Unconformity (2022)
2/10
Absolutely boring.
5 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It is difficult to find a movie without a single likable character in it. Even the geology student, who, as a character held promise initially, became a self centered waste ( screw the fence, let's go drink ) followed by a wishy washy whiny kid ( oh alas, alas, I don't know what to do ). And then there's the boyfriend who screws her over, and the professor who screws her over, and the farmer boy who is so so sad and stomps his feet when she says no, I'm not going to stay in this crappy little desert with you so we can climb rocks together and live happily ever after. Seriously. Some nice scenery, but the acting was crap, and the story was soap, and I van really embarrassed I watched the whole thing.

Amazing performances from the leads.
24 August 2022
Not always a fan of German drama, this was a wonderfully written story with the most charismatic lead assassin character since The Professional from years ago. Stunning performance from the lead, her compatriot, and her foils. This series was magical, with humor, with heart.

Romancing the stone?
22 August 2022
Absolutely not. Just a cheap ripoff. Radcliffe plays a solid villain, and there were some fun moments early in the film, but mostly this was a sad retelling of a fun film, lacking originality or imagination. You'd think these actors were politicians the way they sell themselves for money they certainly don't need, without thought given to art or creativity.

I don't usually find comedy amusing.
22 August 2022
But this series is absolutely a hoot. Short, compact episodes. Chemistry between characters. Subtle humor that actually had me slug out loud. I loved this series.

It's embarrassing.

It took me half an hour to turn this boring, Ill conceived mess off. The characters were unlikable, the plot was ridiculous, the actors went through the motions and collected their paychecks. This was awful.

I can't believe I watched the whole thing!
8 August 2022
But I did. And thus, an extra star it certainly didn't deserve. The absurdity of this plot makes most of the trash Netflix put out seem scholarly. And worst of all, it's absolutely set the scene for a sequel. Please! No sequel Netflix! Great actors in horrid roles is an abomination! This isn't a spoiler, but one might ask, how the hell did those two huge ships sail into that cave? So many questions. I don't care about the answers. But, if you are interested, stupid is the answer. Very, very stupid. Tho a tad fun occasionally.

Someone said this is a hidden gem.
6 August 2022
If so, it was very well hidden. This was a poorly acted, poorly conceived mess. Did I mention boring? I gave up after three episodes. A bunch of self-indulgent characters whining about religion, stumbling through life. There is comic relief. Like when someone flops on the floor, bleeding profusely from the mouth, eyes read, not breathing, four people around him just looking at this obviously dead person, and then after a cpl minutes he jerks back to life! And someone says, let's keep this a secret! This is not a spoiler because when a series is this rotten, it's beyond spoiling.

Boring nonsense.
29 July 2022
I love a good chick kick ass flick. This was awful. Someone took a terrible idea, wrote a terrible script, found some actors who could go through the motions, and convinced someone it'd make a lot of money for investors. This movie stunk. Chastain is a fine actor who should have known better than to get involved in crap like this. Perhaps next she'll join the Liv tour.

If you're looking for comic relief-
28 July 2022
Go elsewhere. The suspense is maintained throughout the eight episode first season. The acting is fine throughout, but particularly amazing by the female playing the rental car clerk. She absolutely aced her role. This series could have gone horribly wrong quite easily, but the director kept the pace steady, the editing was spot on, the good guys were at least somewhat flawed, and the bad guys were not just characatures. Darkness is a fitting title.

This could have been a hokie mess.
18 July 2022
But, given exceptional acting by even lesser characters, and fine direction, what could easily have been a disaster movie was fun, engaging, heartwarming, all those superlatives I never use. Certainly a tad implausible at times, I didn't care. It was good to binge watch a series that didn't leave me bored.

Whimsical historical fantasy.
10 July 2022
Reminiscent of the k-drama Crash Landing on You, in that it's a love story with charming and very competent actors. I'm sure I'm missing some relevant cultural context, but I find this series, through the first eight available episodes, thoroughly enjoyable, a needed escape. Accolades to the director who allows the actors to showcase both their individual charisma, and their chemistry with each other as they glide seemingly effortlessly through this light hearted escape.

