shows everything that is wrong with current bollywood
16 May 2021
No script, no editing, no acting. Only one superstar actor capturing most of the screen time.

This movie shows everything wrong with Bollywood movies today.

No script - check.

No character development - check.

Superstar - check.

Superstar having major screen time with other actors/characters for only supporting this person - check, Character behaving abruptly just to take movie ahead - check.

Good looking female lead only for skin show and supporting dance moved of superstar - check.

Another very well female actor for item song - check.

Use of VFX to make the image of superstar larger than what it is -check.

I can go on and on.

The worst for me is the role and character of Jackie Shroff. Seems like they had someone else in mind and then offer it to Jackie Shroff. It doesn't suit Jackie Dada at all. What people does on the name of Comedy these days.

And did Salman watch his shirtless scene? I doubt, if he had, he himself would have said to remove it. It clearly seems fake and doesn't server any purpose.

The only good point is Randeep Huda along with few side actors. They have made this film barely watchable. A bit of pat on back for action master. Action is bearable and much better than that fake action stunts using ropes and strings.

Overall its only for Salman's fans. And I doubt even they can watch it till end.

Jyada mat dekhna (Dont see too much)
10 August 2009
This is an average Bollywood movie and from the beginning to the end go as audience will expect. The movie has good suspense which makes us watch it till the end, but fails to make an impression which will last longer. The movie is good to watch on TV for free for more than once. But if you pay for this it may not be a good experience. The good thing about the movie is the main storyline, which is new to the bollywood and has the potential to make the drama interesting till end. Ray (Neil Mukesh) got his hands on a camera, which can forecast future. He uses the camera to earn money. Troubles started when he becomes greedy. Eventually bad guys find out about the camera and wants to gain it at any cost. It is the duty of Ray now to keep the camera away from bad guys, and also saving his and his girlfriend Simi's (Bipasha Basu) life. Though the narration and the speed is good somehow the movie doesn't make a strong impact. At the end the moral of the story is don't be greedy. Screenplay, scripts, direction and actings should have been better. Some characters (lady agent played by Sophiya) are totally wasted and some scenes (Malaysian thieves capturing the couple) are totally useless. Also the car chase and the over all action fails to impress. These and some other facts helps killing the spirit of the movie. At the end everything is goodi goodi and everyone is happy. Not many songs in the movie, but still the music makes a good impact. Also some small concepts like blank photo were used nicely. Not much romance drama and not having any unnecessary parallel story line are some more good points. Over and all not a bad movie to watch if to be watched for free. One may even buy the video song CD containing the "Gazab dhayo" song.

Ghajini (2008)

Much better than current Bollywood movies
19 January 2009
I have seen Memento. I have not seen the Tamil and Telugu versions of this movie.

Short term memory loss. In the movie Memento the concept was used intelligently. The audience can feel the difficulties of the person going through this disability. Memento is like solving a puzzle. While watching it we have to try to make connections between the previous scene and current scene. It is without any doubt a masterpiece in motion movies.

Ghajini, though is mentioned as a story of a man with the this disease is more of a revenge story. The main character mimics to a psychic killer who has lost his love, than a person who is suffering from short term memory. A simple advice is not to go for this movie keeping memento in mind.

The movie is certainly above average than the current bollywood movies. You can watch it till it end. First half is simply beautiful and heart lightning. It puts a simple fun story of a girl (Kalpana played by Asin) who tells everyone that she is girlfriend of a famous business tycoon. The actual fun begins when this business tycoon (Sanjay Singhania played by Amir Khan) itself becomes part of her lies. This love story continues after some time but again in flash back. It is this story which makes us smile and make the movie pretty.

The other half is exactly opposite of this and is extremely violent. Sanjay who is now having short term memory loss, searching for guy named Ghajini to kill him and to revenge the murder of Kalpana. This part is over dramatized. A typical villain, who carries with him half dozens of goons, and a typical Indian (more of south Indian) hero who easily picks up and throws a guy of double his weight. In fact the last action sequence kills the entire mood of the movie. When the audience is hoping some twist to happen, this elongated action scene doesn't stop at all. Also the very end of this scene goes in typical bollywood fashion, and audience make ridiculous faces. It is the end and climax which has gone totally wrong and had killed the movie.

I feel the overall movie is just a revenge story, and short term memory concept is not used very wisely. Only in two scenes audience can feel the pain of the person going through this trauma. Even if the main character would have been normal it would not have made much difference. It is the love story and songs which comes in as flash back makes more impact than the revenge and short term memory concept.

All the actors have done good. Amir as usual at his best (though I will not say award winning performance). His blank expressions has given more edge to his role. Asin, whom I have only seen in songs did the role naturally. She is fresh, good looking and make a hell of good impression. She is very talented without any doubt. Jiah Khan do not have much role. Same goes with her acting and expressions. Instead of her, if the director could have just put her photo with lips moving, it could not have made anything better. The villain has done his part nicely. No -ve points for him. He even succeed in making our blood boil.

Just some points which could have made movie better.

1) Why the movie is named after the villain? Doesn't make much sense at the end.

2) Jiah khans character could have given some more scope and a different actress could have been used. Jiah is too amateur to be actress. (Can certainly be used in item songs though.) 3) More stress could have given on the short term memory loss concept than the action and love story.

4) Some guns could have been used in the last action sequence. Amir doing so much of action with bare hands is not comfortable.

5) The inspector at the beginning - This role could have been used more wisely, or could have been removed at all. As current version, this role just looks like a filler.

6) The very last scene could have been shortened.

7) The scene at the end where Amir gets injured and rise again could have been removed. Some other twist could have been introduced here.

8) The flash back could have been cut into more pieces. That would have made good combination of emotions.

9) Amir is shirt less in songs but not in the end action. Something that should be thought of as a director.

10) Finally let the audience feel the pain of short term memory loss. This is the reason why Memento is a reverse movie. Something like some scene at the beginning making sense at the end. The full journey of the Sanjay for finding Ghajini could have been interesting.

