Coriolanus (2011)
Great potential lost in translation
I love the modern takes on Shakespearean plays , but this was really hard work , i'm sorry the original dialogue just doesn't fit, it's far to wordy for modern audiences , Should have been a very relevant film for the recent financial troubles in Europe and great powerful performances from Ralph Fiennes and Gerard Butler, along with superb action sequences and cameos from various actors did make me want to stay till the end , but i couldn't and for only the second time in my life walked out an hour in , along with others at the same showing , I have no doubt some that know the story will love this . but a very Limited audience i'm afraid .
Stardust (2007)
Village Boy has to collect a falling star to win his loves heart but finds true love along the way
This is one of the best films i have seen in years , a magical excellently written ,fairy type tale that has good performances from all the cast , with just the right amount of humour to lift the whole film , and make it special . Most of the well known faces play supporting but perfectly cast parts that you really believe in . There are quite a few UK cameos that you have to work hard to spot , worth every bit of the ticket price .
I have to say this should have been released at Christmas as it would be the perfect night out with the children , or with a partner , don't miss this on the big screen as it makes it more special .
Hot Fuzz (2007)
hot cop brings mayhem to sleepy somerset town
I live close to where this was filmed , so i went with interest with my teen daughter to watch this film , What can i say other than this is the best and funniest film i have seen in a long while .as did most of the audience i was with at the time , and well worth the ticket price.
Anyone who lives in a small market town will instantly recognise the different characters (which make it believable), Loads of parody from the action cop films and kung foo type films , just the right amount of gore to make the point , and an all star Brit cast , loved the jaws(James bond)character. To add, See this film in a cinema , not on a market copy as you will miss the effects and the small things that make it great . well done .
RV (2006)
family man Williams , needs to get to a meeting to keep his job , and bond with his kids , and takes his family on a recreational vehicle holiday
A great film if you enjoyed the Chevy chase /national vacation movies. I watched this today with all the family and we all loved it , yes!it has a predictable plot . instead of going to Hawaii for a summer holiday ,A typical suburban middle class family , cross the USA in a RV (recreational vehicle )driven by Williams trying to keep his job and bond with his kids before its to late and they are all grown up , but loads of belly laughs any family with similar aged children (15 , 13)to the film ,can understand .Robin Williams puts in his usual funny performance backed up by believable supporting characters in laugh-out loud, and funny toe curling moments , most of the jokes worked well and you will finish watching with a smile on your face
Don't be put off by the negative comments and see it soon !
