I thought that the crowd would start a riot, as they vented their anger on them both. As both Bill and Brock were leaving the WWE, the writers wanted them to leave with the fans hating them. Anyway Bill won the match with the spear and the jackhammer, but the crowd was dead. Austin stunned Brock after the match, which woke the crowd. Bill came back in the ring to celebrate with Austin, so they both started to swig beer down their throats. Austin then looked at Bill, and hit him with a stunner as well. Winner: Goldberg
Match 8:WWE Tag Team Title Match: Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty vs. The APA vs. The Basham Brothers vs. The Worlds Greatest Tag Team. Very much like the tag match earlier. Poor and forgettable. Scotty and the big Kish won to retain the titles. Winners and still champs: Scotty and Kish
Match 9:Womens Title Match: Victoria vs. Molly Holly. If Molly loses, then she gets her head shaved. The match was again, extremely short. Victoria won by getting Molly in a backslide pin. Funny at the end watching Molly lose her hair. Winner and still champ: Victoria
Match 10:WWE Title Match: Eddie Gurrero vs. Kurt Angle. This was a rather disappointing match that didn't excite me that much. A real cheap ending for a WWE Title match as well, as Eddie slipped out of the ankle lock, by slipping out of his boot. Eddie rolled up the shocked challenger and held the ropes for the win. Winner and still champ: Eddie
Match 11:The Undertaker vs. Kane. Another big disappointment. This was no where near as good as the classic match they had at Wrestlemania XIV. Anyway, Taker's entrance was spine tingling. Perhaps the best entrance at a Wrestlemania ever. It seemed to last longer than the match itself. Taker won to stay undefeated at Mania, by Tombstoning Kane (he kicked out of two tombstones in the match at XIV). Winner: Taker
Match 12:Triple Threat Match for The World Heavyweight Championship: Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Benoit. This is perhaps the greatest triple threat match I have ever seen. The crowd was solidly behind Benoit for this one. Surprisingly, this match was a bloodbath, as Michaels and The Game bled gallons. I thought Benoit was taken out of the match when he was suplexed by HBK and the Game through one of the announce tables. However, Benoit returned, and won the match when he made the Game tap to the Crippler Cross Face. Unreal match, perhaps the best main event in Mania history. Nice touch at the end with Benoit and Eddie Guerrero hugging in the centre of the ring, with confetti filling MSG. Winner and new champ: Benoit
This event disappointed me, it no where near lived up to expectation. However, a couple of good matches in mid card, and the unforgettable main event, saved this Mania from being labelled a disaster. Very average, when it could have been so much better.
ECW December to Dismember (2006)
December to Dismember was EXTREME......LY Bad
I have to tell you, I was looking forward to this event for weeks, mainly because of the huge main event, The Extreme Elimination Chamber. Well I can tell you this, I was shocked. I was shocked at how poor this event was. It's definitely up there with the Great American Bash and Cyber Sunday as worst ppv of the year. Well here are the match results from DTD:
Match 1:The Hardy Boyz vs. MNM. This match was very impressive. In my opinion, this was the best match of the night. They were at it for nearly thirty minutes!!! I normally hate tag team matches, but I was enthralled with this one. The Hardyz won when Jeff delivered a swanton bomb to both Mercury and Nitro. Winners: The Hardy Boyz
Match 2:Matt Striker vs. Balls Mahoney. This match showed just what was wrong with this ppv. Only two matches were on the card until the day of the event. This match did not deserve to be on any card for any ppv. It was absolutely abysmal to say the least. Mahoney won, but no-one seemed to care. Winner: Balls Mahoney
Match 3:Elijah Burke and Sylvester Terkay vs. The FBI. Wow. This match was incredible. I couldn't believe how.....AWFUL THIS WAS. It was just an excuse for Burke and Terkay to beat the snot out of the FBI, who in my opinion deserve better than this. Winners: Burke and Terkay
Match 4:Tommy Dreamer vs. Daivari (with the Great Khali). I'm beginning to get bored telling you how bad these matches are, but this took the status for worst match of the night. In true WWE style, Dreamer lost by getting rolled up and having the tights pulled. Considering this is supposed to be Extreme wrestling, getting rolled up is a ridiculous way to end a match. Khali beat the hell out of Dreamer at the end, but I lost interest. Winner:Daivari
Match 5:Mike Knox and Kelly Kelly vs. Kevin Thorn and Ariel. Another horrible match, can you notice a pattern?? Knox left his girlfriend at the mercy of the wannabe vampires. Kelly Kelly can't wrestle to save her life. Fact. Sandman interrupted the beating, and knocked the crap out of Thorn with his Singapore cane. That woke the crowd from it's coma. Winners:Thorn and Ariel