Overall, it is much better movie than the current bollywood movie, with good acting and songs. But please do not watch with Memento in mind.

Impressive concept but bad implementation
19 January 2009
The building of software goes through many phases. The first of this is concept, where the goal of overall software is documented in very few lines. Then in between there is implementation phase, in which the software is coded and is ready to use. If the movies are to be put in this ideology then we have to say that Drona, having a very good concept failed completely in its implementation. What this means is the basic story is very impressive, but the movie fully failed to give any justice to it. The two line story is like this: The Asurs (devils) are behind Amrit (a divine liquid which has power of immorality) which is protected by one family named Drona. In 21st century one Asur named Riz Rayzada is behind it and it is the duty of current Drona named Aditya to stop him. I am 100% sure that if someone writes a story, novel or a comics around this, it will be worth readable. The film however has totally failed to make anything from this nice concept. It lacks the storytelling needed for fantasy movies. And it has elements which can kill any movie. Now here comes the story. Aditya (Abhi), an adopted boy which is staying with his cruel aunt (similar to Harry Potter?) in London, one day meets with Riz Rayzada (KK). Riz is the Asur who is behind the Amrita, protected by the Drona family. The protector is recognized by the bracelet (looked very much similar to that of Mummy 2) and the magic sword. Aditya who accidentally wears it was recognized by Riz Rayzada was attacked by Riz Rayzada. Soniya (Priyanka) saves Aditya from this attack, and tells him his life story. Aditya do not believe it, but in another attack by Riz finds out that he is more powerful than what he believes. This takes him to his home place, where his mother (Jaya) is waiting for him. She told him more about his family and there past. Riz arrives there too and by his magic converts the mother into statue. Now Drona has to find out the way to Amrit and rescue his mother, and at the same time protect Amrit from Riz. The rest of the story is around how he finds the Amrit, the missing magical sword, and his struggle against Riz. The script writer and director has fallen in a typical Bollywood movie trap. The basic script is only of 1 hour. How to extend it for around 2 and half hour? So there are songs, which pops up like pop-ups while browsing internet. Then there are extended action sequence with all slow motions. There are long dramatic scenes like those in soap serials. And then there are visual effects again extended unnecessary. All this has nothing to do with the main story. They do not improvise any character, nor make any point. These are the basic facts why the movie makes you sleep rather than being you on the edge. With high attention to visual effects, some simple basic flaws in story are being inattentive. Only in the beginning you know that the story is happening in the London. But after that nobody has any clue where on the earth the characters are. Sometimes they are in dessert (which sometimes is near sea), sometimes they are at the end of valley, and sometimes they are in cave. In the entire movie you don't know where the Riz Rayzada stays. He and his men are everywhere. Characters too are empty. Drona, Soniya and mother carries one or at max two expressions in the entire movie. In contrast Riz carries to much emotions. He is childish, cruel, funny at the same time. Riz sometimes is irritating to wants us to close our eyes and shut our ears. Due to hollow characters main actors do not have anything to do other than to speak the dialogs. KK could have been impressive, but due to over characterization of Riz, he fails to impress. Still I feel he had done his best to sketch Riz. I specially amazed by his expressions in the last scene, where after killing Drona, he sees the light. It has happiness, cruelty, fun, joy everything in that expressions. Music is another sad side for this film. It is bad and has negative effects on audience. It would have been best if all the songs could have been removed from the movie. It seems that some songs are only to prove that the actors can dance. Action? I don't know why people put slow motions in actions. Action itself means fast motions. The only slow motions were used for Bruce Lee's action sequences, where the action is so fast that without slow motions no one knows whats happening. But why is it needed in Bollywood? Such slow motion action sequence kill the spirit of the action. And in this case the movie. The last words - The script writer and director are to be blamed for ruining a perfect fantasy story.

When base is hollow, the building cant stand much
28 December 2008
RNBDJ is a decent entertainer. Fortunately I got free tickets of this movie and it was not so bad experience. Some of my friends who have already seen this movie warned me that its a boring movie. Inspite of that due to free tickets I went and watched it.

Fortunately the experience is not much regrettable for me, but not very pleasant also. The good thing about the movie is the music, songs and the actors. I am no fan of SRK. But I agree that he has the power to make people stick to their chair. In this movie, he performed Surinder beautifully. Raj is his normal overacted character, which we are used to. And here it is much overacted because the script demands it. The new actress and Vinay have done to their best, and performed well. The movie (when watched in theater) will make you sit to your chair till it ends. Some scenes are unnecessary and makes you snore. But still the movie is presented in a very pleasant and cool way, without any of the hyper drama and overdoses of love, friendship etc. These facts makes some positive impression.

But the basic problem of the movie is the base storyline of the movie. And this storyline is very thin and barely believable, and a lot childish. Just because someone trim mustache, remove specs and wear tight clothes doesn't make all together different personality. At least not for his wife. Also the wife saying to her boyfriend that she wants to leave, and on next day saying that she doesn't want to leave, is something that did not digest. Other than this due to very inherently corrupt baseline, the script itself has many loop holes, which doesn't make anything believable (e.g. the sumo fighting scene). The characters are also prescribed same. They are some times mild, sometimes over and hence do not make much impact. The director should know when to end the movie. After Raj says I LOVE YOU the movie should have ended within 15 minutes. But its still goes on, and then the dance at the end was utterly unnecessary. These facts also makes the impression bad about the movie. Faster the climax better the movie. Normally I hate watching songs in the movie. But in this if the songs were not there, I would have got out within minutes. Songs have definitely played a very good role in the movie. But in that too, hearing same music and line 'Rab ne bana di jodi' in high pitch more than often irritates brain. Again I am no great fan of Yashraj and SRK movies. But normally this combination means a funny, romantic three hours which could be spent with family. This movie too comes in same category, but if possible go with the pillow, so that you can take rest in between. And no need to say that you wont be remembering anything after you came out of theater. (Off course unless you want to write a review.)

the worst action ever in bolllywood cinema
27 May 2008
I just saw the movie in theater. The movie has very few good points to talk about. Kareena's beauty and a couple of songs may be. Thats it. The movie is a complete disappointment in all areas. Anyone associated with the movie will be disappointed, even Mumbai Indians too (just now Chennai has made it to semi-final).

