I actually quite enjoyed this
1 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I put it on initially expecting to hate it and turn it off after 10 minutes but I ended up watching it all and I enjoyed it.

Sure it's cheesy and cliched but it's was also quite fun. I liked the lead actress, I haven't seen her before in anything but she reminded me of Sandra Bullock.

The plot is very far fetched especially in more modern times and I am sure she could have easily explained the email away had she tried but then hey, there wouldn't be much of a movie without this premise.

It's a harmless TV movie type of film with some silly and funny bits. Don't think too deeply about it, just enjoy it.

Missed the mark for me
13 September 2022
Not quite what I wanted it to be. Everyone is so awkward, like they are strangers rather than family.

Reminds me of 'Play for Today' with the awkward silences and supposed portrayal of real life... but not as good. Shame as the acting was great but it just didn't gel together well.

Came away not really sure what the point was, I didn't understand what they were trying to say. It wasn't a slice of escapism that I usually watch TV for as it just made me feel on edge the whole time but ultimately nothing happened.

Bookended with the worst title music I think I've ever heard, didn't fit the feel of the programme at all.

Dexter: New Blood (2021–2022)
8/10
Just when I thought I got out...
4 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After being a huge Dexter fan from the original series I was so nervous this new mini series would be disappointing and ruin all that had gone before it.

I, like all true Dexter fans, hated the ending to the original series and felt extremely dissatisfied with it. The last series was pretty bad and wrapped everything up in a horrible way that left us feeling short changed after being so thrilling and entertaining right up until it wasn't.

I couldn't see a way for New Blood to put it right and revive things but it really pulled it off. Much darker than the original there were still little glimpses of Dexter's old sense of humour and sarcasm thrown in but with new spins on how he handles things and navigates his relationships.

So my disappointment this time comes from the series ending with Dexter's own death, meaning there will be no more, as I was really looking forward to having him around again after all these years. I know it had to end this way but all through the last episode I was trying to think how he could get out of it this time but sadly it wasn't to be.

Going down hill a bit after season 3
28 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Only discovered this series recently and have really enjoyed cringing along with it but feel Cathy's character is getting way too over the top. No one would tolerate her behaviour and it was much funnier when her antics were less vicious.

I do miss Sharon Rooney playing Christine's daughter Sophie but like the addition of Joy McAvoy and Graeme Stevely (Michelle & Al), they've slotted right in but the writers definitely need to soften Cathy so she isn't totally hateful.

I'm not sure what message this movie was trying to convey
6 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The 5 stars are for Olivia Coleman's acting, which was superb as always but it was very hard to watch to the end when her character was so narcissistic and just horrid.

Everyone in the film were out for themselves and I had a knot in my stomach the whole way through from the general air of malice and uneasiness.

Quite disappointing as I actually wanted to see her get in trouble in the end, because I felt like she deserved it.

An uncomfortable watch
4 January 2022
Had wanted to see this for years and finally got a chance recently. It was an uncomfortable watch from the start, even though I could appreciate the acting. Years ago this movie was seen as a bit of fun but in this day and age the whole premise is just wrong.

Dolittle (2020)

The CGI kills it for me
27 December 2021
Had a few funny moments but between the over use of CGI and Robert Downey Jr's wandering accent I couldn't really get in to it or care about any of the characters. Michael Sheen stole the show as per usual and ironically would have made a much better Dolittle (with a proper Welsh accent). Too much going on in practically every scene so I missed dialogue here and there. Sadly once again the great concept of Dr Dolittle is let down by a poor interpretation.

It was okay until the singing...
28 November 2021
It was a bit cheesy and predictable but certainly watchable until they started singing and unfortunately I turned it off and haven't been able to bring myself to finish it.

I didn't entirely understand it
13 November 2021
The acting performances were clearly great and it kept me watching all the way through but I didn't entirely understand what was happening. The dialogue was hard to follow at times, which meant I missed some of the plot and had to look it up part way through the film. I'm glad I watched it as it intrigued me but wouldn't watch it again.

The music ruined it for me
25 October 2021
I love a good vintage horror and I can see this had the bones of something I would ordinarily like but the music and sounds in general just made this irritating rather than creepy and suspenseful. The music just seemed really jarring and annoying. Repetitive loud noises had me turning the volume right down then missing the dialogue as it was too quiet. I found the soundtrack didn't seem to fit what was happening on screen most of time which made the film harder to follow than it should have.

What on Earth did I just watch?!
25 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
One of the poorest films I've seen yet I gave it 2 stars as I couldn't stop watching. Every scene was weirder than the previous one. The story is disjointed but has a sort of comedy/drama running through it. Rape, incest, bears, suicide...weirdly decent acting performances but the plot... oh boy.

One of the worst films I've ever seen
28 July 2021
It's disjointed, outdated (even in 2010), misogynistic and ridiculous. I gave it 2 stars purely for Jack Nicholson's last performance and Paul Rudd. I'd literally watch Rudd in anything but this pushed it.