Match 6:The Extreme Elimination Chamber. Sabu was originally supposed to be in this match. The fact that he was removed from this match and replaced by the mega star Bob Holly effectively killed it. Heyman made a big speech before the start of the match about ECW outliving Hogan and Flair. I think someone should slap some sense in to him after this catastrophic event. Anyway, RVD and Bob started the match. A dull five minutes. C.M Punk was then introduced with the weapon that was in his chamber, a steel chair. Before you knew it RVD was busted open above his left eye. Punk, the fan favourite was eliminated first by RVD to the five star frog splash. What the hell??? Bob soon followed after Test entered the match with a crowbar, and nailed Bob with the big boot. What happened next was another travesty. RVD was eliminated. Test placed the chair on RVD's head, went to the top of Big Show's chamber, and delivered a huge elbow drop on the chair. That just about killed the ECW faithful. Lashley was next in, he beat the hell out of Test by throwing him through two chambers, and hit him with a spear. Big Show was released last with a barbed wire baseball bat. The bat was not used at all. Show got busted open after clattering into the chain wall. He was then thrown through another chamber by the powerhouse. They got back in the ring for about two minutes, before Lashley won by spearing the big man. Lashley won, but the ECW fans were rightfully p****d off because of how this match panned out. Winner and new ECW champion: Bobby Lashley
Well thats about it. A word of warning though. If you are a fan of ECW and you have not seen this event, then I suggest to you not to go anywhere near it. DTD is absolutely terrible. This event has practically put one of the final nails in ECW's coffin. Unless something drastic is done, we can once again, reluctantly, say goodbye to Extreme Championship Wrestling.
WWE Cyber Sunday (2006)
Getting a computer virus is more exciting than this....
For a good few months, RAW had produced some really entertaining ppvs. Unfortunately, this is not one of them. Cyber Sunday is well....quite dull. Most of the matches are too short, and the main event had one of the worst endings I have ever seen. That said there were a couple of good matches, however it couldn't save this event from being one of the worst ppvs of the year (The Great American Bash taking that title). Anyway here are the results from this rather forgettable interactive ppv:
Match 1:Umaga vs. Kane, or Chris Benoit, or Sandman. Kane wins with 50% of the vote. Probably on par with their match at Unforgiven. A typical big man match, quite slow and hard hitting. I thought Kane might have been able to beat the Samoan bulldozer, however, he received two Samoan spikes and Umaga got the pin. Winner: Umaga
Match 2:Cryme Tyme vs. The Highlanders vs. Viscera and Charlie Hass vs. Cade and Murdoch. This was a Texas tornado tag match. It was pure chaos, which is probably why the fans voted for that stipulation. It was way too short though. Cryme Tyme won when the covered the Highlanders. Winners:Cryme Tyme
Match 3:Intercontinental Title Match:Jeff Hardy vs. Carlito, or Shelton Benjamin, or Johnny Nitro. Carlito won with 60% of the vote. This was quite entertaining. Plenty of action towards the end of this one. The only reason to watch this match is because of the exciting finish. The beginning and the middle of this match is really quite boring because Carlito keeps putting Hardy in the same bear hug submission hold. Hardy wins to retain with the swanton bomb. Winner and still champion:Jeff Hardy
Match 4:DX vs. Edge and Randy Orton. Special guest referee:Eric Bischoff, or Johnathon Coachman, or Vince McMahon. Bischoff won with 60% of the vote. Probably the best match of the night, but not a classic. Not being a fan of tag team matches, I was quite surprised that I enjoyed this. Bischoff had the same deliberate count for both teams, that soon changed after Edge accidentally speared him. Anyway a new referee came to the ring when the Game was covering Orton, after Orton received a huge Sweet Chin Music from Michaels, only to be pulled out of the ring by Bischoff. Bischoff then knocked the ref to the floor. Michaels chased Bischoff, only to be hit in the face with a chair by Edge. Orton hit a huge RKO on HHH on to the steel chair. Orton covered the Game for the win. Winners:Edge and Randy Orton
Match 5:Womens Title Match:Lita vs. Mickie James.Match stipulation:No Holds Barred, or Diva Lumberjacks, or Submission. Diva Lumberjacks won with around 45% of the vote. This match was just plain bad and boring. Maybe if the match were longer, it might have gotten better....but it didn't. Lita won when Victoria interfered, and hit Mickie with an impaler ddt. Winner and new champion:Lita
Match 6:World Tag Team Title Match:The Sprit Squad vs. Ric Flair and Rowdy Roddy Piper, or Seargeant Slaughter, or Dusty Rhodes. Piper won with 60% of the vote. Well.....this was a dull, dull, dull tag team match. Piper looks like he should have lost some weight before the match. He has got the biggest gut I have ever seen. Anyway Flair and Piper won the titles, which was a bit of a shock. Really crap match though. Winners and new champions:Flair and Piper
