Dil Chahta Hai (2001)
The actors- especially Aamir Khan; the screenplay- very comedic, but serious in nature; the cinematography- I wanted to visit Goa; and the music all made this movie a wonderful viewing experience.
My university held an Indian Film Festival this past spring. My friends and I decided to be adventurous and try a Bollywood film. I could to say my initially low expectations were the main reason i left very satisfied, but that wouldn't be giving this movie credit. For the first time in a few months, I left this movie theatre feeling I had been entertained. I now consider this movie one of my favorite foreign films. As a testament to its greatness, I was able to show this movie to an entire suite of twenty-something American guys and they absolutely loved it. They found the club dance scene hilarious and were taken with the friendship and camaraderie that the three main characters shared. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a superior comedy, a heartfelt story of friends or a glimpse of some of Bollywood's better exports.
Signs (2002)
exactly what I had expected...thrilling
I was able to experience the movie SIGNS last night and the experience was wonderful. From the opening credits to the end the movie maintained a high sense of fear and apprehension. The cast was marvelous especially the youngsters and I loved the slight build-up of tension with the use of the extra-terrestrials and Shyamalan's use of faith. This was definitely a Type-A thriller that is worth seeing again...but maybe in my own household where I have the disposal of pillows.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)
Worth the wait
I have eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Harry Potter movie ever since I took the time to read the books this past summer. I went to see the film Saturday afternoon with probably one hundred other people like myself and I can honestly say I left the theater feeling satisfied. Everything worth noting from the book was included in the movie, the casting and special effects were superb, and I felt as though I was being exposed to Harry Potter's world for the first time all over again. I was really skeptical on how Chris Columbus would do, but now I can't imagine any other film by any other director. I gave the movie a 10 because my feelings about this movie are on the same level as Wizard of Oz or E.T.; I can see myself watching this movie 10 years from now and enjoying every minute.
