Village of the Damned (1995)
Aliens with classy fashion sense
A nice remake of the original with some unexplained elements that don't make sense in 1990's, mainly the chidren's wardrobe. While classy, this style of clothing made more sense in the 1960's than it does 30 years later. Were the children the ones who chose their clothing or was their parents? I assume Carpenter wanted the children to look more evil by looking like miniature versions of Mao Zedong or Kim Il Sung with their long grey overcoats mixed with some 19th century influences as well. Maybe their clothing is meant to symbolize these dictators? I feel if like children make themselves way easier to identify this way and highly contrasts with the rest of the contemporary characters which wasn't a problem in the original.
Tiny Toons Looniversity (2023)
Mixed feelings, just like the Animaniacs reboot
I don't know how to feel about this. I'm glad some of these cartoons are getting revivals but they just seem like huge stepdown from the originals. Some of the decisions they made like making Buster and Babs siblings don't make sense. The "no relation" joke is gone. Montana Max only appears in one episode and then disappears without a trace, and they lied about Elmyra being in this. She only appears in the intro song, but not in the actual episodes (no cameo or reference). Buster also twerks in one episode (more specifically the clone episode, ew). Is this really what this generation finds funny? At least the animation and songs are nice.
It (2017)
The clown is a joke.
Forget the clown, the real villains in this movie are the bullies and Beverly's father. Remove "It" from the title, call it "The gang" and this would probably be a decent teen drama with the kids friendship and bond being their strenght against the daily struggles they encounter. The movie simply doesn't explain much about the clown and whenever the story revolves around him, it gets boring. On other hand when they focused on the bullies and the father is when it got more interesting. It's the only reason why I give this movie a 3 out of 10. There is some potential if it wasn't trying to be a horror film, which is a remake of the same film from the 90's which also flopped.
Cult of Chucky (2017)
Mancini needs to step away from this franchise.
The Chucky saga hasn't been the same since he started directing it, someone needs to step in and take over. This entry had some promising fanservice with Alex Vincent and Christine Elise but was completely wasted. The movie also takes place in a mental hospital for the most part which doesn't work, Chucky gets very easy kills here since the patients including Fiona Dourif's character are unable to defend themselves either because they're too mentaly unstable or the latter who is in a wheelchair, you feel kinda bad for these people. The only character that was unlikeable was the shrink who was abusive. In the previous movies the majority of the characters that got killed were more than capable than defend themselves from the killer doll, here it's just depressing to watch. The idea that Chucky can possess multiple vessels is very confusing and a lazy idea as he claims he learned from the internet.
Overrall this is a bad sequel like the last 3. Watch Child's Play 1 and 2 and maybe even 3. Avoid anything that comes after.
Willy's Wonderland (2021)
Another horrible FNAF rip-off
Despite not being a huge fan of FNAF, the concept is pretty cool, but to make it a good movie takes dedication, a good script, a talented director and a decent budget. "Willy's Wonderland" has none. The opening sequence starts with Nicholas Cage who is 60, pretending to be on his late 30's driving a sports car and has an unhealthy obssesion with energy drinks. He has no lines during the entire movie, I guess he's supposed to play the silent protagonist in video games since obviously this movie is inspired from a video game, but it just doesn't work. His character has no backstory and gets boring since he doesn't get any character development as the movie goes on. He also seems to have some sort of superhuman strength as he is the only one who is capable of destroying any of the animatronics with little effort. The other characters in the movie are either there just to be killed or for some plot exposition. And some of them do REALLY stupid things! There is one moment in the movie where two teens have sex inside the "Willy's Wonderland" while being perfectly aware that killer animatronics are watching them and are about to kill them, one of the teens even say "let's give them a show!" Absolute cringe. As for the animatronics, it initally starts good with them being pretty creepy and staring at the actors when they're not looking, but once they start talking it goes downhill from there. Most of their dialogue consists of insulting the characters with crude language that is neither scary or funny. Having them not talk would have made them scarier. The special effects are cheap too. Some of the animatronics are clearly people in costumes, and it really ruins the movie's concept. Overall I don't recommend this film.