But the worst I feel about the movie is the action scenes. Now days Bollywood is trying to copy action scenes from Hollywood. But they forget that Hollywood directors takes a lot effect to make it look like real. But unfortunately Bollywood directors do not have that much of time. They spend their time on songs and publicity of the movie. Now such too stupid action scenes may work in South as the audience just pay to watch their favorite actor killing bunch of people. But in Bollywood this is certainly not going to work. All the action scenes I wish I could have forwarded. At the end even some Chinese people appear from nowhere to beat Akshay Kumar. This is height of stupidity. Audience is not paying to watch such stupidity. I think Bollywood now should forget about the action movies. They cant make it. The last good action I have seen was from "Ghatak" and "Khiladiyon ka Khialdi". The current scene in Bollywood is really sad for action movie fans like me. Does these people see their movie after completion? Can't they figure out that the slow motion action (which is done using ropes) is too unrealistic and childish? Better not to have action scenes if you cant handle it. I just want to go back to Amitabh's era where movie like Zanjeer and Deewar were having thrilling action scenes. The sound effect was not very effective in those days, but visually it is much better than current era scenes.

This movie now should open the eyes of the Bollywood movie directors. Please don't make any more action movies, until you acquire the art of making it realistic.

Fool N Final (2007)
2/10
An unfortunate experience for me
15 January 2008
I am one of the most unlucky person in the world. I first watch this movie 'fool N final' and the watch the original movie 'Snatch'. That is why I was not able to enjoy the movie Snatch as I was knowing what is going to happen. I must say that 'Fool n Final' is one of the badly failed copy cat movies. Not that all the copy cat movies fails. We have good examples of Aitraaz, Bheja Fry, and not so bad examples of Murder, Kaante. This movie fails in copying the fun of the original plot for Indian audience.

If you are reading this to decide whether to watch the movie or not, I will suggest you to watch movie Snatch rather. If you can not get Snatch then may be go on and watch this one. But spend as little money as possible. There are few scenes in the movie which are funny, but they the rest are utter garbage. The changed story line doesn't suit the Indian climate. Music is not so good, acting is not up to mark. I wont say anything much about this.

Watch on your risk, or to be safe watch original movie 'Snatch'.

too much of love, way too much
14 January 2008
The movie was one of the biggest hit in Bollywood and won some awards too. After all, it was a perfect entertainer "paisa wasool" movie. The length come out as as positive part. In India the more length is the movie the more "paisa wasool" it is. Especially movie like this, which is full of romance, drama, music and female body shows.

I love the music of the movie. It was great. Also the acting by the legends Amitabh and SRK. And as usual of Yashraj films, the filmography and camera work was great too.

The problem I have is with what exactly message the movie wants to spread? I feel that the movie is trying to say, love first other things later. Other things including discipline, your studies and your career. The "Gurukool" is an ideal school for the college students. The principle expects from them that they should only concentrate on their studies, their career, personal development and their future, at least for the time which they will be spending in this college. (Thats another problem. What kind of school is it? Is it after 10th or after 12th school? And if it is after 12th, why are they wearing uniform?) And to accomplish this he has some strict set of rules. (They are too strict, Agreed.) Now from nowhere a new music teacher comes to college (when the principle does not allow any cultural program in college, why at first place he appointed this music teacher?). Now the music teacher is a real romantic guy, who has done romance with the daughter of the principle, when he himself was in the same college. As this is against the rules of college, principal throws the boy out, and his lover suicides, as her father rejected her love. (This is far too stretched. What? No, it isn't. OK. Not far stretched, and can happen in reality.) And this teacher has now swore that he will fill the entire college with the love. Means he will teach the student the cheap acts of how to write love letter in more effective ways (like using 'Piple ka Panna' as letter), or bung the lecture to meet the girlfriends, and also by bringing neighboring girls to the hostel in absence of principal.(In reality, one of those girls will get pregnant in such situation.)By doing this he think he is doing a great thing for the boys and for the society.

By now, you must have understood what my problem is. They say at the end that a balance of discipline and love is required, but actually more weight in given to love, and the man with the discipline has negative shades in character. The next part of the movie is clear. These three students fail in their exam, or pass with the low score, and after college has problem in finding job, and very low knowledge for opening their own business. But the movie ends way before this happens.

It is good to give entertainment to the people, but then one should also pay the attention to what actually you are teaching. The movie which was released at the same time "Mission Kashmir" was having exactly opposite characteristics. The movie was having very less entertainment but gives out gives out good moral to the people. And again it is fact that "Mission Kashmir" flops and Mohobbatein was a great hit. Sometimes, things like these upset me for Bollywood. But fortunately now the Bollywood audience is also giving attention to the spirits of the movie. And hence KANK is super-flop, and Munnabhais are doing great in all parts.

Showbiz (2007)
3/10
Nothing much in this show
14 January 2008
Showbiz is a movie made to show the ugly face of electronic media. The subject is interesting and looking at today's world pretty serious too. But debut director Raju Khan was not able to hold the load of such serious subject and delivered something which is too much unrealistic and unbelievable.

Showbiz is a story of Rohan a new young promising singer (this singer can play good guitar and band too). He is the winner of some contest on the channel named Showbiz, driven by Saurav Shukla, and he is star in his first album. His career is just about to grow when some publicity and money hungry media reporters trapped him and publish false news about him. Rohan whose career is now doomed must seek revenge on them, with their own weapon.

