Family Guy: Partial Terms of Endearment (2010)
Did the writer's have an epiphany on this one?
I've been having quite a struggle enjoying recent "Family Guy" episodes due to the fact that the plots seemed to get successively lamer. That was until I saw "Partial Terms of Endearment". Wow! This is one for my media ethics class. Seriously, the episode is really funny, inspirational and well written. In my humble opinion the Pro-Life/Pro-Choice question is a really difficult one to answer and I feel that this episode deals with the issue in a very lighthearted but somewhat respectful way. Even if you don't want to ponder on the subject and simply want to be entertained, this is by far one of the best "Family Guy" episodes that has come out in a while. Controversial, yes. Frikkin' funny? Hell yeah!
Cloverfield (2008)
Gojira & Blair Witch Project mated. Their retarded son is named:Cloverfield!
First and foremost, even though there is a sign posted up in every cinema: DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE IF YOU SUFFER FROM MOTION SICKNESS!!! The guy next to me threw up and missed my shoes by an inch.
Well, in film school they teach us to always start a review with the positive aspects of a movie, so here goes:
The film sets are amazing, the camera work is quite authentic and the movie is based on a nice idea...uh,...uh,...that's it I guess.
This movie suffers from to many flaws to be considered good. I simply cannot explain to myself how this piece of work can receive a 7.9. I guess a smart marketing campaign does suffice as a substitute for a good plot. Actually I just named it: This movie has no plot! But even that could be forgiven as there are tons of movies without a plot that still have something to them. The most annoying part about this piece of work is the fact that the characters are simply aggravating! As they pass away during the course of the movie, all one can think of is: Meh. I couldn't care less. No sympathy. The motivation for their stupendously foolish way of action is just too unrealistic. And yes, I know that this is not supposed to be a drama so character development is not a priority. But this?!? There's porn with smarter characters out there! I left the movie feeling as if this movie was simply made to take the mickey out of the audience. I really wanted the wasted one and a half hours of my life back. To make matters worse there is no sense to the whole thing whatsoever. It feels like one of those typical "come watch the sequel for answers"-movies.
As I could go on like this forever, let me just finish my rant by saying this: If you liked "Cloverfield", good for you. I also have some crappy movies I love. But that's the point: I know that they are crappy movies! So please enjoy this film if you will, but stop acting like it was really good!
Korgoth of Barbaria (2006)
This is it!!!
Korgoth of Barbaria!!! Ever since having watched "The Barbarians" (1987) -an admittedly poor movie- as a kid, I have been on the seemingly never-ending quest for some at least equally good barbarian entertainment. Just by chance I heard of an adult cartoon named "Korgoth of Barbaria" in which Genndy Tartakovsky (Whom I highly venerate since "Dexter's Laboratory") is involved. And now, finally, after years of searching I have found The ultimate barbarian!!!
Korgoth is the most entertaining action cartoon ever! It contains over-the-top violence that is tamed by the never missing hilarious humor of the series. I could hardly stop laughing when I saw the prime episode for the first time. It is just so funny. I actually watched it four times in a row because I could just not believe that I was actually watching the cartoon I've been dreaming about since I was a kid. But do not be mistaken. This is definitely not a cartoon for children. It is one though for grown-ups who are still in touch with their inner child. If you appreciate some good adult entertainment, you're in for one hell of ride.