Match 7:Champion of Champions Match:Big Show vs. King Booker vs. John Cena. Title on the line:World Heavyweight Championship won by 60% of the vote. This match could have been so much better than it was. It was over hyped in my opinion. Show dominated both men, until he got knocked out when his head smashed into the steel steps. I am not a Cena fan, but I was still hoping he'd win for RAW. He didn't. After giving Queen Sharmel an FU, Cena locked in the crappy STF-U on the King. It looked like the King would tap, until the unthinkable happened. Keven Federline (a.k.a Mr Britney Spears), yes you heard me right, K FED screwed Cena when he hit him over the kidneys with the World Championship. Cena chased K FED out of the ring, only for the King to nail Cena with the title belt, and get the pin for the win. Worst ending to a match I have ever seen. Winner and the champion of champions:King Booker.
If you haven't seen Cyber Sunday then I suggest that you don't waste your time. This will be forgotten by this time next year. The matches were too short in some cases, in other cases, the matches were just really bad. The rubbish ending just capped this event off. They may have changed the name from Taboo Tuesday to Cyber Sunday, but that didn't help this event from becoming another forgetful ppv. Lets just hope they recover from this with a strong Survior Series.....hopefully.
WrestleMania 22 (2006)
Definitely one of the best Mania's ever!!
The last time I watched a WWE event was nearly two years ago. That event was Judgement Day 2004. I lost my patience with wrestling after that, and I never thought I could have got back into it. However, I told myself to give this Wrestlemania a chance. I tell you what, I'm glad I did, as this was one of the great Mania's. Its definitely up there with 14, X-Seven and XIX. Anyway, lets get on with the matches from this memorable night in Chicago when wrestling went BIGTIME:
Match 1:World Tag Team Championship Match: Kane and The Big Show vs. Carlito and Chris Masters. Not being a big fan of tag team matches, I wasn't expecting much from this one. However I was proved wrong. This was a great opener, with brilliant performances from all four men. Kane and Show won to retain the titles. Winners and still champions: Kane and Show
Match 2:Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Ric Flair vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Matt Hardy vs. Finlay vs. Lashley. WOW. This match was absolutely amazing. It kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. I've never seen a ladder used like Benjamin and RVD use it. Some insane moves in this match, culminating in RVD grabbing the case, and becoming the new Mr Money in the Bank. One question, why was the match so low on the card????? Winner: Rob Van Dam
Match 3:United States Championship Match: Chris Benoit vs. JBL. This was a very dogged match. Nothing pretty, but still very entertaining. Quite low for JBL to taunt the late great Eddie Guerrero as he did. He got a cheap victory by rolling Benoit up and holding on to the ropes. Winner and new champion: JBL
Match 4:Hardcore Match: Mick Foley vs. Edge. I thought nothing could beat the MITB match. Oh how wrong I was. This match was absolutely unreal. There was blood galore in this one, as an all manner of weapons were used, including barbed wire, barbed wire bats, thumb tacks, just to name a few. Even Mr Socko got a barbed wire makeover. Both men bled heavily. The match had the best ending, possibly any match has ever had. Mick got speared by Edge on the apron through a table that was on fire!!! Edge picked up the win in a instant Wrestlemania classic. Winner: Edge
Match 5:Handicap Match: Boogeyman vs. Booker T and Sharmell. Well I suppose nothing could follow that last match up, so we had this. This match wasn't bad by any means, but it was on par as the worst match of the night compared with everything else.Boogeyman picked up the win by pinning the Book. Winner: Boogeyman
Match 6:Women's Championship Match: Trish Stratus vs. Mickie James. Well now I've seen everything. A good tag team match at the start of the show, and now a good women's match. This was a brill match, mainly because of the Chicago crowd, who cheered Mickie instead of usual fan favourite Trish. She even got booed. Mickie won to become new champion. Winner and new champion: Mickie James
Match 7:Casket Match: Undertaker vs. Mark Henry. Another good match. The Undertaker can still put up a good match, even against the very large Mark Henry. At one point I thought Henry would steal it, but The Undertaker pulled off another Wrestlemaina win to make his record 14-0 by burying Henry. Winner: Undertaker
Match 8:No Holds Barred Match: Shawn Michaels vs. Mr McMahon. Another amazing match. This match was very violent, much like the Edge-Foley match before it. Glad to see HBK kick old Vince's arse. The chairman was left a bloody mess after Michaels was through with him. Shane tried to intervene and got handcuffed to the middle rope by HBK. The highlight of this one was Michaels pulling out the biggest ladder I have ever seen, setting Vice up on a table, putting a trash can over the upper half of Vince's body, and hitting him with a huge elbow drop. HBK then finished it with a vile Sweet Chin Music. There were even some crotch chops DX style from HBK in this one, ultimately leading to the DX reunion later in the year. Winner: Shawn Michaels