To be true I didn't find any good point in the movie, except that only at certain point it is interesting. Specially somewhere around interval the story takes turn and we feel that there is going to be some excitement in the movie. But before that and even after that nothing of any significance happens and story goes as predicted.

Lets start from the beginning of the movie. The movie starts with the song, and then in the first 30 minutes we are bombarded by another two songs. The songs are not very good for ears neither for eyes. Story just crawls very slowly and absolutely nothing happens in first 20 minutes (remember the movie is less than 2 hrs), other than characters introduction. Some events starts happening after the 3rd song and the story get grip around interval. But then again interval it goes in predicted line and by the end the audience can exactly say word by word what dialogs are coming next.

Another problem is too loud and unrealistic characters of villains (i.e. media people), which are not different than the cool terrorists in other Bollywood movies. With such characters come unrealistic situations followed by unrealistic scenes. Whatever is happening nothing is believable and are just out of scope for happening in reality. The end also goes in the similar way. The hero easily fools all these very intelligent villains.

In short there is nothing significant to watch in the movie. Acting is below ordinary for the youngsters. Also the elders do not make any impression. Music, choreography, camera work is not impressive. Script has lot of holes, and direction is not up to point. Even after being shorter than the usual Bollywood movie, at many times movie feels just stretched without any significant events. Just watch the movie on your own risk. OK to watch on rented CD or on cable channels.

Jab We Met (2007)
7/10
Nice entertainer
13 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
'Jab we met' is one of the typical Bollywood entertainer, where first half is full of comedy while second half full of drama. But the good thing is that the movie makes the audience tickles. And it's really unfortunate that now when Karina and Shaheed chemistry looking good, they are separated.

The movie starts with the character of Aditya Kashyap (Shaheed Kapur) running away from his responsibilities giving away hopes in life. And the in the journey he met with Geet (Kareen Kapur), whose destination is Matinda. Geet is a jolly young girl who leaves in her own dream world, and follows her heart everywhere. The things happen in such a way that Aditya gives company to Geet to her house, and also helps her to run away from her house and to find her true love Anshuman (Tarun Arora). All these situations changes the perception of Aditya to see the world, and he too started to follow his heart and face the challenges rather than avoiding those. He finds out that there is more to see in the world than just meet the eyes. But on other side, Anshuman refuses Geet and Geet gets shattered. Now it is for Aditya to bring back Geet in her life.

The second attempt of the director Imtiaz Ali 'Jab we met' in first half hour puts some expectation and at the end succeeds in meeting those. The scenes in first half are impressive, funny and achieve the desired effects. The second half though predictable and not so excite at least put the audience on chair. Even though some scenes are a bit stretched far from reality they do not break the speed of the movie. E.g. the second time Geet miss the train due to her stupidity, makes us think whether the girls are really these stupid? Music without any doubt has scored points in this movie. The songs are not only good to hear and see but also occurs at proper points in the movie, and do not give the feeling that they are bombarded on us. Acting wise, the lead actors Shaheed and Kareena had done a very good and admirable job. Shaheed looks good in serious roles than in jolly roles. And he now days he is improving fast. Kareena I guess by now is enough mature to understand the depth of the characters she does.

Over and all 'jab we met' is a good experience. Though the concept and theme is not new, the execution is sweet and cute. You won't regret watching this one.

Very matured children movie
13 January 2008
Director Vishal Bhardwaj is by now an expert in making the movies suitable for children genre. The movie "Blue Umbrella" is much more similar to his previous creation Makdee, gives a lot to watch for adults than the children. I think these movies are two amongst the best in this category.

The story of 'Blue Umbrella' takes place at a some cold Himalayan village. The presentation and camera work to show the coolness of the village is marvelous. Within few minutes the audience will get mix with the village and the people living in it. The characters are sketched and presented in very simple manner and are introduced naturally. It takes just one song and a couple of scenes to get into the movie before the real story begun.

The music and the acting are great points, which goes in favor of movie. Pankaj Kapur who leads the screen is a natural actor and as in his other characters you wont find any misbehavior in Nandkishor character. The child actor Shriya has also done a great job. The feelings that Biniya gets when she gets the umbrella, and again the sorrow for the lost of umbrella are done excellently by Shriya. Full credits to here and the director.

I won't say anymore about this one. If you are reading this I will urge you to watch this. It is not one of those multi-masala Bollywood movies, neither the ultra boring Indian art movies. It is in between these two extremes and very much different than other movie. It's a real cool piece of cinema which is a great pleasure for the eyes and the mind. I am regretting for not watching the movie in theater. (I didn't recall this movie was released in any theater in Bangalore). But certainly from next time, I will wait impatiently for children movies from Vishal Bhardwaj.

Speed (2007)
3/10
An OK movie which could have been a good movie
11 January 2008
Speed which I believe is direct copy of the Hollywood movie Cellular (I haven't watched this one) gives an impression of a test match which is very exciting in first four days, but then gets in a very boring draw at the end. I have watched this movie today on 12th January 2008 on rented VCD. It's release date is 19th Oct 2007. But still fortunately for me I didn't know or heard much of this movie before except that it is a flop at box office. So in this situation when I watch the movie, I feel that this movie could have been a very good movie, but then the director again falls in the trap for Bollywood traditions and has wasted a very good chance.

Off course as a Bhatt movie it must be copied from somewhere else. But now days it doesn't matter for me, if I haven't seen the original movie. I just found the main theme much similar to 'Nick of Time' and 'Badshah'. In the movie Sanjay Suri is shown an intelligence agent, but his wife thinks that he is a chef. This brings back the memory of 'True-Lies'. The only new part was the use if the phone. But that too I found out now is taken from movie Cellular. So when a movie is made with the mixture of so many other movies it's future is quite clear.

The things I like about the movie is its pace. As the name suggest the things really happens fast, and there is not much time to think about in between the scenes. But this breaks in the last 20 minutes of so where the movie goes in traditional Bollywood style of Dhishum dhishum.

