Insidious (2010)
Want to get some thrill? You won't be disappointed for sure
Did not find anything disappointing in this movie. Plot is good, characters are well developed and they make sure to keep the thrill intact till the end. What more can we ask for? Definitely worth a watch.
Gisaengchung (2019)
Social satire which is worth watching
Superb plot. Rich and poor divide was and has always been there, but the way this film has exploited the theme to bring out how humans at various levels play out their part is undoubtedly praiseworthy. A must watch.
Dabbe (Dab6e) (2015)
Attempt to make it a horror movie fails completely
When you go on making a series, at some point of time your imagination might fail you and that has exactly happened with this movie. It just keeps on dragging with continuous concocted terror elements, which do not really scare, but only makes one fear for the rating of this film
Dabbe: Zehr-i Cin (2014)
Good plot, but too much of unwanted gore
Theme is indeed good and that saves this film to a large extent. Performances are also commendable. If you do not mind time which is extraordinarily stretched and if you are game for gore, go for it.
El practicante (2020)
Unconvincing plot
This Spanish thriller is sure to put you through psychological trauma, not because of its superb storyline or because of any extraordinary performances, but sheerly because of the title character Angel's utterly unconvincing obsession with cruelty and possessiveness. Angel, the paramedic seems to the devil's child and it's beyond comprehension that people around him, especially Vane, his girlfriend couldn't recognize his true character for so long that it's only after going through near hellish experience, she realizes that she needs to fight him! Does Angel change after he is completely immobilized? Physically yes, as it appears that now he does not have any control over his body. But then mentally he yet seems to be active even in the end and it's unthinkable as to why Vane still wishes to keep him company, though it's implied that she wants her revenge. Nothing really wrong in having revenge, but then when it comes to a sick character like Angel, keeping distance and not having proximity could have proved to be the best revenge.
Mata Batin (2017)
Not bad but passable
This Indonesian horror movie seems to have been highly inspired by American supernatural thriller The Sixth Sense by Shyamlan with a bit of twists and turns here and there. So, in place of Cole, a kind of gifted child who can see and also connect to the dead world, we have here a small girl Abel, who can see the dead, but is too scared to talk to them. Abel thus keeps her fears intact and remains psychologically affected till her elder sister Alia decides to help her out by approaching Mrs. Windu, a spiritual healer, who assists Alia in helping Alia's already half opened third eye become completely active so that Alia would be able to understand Abel's condition. So, now instead of only Abel facing the dead people, we have her elder sister who too begins her not so pleasant experiences with the dead. The difference between the two movies i. e. The Sixth Sense and The Third Eye is in terms of how the narrative progresses with the unusual gift of these gifted characters. Abel and Alia get to know that the house they have currently occupied was of the family which was brutally killed by the family's own gardener and now the entire family needs revenge. Both the girls get tormented by these spirits till Alia's body is possessed by these vengeful spirits and eventually succeed in killing the gardener responsible for their death. Should the movie end now? No, not yet. Though the gardener is killed, the vengeful family wishes to have a human body and though Windu with her spiritual power gets Alia back to her human form, Abel is taken to spirit world by the dead! When will our torment end along with that of the sisters'? It does, but not so soon. It appears that Alia's boyfriend is also a dead youth( remember Malcolm Crowe ( Bruce Willis) ?), who is a kind spirit. Alia, in order to save her sister and get her back to human world travels with her dead boyfriend to the "other world" and Hurrah! viewers should be relieved now because "All's well that ends well".
Overall the movie is not bad, but seems to have been handled not so deftly by the director.