Match 9:Triple Threat Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Randy Orton. This match was something else. Back and forth throughout. I was cheering on Angle all the way. Still annoyed that he didn't win. Mysterio shocked the world when he pinned Orton for the win. Winner and new champion: Rey Mysterio
Match 10:Playboy Pillow Fight: Torrie Wilson vs. Candice Michelle. Worst match of the night along with the Boogeyman match. This was pretty bad, even though we had two gorgeous women rolling around in their underwear. Winner: Torrie Wilson
Match 11:WWE Title Match: John Cena vs. Triple H. A great main event, although it will probably be remembered for the very hostile crowd. Cena got the biggest boos I have possibly ever heard for a superstar who isn't playing heel. I personally hate Cena and wished he lost this match. Unfortunately, he didn't. He made the Game submit with his dumb submission move the STF-U. Winner and still champion: John Cena
Well, I'm glad I took a chance and saw this Wrestlemania, its up there with the best Mania's ever. Have I caught the wrestling bug after seeing this.....Hell Yeahh!!!!!!!!!
WWE Bad Blood (2003)
Bad Blood is just plain......bad
Well, what can you say about this car crash of a paper view. You would have thought the WWE would have wanted to redeem themselves after the unbelievably bad Judgement Day. However, Bad Blood is up there with JD for the contender of the worst ppv of 2003. Anyway, on with the matches:
Match 1:The Dudley Boys vs. Rodney Mack and Christopher Nowinski. A pretty bog standard opener. Not very exciting, and extremely forgettable. Mack and Nowinski cheat for the win. Winners: Mack and Nowinski
Match 2:Scott Steiner vs. Test. The winner gets Stacy Keibler as their manager. I was not expecting an amazing match, and I was not wrong. The best part about this one was Steiner trying to jump off the apron on to Test, but ending up slipping, and making a right prat of himself. Steiner still managed to pull off the victory. Winner: Scott Steiner
Match 3:Intercontinental Title Match:Christian vs. Booker T. Compared to the first two matches this was quite entertaining. The event was held in Booker's home state, and yet he didn't win. It's not the fact that he didn't win that annoys me, its that he lost in the most stupid ending to a match ever. Christian tried to get himself counted out, but the ref went on the mike and said he would lose his title if he got counted out. So Christian ran back to the ring and nailed Booker with the title belt to get himself dq'ued. Winner and still IC Champion: Christian
Match 4:Tag Team Title Match: Kane and RVD VS. La Resistance. Tag matches, in my opinion are absolute tripe. This match is another example of bad tag team matches. Anyway, RVD makes a mistake and takes out Kane. This leads to the French guys to pick up the win and become new tag champions. Who cares? I certainly don't. Winner and new champs: La Resistance
Match 5:Goldberg vs. Chris Jericho. This was the second best match of the night. These two men genuinely don't like each other back from the old WCW days. Anyway, the highlights of this one were Goldberg missing a spear on the outside, and going straight through the barricade. Bill recovered though and hit Chris with the spear and the jackhammer. Funny at the end when Bill argues with an idiot in a Tigger costume. Winner: Goldberg
Match 6:Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair. On paper this looked like it would be a great match. Great this wasn't, but its still the best match of the night. Its biggest fault was the length. It was too short in my opinion. Highlights include Michaels hitting a huge splash on Ric from the top rope through a table on the outside. Randy Orton came out from the crowd and got a sick Sweet Chin Music for his trouble. Another cheap ending, as Orton nails Michaels with a chair, and rolls the nature boy on top of him for the win. Winner: Ric Flair
Match 7:Hell in a Cell for the World Heavyweight Championship:Triple H vs. Kevin Nash. Special guest ref Mick Foley. Well were do I start. This match was the epitome of poor. Most Hell in a Cell matches are memorable for a good reason. This however, will probably not be remembered, although if it were, it would be remembered as the worst cell in history. This was even worst than Undertaker Boss Man cell at Wrestlemania XV. The best bumps in this match went to Mick. Thats right, the ref. Most Hell in a cell matches now don't finish on top of the cell. However all the other cells after this were very good. This match was brutal, but in all honesty, really boring as well. All three men were busted open by the end. I always knew the game would win this match, and what do you know he did. He hit Nash with the pedigree for the win. Winner, and still champion: Triple H.