The plot of the movie is also quite interesting. Three stories going parallel, one after the other. One of the kidnapping of Urmila, the other of the Zayed trying to help Urmila, and then the plan of murder of prime minister. These three stories gets mixed up naturally with each other as the movie continues.

But then the very ordinary acting and unnecessary extra style has killed the spirit of the movie. Except Sanjay Suri, none other makes any impression. This goes even for Urmila, who is always promising in RGVs movies. Due to this ordinary acting some scenes doesn't really convey the feelings that director wanted. E.g. the scene at the end where Urmila leaves all hope and cut the phone, should have made a good impact. But instead we just wait for the end of that scene.

Other than acting, some unnecessary love for style demoralizes the movie. Showing so cool villains is good for Hollywood movies not for Bollywood The background of London is also only for making style and not much intelligent advantage of this background can be seen. Especially at the end, all those dhishhum- dhishhum were utterly unnecessary. May be director has an impression that the climax in Hindi movies must have such fights. They look unrealistic, increase the length of the movie and make sure that the people are leaving theater before the movie ends.

Over and all, I find the movie once watchable. If it is coming on TV or you can get it on rent its OK. But then again make sure that you have the remote and forward button handy. Next time, when the movie is on TV, you can safely watch other channels.

A failed saga
11 January 2008
Eklavya certainly does not do justice to the creation with such great actors of current era. The problem is lack of entertainment, which is consistently absent in failed movies of VV Chopra '1947 – A love story', 'Mission Kashmir', 'Parineeta'. May be this is the reason these movies do not do any good on box office. But still it is hard to say that the movies were bad. These movies provide a very less entertainment.

Eklavya too lacks entertainment. Moreover it fails to take best out of the actors. It also does not make a clear picture of what the director wants to convey. I guess introduction of unnecessary characters has killed the main theme. The characters of Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani and Vidya Balan has very limited role which do not do any justice to the acting skills of these good actors.

The movie is really good for the eyes. One thing in which VV Chopra has scored point is the environment making. The sketch of rural India is very effective. The big palace, its surrounding, the entire town and also the dessert fits perfectly to the theme, and there is no issue there. The music is also matching with this environment and soothing to the ear.

All the actors have done a good job. You can not think any other person in the role of Eklavya other than Amitabh Bachhan. This man do not need dialogs to talk. Saif has also given full justice to his character. Audience can get his emotions and can find the battle he is playing with himself, not knowing what decision is right or wrong. Jackey Shroff and Jim Shergill have done decent in their negative characters. Others though have very limited roles has done their best and fits the characters that they have done.

The unrealistic and larger than life picture of main character is another weak point. The scene where Amitabh shows his aiming and concentration skills was unnecessary, and takes the movie on the fairy tale path. Not only this, but again many other scenes should have been shortened in length. This is what makes the movie boring.

I feel that if VV looks at his flop films, he himself will understand the problem. The movie is more than the main path Bollywood movie, takes the path of the art movie. So it dangles in between this, and at the end, ends nowhere.

Nice surprise
11 January 2008
The movie has really come out as a nice surprise. I watched it expecting it to be very stupid and rubbish comedy like 'Dhol' or 'Tom. Dick and Harry'. I even was not having any intention of watching this movie, as I know what to expect from such movies. My roommate bought this movie and then I watched it with him. And we both like it. In fact we were both rofling while watching and saying, "Kya Bakwaas Chal Raha Hain".

We were involved so much that only at the last scene we realized that the movie theme is copied from rat race. I again watched the movie after one month back at my home.

Yes, the movie is full of stupid unrealistic scenarios and characters. The movie is also copied from not one but multiple Hollywood films. But the touch that they have given from Indian audience and the decent acting from lead characters made this movie worth watching. Even though all the jokes are very old age, due to the way they are presented and the way they occur we want to laugh at them.

When the movie has many characters normally we see that character building itself takes a lot of time and then each character did not get enough scope on screen. But fortunately in this movie each one gets its share time to develop and present themselves. Due to this there is restriction on scope of each character and hence the actors doing those do not have any problems performing them. That is why even without any big names behind (except Sanjay Dutt) the movie has done some good at box office.

The movie is flows with constant pace. Nowhere we find it going slow (except for the plane scene may be) or going fast. Also absence of songs I will treat as a positive point.

The other important aspect is not having any female actor. In todays Bollywood era, where an item song is a must in a movie doing such a daring is admirable.

This is the kind of you will like to watch and forget, but if you get another chance you will watch it again. At least I will.

Something new to Bollywood and OK to watch
11 January 2008
Before I saw this movie I was having a faint idea about what to expect. I watched the movie with my fingers crossed after reading the reviews in news paper. Especially after Nishabd, Aag and Shiva I was expecting this movie to be another thrash by RGV. But at the end I like the overall movie and here I am giving 6 rating to it. What I like about the movie is it finds comedy in horror. I don't remember happening this before in Bollywood movies. (Chamtkar may be ..) With the humor in it the movie makes the audience tickle. Better not to watch it by keeping any expectations in mind.

It has very simple story line as of other RGV movies. A well settled married man (Fardeen Khan) accidentally kills his secretary come girlfriend (Esha Deol). The girlfriend then comes as a ghost to haunt her killer. And in all this the wife (Isha Kopikar) is confused because of her husband's weird behavior.

The simple story line is no doubt has stretched by Director and script writer. Especially at the beginning, before Esha dies and then she comes as a ghost, the movie goes with a low pace. But after that I think it gets the grip.

The movie is rather funny because of some unique characters. Specially the character played by Zakir Hussaina and Inspector Reddy. Also the lady inspector character is unique and the way it has been used it is funny.

Othre than this, I also like the things Fardeen tries to get rid of ghost, but fails. It is the overall presentation of scenes and their arrangements makes the entire movie fun riding horror experience.