We were looking for mindless, fun action.
6 July 2022
We got the mindless. Hadn't seen a bond movie in a long while. There was some action and a whole lot of boring yakking from characters with little charisma and less chemistry. The plot was ridiculous. The plot holes were enormous. And in the end, I just didn't care. But I did watch the whole thing, so it got one more star than it deserved.

So New York, I was told.
30 June 2022
So, so boring, not like New York. A ton of fine actors couldn't save this self-indulgent mess. Not a character I cared about. Not an iota of charisma/chemistry between any of them. Another example of a highly paid Netflix cast lumbering through a ponderous script.

Quiet, a wonderful series about relationships.
27 June 2022
Nothing explodes. No one gets shot. There are no superheroes or supervillains. But if you enjoy watching relationships between amazing characters with wonderful chemistry this is a truly fine series. The cast is terrific, from in laws to the most minor of characters. The direction and pacing is outstanding, and season two even ended in a most effective way. I've seen a lot of series. This ranks at the top of my list.

Now I know what Netflix did with my subscription money.
25 June 2022
It spent that whole pile of cash on the script for this absolute mess, wasting the talents of some pretty good actors. This was awful. It wasn't funny. There was no charisma between actors. The plot was stupid. And I was stupid for actually watching a whole half hour of this before giving up.

Predictable fluff.
23 June 2022
But the acting was pretty good, and regardless knowing where this was going, I found myself entertained. I thought the cinematography was quite well done, and I admit to being rather impressed by the work put into playing well a game. Overall, a positive experience.

Call My Agent was so entertaining.
11 June 2022
I had hoped this would equal the French series. But whoever cast this mess should be shot. There is absolutely no chemistry. The characters mostly seem to read their lines hoping to go home to their cats. The changes to the plot lines in each episode are a mystery, because they don't work, and whoever wrote the scripts, should have seen that. My disappointment has increased with each poorly conceived episode. My only hope is that the rumor the original French series will be extended is true.

Netflix, you've outdone yourself!
8 June 2022
I really thought you couldn't put outworse programming than you've managed this year. But you did manage. From the script to the acting to the very unspecial effects, this movie, with its absurd plot and ham handed acting, a term I use loosely, was a hot mess. Talk about disaster films....

Absolutely not for everyone.
29 May 2022
Some may wring their fingers over the violence and a plot line which occasionally is best served with a suspension of belief. But I thought the casting was great, the characters, warts and all, were interesting, and the plot had a mind of its own that worked for me. Even the ending worked.

Interesting concept.
29 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
But so poorly executed. I like the idea presented, and in capable hands, it could have been interesting. But male lead was wooden and generally acted stupidly. His wife through him out of the house, forever, because he wanted to leave, forever. A love child shows up in the middle of the flick who he supposedly knew nothing about. And then disappears, is never mentioned again. The known daughter has pretend lymphoma then the wannabe astronaut thinks he actually does have lymphoma because of a false positive blood test. And then they all live happily eve4 after because he decides not to go. OMG!

Apple has put out some fine drama of late.
14 May 2022
But this mess isn't a part of its excellence. Boring characters making faces at each other attempting to be relevant. A boring plot that found me nodding off at five in the afternoon. This was who cares at its least elegant. I will add a star for some nice scenery, but this thing was good actors going through the motions.

Dark drama is difficult.
11 May 2022
But when acted and directed with skill, it can be a fascinating genre. The characters are well written, the plot moves at a steady pace without gotcha moments. It's difficult to find anyone to clear for, but the villains ooze character. This was a fine little series in every respect.

If watching Sasquatch take a dump in a hallway is your thing, have at it. If you have a brain, even a primitive brain that doesn't really function well, you might consider other options.

Not a likable character in this garbage.
25 April 2022
Not even a rotten character you find interesting. This is a poorly conceived mess that was probably written during happy hour in a low life bar. No imagination. A germ of a plot line that wasn't fleshed out or embellished with any sense of purpose. This was awful.

Original. And produced I imagine for less than $20. Great lines delivered by a cast of unknowns. And one of the best endings in the history of the universe. Absolutely loved the last minute of this film.