By the way there was a redneck triathlon between Stone Cold and Eric Bishoff. It was absolutely awful. Austin won, but this entire contest was time wasting. It took up too much of the show. Its not because of this though, that this event is so poor. The matches were just plain bad. Only two matches were pretty good, but thats it. Bad Blood was really bad, and its not worth watching again I can tell you. Stay away at all costs if you are tempted to see this. You have been warned....
WWE Unforgiven (2006)
RAW Hits Top Form
Unforgiven gets two thumbs up from me. RAW have produced a very entertaining pay per view. From the brutality in the vicious Hell in a Cell match, to the brilliance of the TLC match, RAW have hit top form. Here are the results from Unforgiven:
Match 1:Intercontinental Title Match, Johhny Nitro vs. Jeff Hardy. A very entertaining opener. Only ruined by Melina interfering again. Otherwise, a good match. Winner and still champion Nitro
Match 2:Kane vs. Umaga. This match was a lot better than I envisioned it. Both men beat the hell out of each other. Disappointed that the match ended in a count out.
Match 3:Tag Team Title Match, The Spirit Squad vs. The Highlanders. Pretty disappointing. Probably the worst match of the night. A typical Spirit Squad match, you always knew the numbers game would win them the match. Winners and still champions The Spirit Squad
Match 4:Hell in a Cell Handicap Match, DX vs. The McMahons and The Big Show. This was an unbelievable match. First of all, a new Hell in a Cell was used for this match. It's bigger and badder than the old cell. The McMahon's were busted open after The Big Show suffered two double low blows by DX. But once Show recovered, he beat the crap out of HBK and The Game. Show busted HBK open. Soon after, HHH was busted open by Shane. The tables turned again when HBK was about to join Vince's "Kiss my Ass Club", and The Game made sure it didn't go down. Soon after this, Shane's neck might have been broken after a steel chair was opened and closed around his head. HBK then delivered a huge elbow drop on the chair. Shane started to spit up blood soon after. Vince had his head shoved into Shows crack, and I mean it was SHOVED right up Shows arse. This lead to Sweet Chin Music for Vince, and then to finish it, The Game broke his sledgehammer around the back of Vince's head for the win. Unbelievable!!! Winners, DX
Match 5:Womens Title Match, Lita vs. Trish Stratus. A good womens match for once. A fairytale ending for Trish seeing as this was her last match, in her home town. Nice touch as she won the title using Brett Hart's sharpshooter. Winner and new Womens Champion, Trish
Match 6:Randy Orton vs. Carlito. This was another very good match. Orton got a busted lip about halfway through. Orton won with a brilliant move. He caught Carlito in mid air and hit him with an RKO. Winner, Randy Orton
Match 7:TLC Match for WWE Title, John Cena vs. Edge. This was a great match. Both men pushed each other to the limit with this one. Lita tried to interfere, but accidentally got Edge put through two tables off the top of a twelve foot ladder. She got an FU for her trouble, and so did Edge. He got FU ed off the ladder through two tables stacked on top of each other in the ring. Cena then capitalised and won the title to stay on RAW. Winner and new WWE Champion John Cena.
Well congrats to RAW for a top notch paper view. Lets see how SmackDown do with No Mercy next month.