In all, it was a good try to give something new to Bollywood audience, and I as one will accept it. May be some time later, we see more of such experiments done, and getting success at box office.

A rare combination of Inspiration, Patriotism, Sport and Bollywood Movies
10 January 2008
If someone take a look at all Yashraj films in past 2-3 years, it is really hard to believe that Chak De has came from there. It's good that finally Yashrak banner has came up with something really excellent and extraordinary. I hope they will continue with this and bring back their success era again.

The movie is marvelous for many reason. First it touches the topic of Hockey in India where sport means Cricket. Then it also tells the story of a girl team, which I think is done first time in Indian cinema. It also interact with the different peoples from different parts of India, and how they achieve success when combined together. And finally it also got the touch of little thriller at the end. The most important is even after having all these things in it, it didn't leave its rhythm anywhere. A special hats off to the script writer and the director for achieving this.

Off course I haven't forgotten the King Khan. He certainly plays a major role in the success on this, but not all. SRK has done an excellent, no doubt award winning job in this movie. I personally will like him to do such on the ground roles rather than Raj, Rahul and Om Kapur, where he uses his style talent more that acting talent. SRK, you really rocks in this movie. There is no greater pleasure than watching you as Kabir Khan.

The movie has its own pace. Nowhere the audience feel bored, no unnecessary songs, unnecessary dramatic scenes, romantic scenes, and patriotic dialogs. The movie from start is sticked to its basic theme that is to tell the story of the Women Hockey team and their coach.

What else can I say? If I start writing all the good things, I will have to spend entire night for this. Hence I will say that "Just watch it and you will know".

But having said that there are some technical drawbacks in the movie. At the end, specially when the result is clear it just feels that its has been stretched. But that is understandable as it has made to add some thriller in it.

But some of the things are just can not be digested. After India loosed against Australia by 7-0, the team goes on winning each of the other match. This seems far stretched. Again Indian team after loosing to Australia by 7-0, England team saying that they will win by even greater margin is something unrealistic. No team will make such statement. Have ever heard Australia saying that "We will easily win this match."? This doesn't happen. Every team just says that they will play their best. No one underestimate other team like this.

And the thing that hurt me most is the characters of Cricketers. There is no need to show cricketers like this. In fact, all sport persons have equal respect to other sport. They know how much effort one has to give for becoming specialist in each sport. With this Indian Cricket team wise captain showing no respect for Hockey is something not acceptable. This is just like in Bhagat Singh movies Gandhi's character is shown gray. Shortening the image of other to make your thing high is something should not be done. It has been shown that the cricketer is having no respect for other game. Instead it would have been better if he has shown not caring about women sports specially. Again at the end, when the team arrives at airport people are cheering them. A real end would have been there is no one at airport as the people are watching one day match on TV. Something like that.

But these are very small points which can be neglected. This movie is a special milestone in Hindi Cinema. A hearty congratulations to the entire crew of the movie. I just hope Hindi cinema will come up with more and more of such intelligent movies.

Bheja Fry (2007)
9/10
A perfect entertainer
10 January 2008
Now days, there are few Bollywood movies which are once watchable. Few of these make an impact, and very rare of those can be watched again and again. "Bheja Fry" has succeeded in entering in these rare category movies. It has everything a perfect Bollywood comedy should have.

Most part of it is comedy, but a tiny part is drama, and this tiny part is the one which makes a lot impact. The story revolves around two characters Ranbeer, a music company producer and Bharat Bhushan, a tax officer who thinks he is the best in everything, but very humble in nature. Ranjeet wants to take Bharat Bhushan to the special Friday night party but Ranjeet's wife Anjali leaves him at the same night. The rest of the movie is what all things he do to get his wife back, and how Bharat Bhushan helps him, even after knowing the bad intentions of Ranjeet.

The movie from starting get the hold of the audience and till end the grip gets tighter. Nowhere we find the movie boring or slow pacing. Songs are not introduced in the movies as they are not needed at all. The direction and script are too good. Special hats off to the actors Rajat Kapoor and Vinay Pathak, who has given full justice to their characters. Sometimes, you feel pity for Ranjeet, and again at others he is the worst guy you have ever seen. Same goes to Bharat Bhushan but in other sense. Other actors have also done very good in their limited roles.

After watching this movies I have guessed that the script can not be original. And after reading the comments here I find it is true. I haven't seen the original movie. But still I do not want to take credit from director or writer who has made this movie so hilarious.

The reason being copy cat movies are not new to Bollywood. In fact every other movies in todays Bollywood era is copied from some other movie. And these movies has failed miserably at box office, and also at the critics. This is because they didn't change the original script or story properly for Indian audience. There is a big list of such movies e.g all Bhatt movies 'Saaya', 'Zeher', 'The Killer', and many other movies as 'Awara Pagal Diwana', 'Diwane Huye Pagal' , 'Ab Bas', 'Kaante', 'Chocolate', 'zinda' and many more. Some of these were changed properly and were hits e.g. 'Aetbaar', 'Murder'. But most of the others failed miserably as the director don't know what to do to change the script for Indian audience, and end up putting unnecessary songs and romantic scenes in it.

It is because of this, I believe that creating a copy cat movie is more difficult than an original movie. Off course making is simple but making it in a way that Indian audience will like it is difficult. Even in this movie 'Bheja Fry' the idea that someone's wife is sleeping with other man and finding fun in this is not acceptable in Indian movies. But the way and the situation in this happens in the movie it makes people laugh loud. All those who are taking credit because it is copy cat movies, I am sure have not seen the other stupid movies that Bollywood has made. But off course if the story is copied from somewhere the crew should have mentioned that, but then as it is usual in Indian movies they have not done that. And this is something not forgivable. But again you may like to forget this while watching the movie again and again.

At least I would like to forget this fact, and as long as someone is making movies like this I don't care from where the original script is coming.

