Antidote for Subversion - sends adrenaline gushing and tears at same time !
28 January 2023
Even today traces of subversion are visible in most aspects of our society due to systematic destruction of Indianness ! The sense of pride in who we are serves as a confidence booster for next generations to excel in their lives, but we were robbed of it for 2 centuries! The movie and its dialogues take us back to times where we were proud of who we were! That's the greatest gift that came from this movie! Sahyadri cha kada shwas rokuni khada!...(Sahayadri's Fortress waiting holding its breath) movie is full of such wonderful dialogues that leave your blood boiling as well as eyes wet at same time ....beautifully written songs with absolutely class music and Povadas! The detailing is mind boggling! Brilliant acting by everyone and superb narration by Upendra Limaye.

And yes, the movie did not get under the pressure of portraying grand Shivaji, the name itself carries is much weight that it's east to succumb under pressure. Mr. Tarde has kept its heart in right place without forgetting that the movie must entertain. His face exudes innocence and courage at the same time. He lived the part so well. Can't miss to see the pride in his face when he says "we are Shivaji Raje's people " to Bahadur Khan's family. Hambirrao's daughter Tararani is a revered figure in Kolhapur, pleasantly surprised to see his views resonate so well with modern times. A scene where Gashmeer portrays Sambhaji fighting like an explosive warrior, and Hambirrao looks with pride was the scene were it took me to a different world. Must say that Gashmeer did succeed in playing both characters with finesse...balance and wit of father & sheer firepower of son.

With limited resources what Shivaji Raje did is unbelievable, required a mountain of will power, and that's why India map is still on world map. To such warriors even Bahubali like movies could fall short. I always wondered why can't such greatness be portrayed with cinematic liberty to make it a surreal experience. I must say this movie went emotionally quite close to those days and those great people....must watch movie.... something that does justice to Greatness of Maratha Warriors ... Great gift to us Mr. Pravin Tarde, hats off!

Gripping..
9 November 2020
With no new movies releasing, movie buffs are having hard time to look out for fresh content....and here is a gem that comes along knocking on Amazon Prime. I started with looking out for a story that can keep you engaged. The production quality, camera shorts that are of international standards pulled my interest. This first was obvious in the opening credits where the scenes are shot with an aerial view. The director Kiran Reddy is knows his job very well. We see a deep influence from Hollywood but that works in favour of the movie as most of the movie markers are in the USA. The movie has its aha moments with twists and turns that can leave you stunned. The lead actor Bhargava Poludasu comes in as a surprise and his transformation to the central character is seamless. He definitely acted with restraint and someone to look out for in future. The other actor Rakesh Galebhe with his looks like Atif Aslam, confuses us for some time, works well for the movie. The movie stayed with me for a while. And somewhere the movie strikes a balance on morality, revenge saga, thriller. If you are searching for content, this movie is will not disappoint at all. Good work Gatham team!

Lovely take on Human Psyche!
30 August 2020
The presentation is signature Mysskin. Researched personalities, who are very much Of their own kind, a world that's dark and different but interesting, a story of individuality and a sense of purpose driven by past. The hero is a sign of ultra positive (never sorry of his limitations, like being blind) while the negative character is sign of Ultra pain. You can feel that both characters exist in you and their pain can be lived through the movie. Aditi Hydari shows up as a sign of purity that looks at both the positive and negative with empathy. Lovely take on human psyche!

All actors sync in characters smoothly. Udhayanidhi works out a perfect fit with his mild expressions as a protagonist and delivers a good performance. Good songs...Unna Nenachu, Illayaraja magic and Sid Sriram.. mind blowing ! Rajkumar Pitchumani (the one who was the friend in earlier Mysskin movie Pichassu) steals the show whenever he gets a chance. All artists have performed up to Mysskin standard, none the secondary.

In short a total Mysskin Effect! Watch it if you love thrillers! Pain, love, courage, compassion, sacrifice all woven beautifully... Can't wait to see what Mysskin is going for next....

Heart in right place!

Sensational is what attracts attention. But in the ordinary there is a lot that gets overlooked that can stir you up. The Director did make sure you are emotionally intrigued whenever you see a father standing by his daughter or when the daughter has no idea of how the religious lenses view her, or when the religious custodians always fail to understand the innocent pleasure of an artist. There is no talk of correction or feeling sorry of why things are like that or what is right or wrong, it's about love all the way! Things are left the way they are while the protagonist makes her brave choices and moves ahead with life. And yes, the true sense of the fact that your friend belongs to a different religion does not come to you till you are out of your college, till some custodian points it out for you harshly. Are we most Indians not like this ? Glad someone showed this side in the movies because for most of us, that side never matters beyond friendship.

The movie does have a lot of positivity in a subtle form without going overboard. And after a long time, I felt good hearing the sound of a Sewing machine, this is the one most of us grew up hearing. It says a lot about dignity of labor, of a man who knows his craft well, of people who are real, like all around us.

Mariyam (Aditi Subeidi) does a fine job with a natural performance! Way to go. Movie rests on the shoulders of Danish Hussain, who delivers an envied performance, mostly an underplay but not losing a nerve of reality. Most actors seemed to be from theatre which works well including Kaustubh Shukla, Shradha Kaul, Juhaiana Ahsan, Rakesh Chaturvedi and all others. Naseerji is the face of the movie and lights up the screen with his mere presence, whenever we see him.

Movie has its flaws, but worth ignoring below the positives. Hats off to Baba Azmi and Shabana Azmi to bring out such a story. The world definitely need something positive. The Director never went preachy and the story remains as the one of a passionate mind! The movie leaves behind a good taste, go for it! I could well imagine the viewpoint of a few real life examples who challenge the normal.
