Psycho (1960)
a supreme classic
"Psycho" is the kind of movie that you really have to make sure that you see if you're going to be the kind of people who want to talk about the history of Hollywood movies. Like some others, Mr. Hitchcock produced or directed quite a few famous films. The basic idea in this one is to tell the story of the strange things that happen after a woman checks in at a spooky old motel. In a way, many might claim that this movie by itself could show you that Mr. Hitchcock belongs having a reputation for doing the very highest quality work, but I'd especially recommend "The Birds" if you just can't resist a little more scary stuff. And try to get back to the car safely when you're all done!
Alien (1979)
a well-known sci-fi- film
The one thing I think I really, really need to say about ALIEN is that I sort of remember enjoying the book, and then sort of wondered what I honestly think of the movie.
Con Air (1997)
the kind of movie that can give you nightmares
Con Air was absolutely, positively the scariest thing I ever saw. You can threaten to destroy Tokyo or bury a hundred scientists in a facility for chemical emergencies, but there's just nothing like plain old criminals in a confined space.
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
a movie I remember for being *NEW*
When I went to see this movie, they still made blockbusters. Cinematography is a reason to make movies. I remember the dusty streets and the dangerous catacombs. Everybody reacted to the scene where Indy threatens his enemy and then draws a gun. Remember always that movies are made to be auctioned off at old libraries! - - - I noticed the editors' SPOILER warning. Being the type who likes archivist work, I'll leave it the way it is, instead of making changes that would erase my blunder. I'll mention that maybe nobody'll retain the give-away, and that it looks a little like a study in making a writing mistake, how the over-enthusiastic sensibilities show in what I wrote.
Pretty Woman (1990)
an absolute classic
I don't often go to the theater for the ones that are a love story, but this is a film that makes movie history.
Firestarter (1984)
a movie that belongs halfway noticed
I just absolutely had to write a quick review of this movie. It has the same thing that I like about Darkman - - a movie that honestly had some kind of crazy idea for a story. I hope some people try to take an interest in showing this to students who are learning about making movies.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
a movie I needed to include in my reviews
Snow White is the kind of movie they made us pay attention to when I took a film class at R. I. T. - - it's historically important.
Monsters, Inc. (2001)
a movie I wanted to make sure to recommend
This is another Disney movie I'll never forget. Group it together with The Incredibles and Toy Story, and compare it to the masterpieces that were Cinderella and Snow White.
The Incredibles (2004)
having seen this film as an insider
I worked at a theater owned by Disney during the first run of this film. I'll never forget how unbelievably silly it was to watch the movie three or four or five more times. Creative work always gets me started, if you know what I mean. - - - I wanted to add, after I took a look at my own review, that it's sort of strange to have to worry about how popular a movie really is. Working at the theater, people seemed to honestly enjoy their movie-going experience. I honestly loved the way all the joking around was put together in this movie. Really, really! Bad economic times and old library books make me wonder about what kind of impression my writing (of this review) makes at first, or after two or three months. Is there some strange part of Washington's General Accounting Office emptying whoopie cushions on the weekend or something? Maybe I just need to find where it says "There's no accounting for taste."