A shame for the Bollywood movies
10 January 2008
I will really amazed by the people who had went to theaters to watch this movie and has watched till end. These people are either blind and deaf or this is the first movie they are watching in their life. It is not that this is the worst movie made ever, but such thrash coming from the people who has given movie like "Gupt" is really saddening.

The base of the movie is adult comedy, stupid sense of humor, and making fun of a dead body. A rich businessman dies, but because his family needs his wealth they are showing the world outside that he is still alive, by moving his dead body around. Meanwhile, for some or the other reason they are also cutting different parts from the dead body. Also at each day one of the other family friend is getting killed by this family, and again they have to move the dead body as it is alive and show it to the world. Also, while achieving this horrendous task, the family also finds out the shady truths about their family members. These truths vary from woman having affair with another man, man having affair with man, and also the children finding out that their real father is different, and for that they are being proud to moms.

The bad thing about the movie is the movie has some great actors of current era like Paresh Rawal, and Om Puri. Having such great actors in such kind of movies is very saddening, as it makes to think us what is that which makes actors signing movie.

I have rated this movie 1/10 as this is the least vote I can give. Unfortunately IMDb does not support negative ranking. This movie is the greatest insult to the Indian culture and family values. Its not that the movie with such subjects should always be bad, but then the dialogs, the scenes, the characters, and overall presentation is very very bad. They say that you will die laughing, but at the end you may want to suicide with shame.

Om Shanti Om (2007)

A lot entertainer and senseless movie
8 January 2008
No doubt, that this movie is going to break the box office record. I has made for doing that only. Farah Khan in her second movie kept her promise of giving lot of entertainment, at the same time giving the most senseless and stupid movie. Good or bad I don't know. I will give it to individual to decide.

That is the reason why the movie is having extreme comments. On one side, its is the best for SRK fans (SRK is there in almost every frame of the movie, so much that finally someone may want to throw out). It is also the best for the mass who like to watch comedy, drama, romance, music in one shot. This movie has it all. "Maa Ka Pyar", "Main Maa Bananewali Hoon", "Mera Beta Wapas Aayega", "Muze Zinda Gaad Diya" all and many more emotions are packed in this 3 hr movie. But even after that you feel movie is still lengthy specially in second half.

As a really good entertainer the movie gives very good music, dance, dialogs. Acting wise all are good except Deepika, specially in second half. No doubt, why she has so less dialogs.

At the other side the movie is totally unrealistic. Unrealistic characters, unrealistic events, too stupid dialogs. All these points suddenly become clear when you watch 'chak de India' and this movie having less interval in between. I always believe that a movie should be entertaining first, should be able to bind the people to the chair. This movie does that. But then at the times, you also think why the hell have I wasted so much precious time of my life watching this movie.

You can easily see from what I have written that how much confused I am. I am still not able to decide whether the movie is good or bad. Hence I gave an intermediate rating. Let each individual decide it. Meanwhile I will try to forget that I wasted three hours of life, while watching Dard-e-disco on youtube again and again.

Extraordinary tale of a extraordinary talented boy
8 January 2008
"Taare Zameen par" tells the story of a boy named Ishan, who is having a mental disability named Dyslexia. Due to this people around think that the boy is very dull, stubborn, and irresponsible. But his new drawing teacher Ramkumar Nikumb (Aamir Khan) makes people educate about this and helps the kid not only to overcome this disability, but also takes out the extraordinary drawing and thinking talent from the kid.

First the negative points because as for me there is only one, and that is the length of the movie. The movie is unnecessary stretched to its current length. Because of this sometimes it loose the grip. All the songs either could have been removed or could have been shortened. This happens in both half of the movie. Especially at the end when the rest story is clear the movie elongates unnecessary.

Having said that other than that the movie is excellent. Hats off to the writer. While watching the movie, it becomes clear that the writer has taken effort for doing some research before writing the script.

Also a special thanks to director/actor Aamir Khan. In Indian movies specially when director and leading actor is same, the focus of the movie automatically shifted to his own character. But certainly not in this movie, where the Aamir's entry it self is at the Interval. And even after that the main focus is on the kid, rather than the teacher. This is really difficult as a director to do, and congrats to Aamir for achieving this.

The success of the movie is in its execution which sends out the clear message as it intends i.e. "Every child is special". The help of Dyslexia is just to make this message clear.

From starting the story revolves around this kid who is dull in study and as a result is always the target of scolding from parents and teachers. The movie has successfully sketched the kids feeling and the audience can exactly feel what the kid is feeling, and the kid starts getting pity from them. And as the movie progresses audience gets more and more attached to the feelings of the kid.

Another excellent point of the movie is the movie from start to end concentrate only on main script and nowhere it moves from its original message. No unnecessary characters, jokes or funny situations. It is this reason that even after leaving the theater, you can't take this movie out of your head.

Hence I have rated this movie 8/10. The only two points are removed because of the length of the movie, due to which at many points in the movie you feel bored, and wait for when this scene is going end. Other than that it is really good movie and must watch for each person in society who is dealing with the kids.

Nothing great to watch out for
18 August 2007
This is the story of some people living in one apartment. As it progresses it comes out as one of those movies where every male character comes out as a bad guy and every female character is a poor victim of male dominated society. Just for a change the females which are wives are new generation thinkers and are out of the typical Indian woman image. But unfortunately the plot, the direction, the songs, the acting in short all the parts of the movies are very ordinary.

The intentions of the movie is good. It tries to send out the message that in todays world, a man should try to understand the feeling of his wife and not to get in her way to accomplish her dreams.

So the story of two couples are depicted in the movie, one played by Jimmy and Neha, the other by Ronit and Simon. Jimmy and Neha both are in corporate world, both are in marketing. In one situation Neha unknowingly takes out some contact from Jimmy and hurts his ego. In other couples Ronit for no reason likes to cheat on his wife, while Simon can't do anything about it. Some college kids also to be seen in the movie, along with some other old people. But I don't understand there overall role in the movie.

In summary, this movie is not worth watching or spending money. Even though these actors are trying to do hard for their characters the characters themselves are vague and hollow. 3 out of 10.

Raqeeb (2007)

Lots of unrealistic twist
18 August 2007
What can you say (or write) about the movie which starts with the leading actress oozing from the swimming pool, with the minimum clothes allowed Bollywood movies? Yup, thats what Raqeeb is all about, and thats what exactly Tanushree Dutta continues to do in rest of the movie. So if you are looking for that this is the movie you will like.

But not most people will like it. The movie is supposed to be a thriller, but in that way its a hyper thriller. The twists happened in the regular interval, and when you think there is nothing more, more twists happen. In all lot of twists happen. Three main actors and one leading actress, all are good at one time and bad at other times. The main problem is there are lots of turns and twists. Songs are not great. Actors are immatures. Nothing much to see.

A too much twisted and turned story + body of Tanushree Dutta + not so great actors = Raqeeb.

Bhoot (2003)
8/10
Real scary
17 July 2007
Bhoot is one of the Ram Gopal Vermas milestone, and also the only good movie which is of genre horror and also a professional Bollywood film. Before Bhoot, the horror movies made in Bollywood were mostly will fit in comedy. Off course, other than Ramse movies, some serious tries were made like Ankahee and others. But they failed to get attention of the audience or to get good reviews and critics. Even Ramu's previous movies Raat and 'Darna Mana Hain' failed to get any attention.

So before watching Bhoot I have prepared for a movie which will scare you less and make you sleep more. But I was totally wrong. The movie doesn't have ghosts with painted faces, neither it has females wearing bare minimum clothes and throwing other people around like basketball, neither it has Mantriks with skull in their hands. It is a very simple low budget movie.

It is more comparable to Kaun than any other Bollywood horror movies you have seen. Most of the credit goes to the Director, and remaining to the actors, specially Urmila. Urmila is the main character and mostly the story revolves around her, and she fits there so well. Ajay and Nana were as usual at their best leaving us with nothing to curse for. Ajay a simple, middle class husband who is totally helpless and got no clue of what should be done, while Nana a 'Chakram' police inspector who has doubt that something weird is going on. These two characters too are plotted very well, and done with the same power by the actors.

Another good aspect is its short length. The movie starts quickly, without showing us any love story and song. A couple getting into a new apartment house, which is haunted, and the wife gets possessed by the ghost. Its just one line story.

The most important aspects of ghost stories is the environment making, and thats the most positive part of this movie. Just the sound of lift coming up and down makes so much of impact. I will recommend this movie to everyone, who enjoys Bollywood movies, and also to those who enjoys horror movies. In my opinion, this movies should go in "101 must watch Bollywood movies" as it is the only good horror movie made in Bollywood till date.

One of the best comedies you will ever see
16 July 2007
Without any doubt, this is one of the best comedies you will never forget. Made very well and makes you laugh from start to the end. The theme simply is how a simple thing from modern life, changes the life of these tribe people dramatically, and what they think about modern life and people. The movie shows the simple life of these tribe people and makes us think is the civilization we leave in, is really better than theirs? The movie starts with explaining our day to day life as can be seen from the creatures from another planet. Then it shows the life of these African tribe people, their thinking about the god, the world, and the things which are new for them. Then the stories of people from different part of the world begins, and these stories are mixed with each other. The main characters are the tribesman who is on extra-ordinary voyage to the end of the world, a forest officer who is in love with the school teacher, an young lady who is frustrated with her daily work in modern civilization and is now a teacher in a remote village, and a terrorist who wants to cross the border. Their stories gets mixed in natural and most hilarious ways. This is the must watch movie, for all. This movie according to me must get a rating above 8.

Not as good as expected
28 June 2007
The overall movie I feel is good, but could have been a lot lot better, only if the director would have stopped to make an effort to make the movie more entertainer. What I mean by this is some scenes, almost all songs, and Abhishek Bachhan are not only unnecessary, but they also kill the mood.

Let me start with the good points. The movie shows the battle between cops and shooters. The plot is very good, the movie has a good pace. Sometimes you feel cops are right and sometimes you think the underworld gang should survive. It is this part which makes you switch your side, made the movie watchable. Also it has given exactly the same weight to family matters as it is needed.

The next comes the actors Sanjay Dutt and Vivek-Anand Oberoi. The entire story revolves around the characters they have played, viz. ACP Samsher Khan, and Maya Dallas. All care have been taken to make an impression about these two characters. Showing them walking in slow motion, walking around without caring about the bullets being fired around, the punch lines, and the dialogs. Watching these two on screens doing the stuffs in their style is a good experience.

Apart from story line and these two actors, all other things are ordinary. But fortunately they doesn't make the movie bad. Other actors Sunil Shetty, Arbaz Khan, Rohit Roy fits in their characters, and have done good, at least no harm to their characters. Just that I feel that those hi-fi conversation between Arbaaz and Sunil could have been removed. It hurts the characters and purely unnecessary.

Now the bad part. First I will mention Tushhar Kapoor. Though his outfit is changed to suit as an "don't care" shooter, his acting is very pathetic. One can clearly tell that he is trying hard to get into character, but he can not. Also his character Buwa also misbehaves differently in movie. In the beginning it feels that he is a serious thinker, and not of type "just do it". But later in the movie he is shown just shooting the people unnecessary, laughing at unnecessary points, and making unnecessary comments. I feel that if this character could have been portrait better, it would have done a lot better for the movie. Watching Tushhar Kapoor on screen is just a terrible punishment.

The songs as mentioned by many, is a total useless addition. Though they are good to listen and watch, they harm a lot to the story line. In fact, it is this part, which makes the movie unrealistic. The songs are to be blamed major for not having this movie in the quality of Vaastav or Satya. I will just say that, if you haven't watched the movie, go and watch it. But just don't put much expectations. This is based on true rumors, and exactly has got nothing to do with reality.
