Epidemiya (2019)
Best post-apocalypse series in a long time
Wow... I'm really flabbergasted. In the middle of the series I already gave 8 stars, but now for the final the whole thing gets full points from me. Small tip: Watch in OV and subtitles! Why is the series so cool?
- Direct bonus: Russian series. Small blemishes should be forgiven here. Had already not expected so much - was then surprisingly completely picked up.
- The suspense is maintained! Every episode I felt well entertained & was curious how it would go on.
- The plots are on the one hand completely predictable in some cases, because it's just human - acts of fear, hunger, anger, etc.. It's not easy to maintain being human in an apocalyptic epidemic. Other behaviors surprise you and are not as predictable - as they are in other lame apocalypse series - cue Walking Dead.
- It's the right dose of emotion in my opinion.
- The conflicts they have are quite realistic - it's about mundane things - food, a roof over your head, keeping warm, gas for the car - all not survivalists of course - all normal people - that's the appeal!
- For everything I said - yes sometimes vll. something overdosed - BUT Russian production, turns a blind eye ;)
- The constellation of the survival group is great! Simply two families - done. So it would probably be in real life. More is not to be managed.
- I like the actors. Sure one or the other character is annoying, but that's normal. I get along with all of them very well and like the Russian way.
- The finale is crass! You move with the family all the time, you always have to deal with the current, small problems... The own survival stands in the first place. What is actually going on in the country does not shine through... The impact of the epidemic is unclear. In the finale you get a taste of what is actually going on and yes its insane haha
MEGA LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT SEASON! I hope Netflix produces the second!
Luther (2010)
Biggest disappointment in 2020. Even worse than Corona.
How the hell did this series get such a high ranking. Jesus. I'm stunned.
This series is so bad - on all levels. Dialogue, acting, storytelling. What bothers me most is how profoundly stupid and unrealistic some scenes are. The inspector becomes best buddy with a killer. He lets her terrorize his whole family. Some Dude shoots several policemen dead and blows up a whole task force... Chief of police totally caught, gives a cool casual speech first. Everybody is a bit annoyed, but the show must go on. There were only about 20 colleagues who were killed by ONE person... in England! Everything in this series is annoying. I gave the second episode another chance. In vain. It is to tear hair out.
Sputnik (2020)
Chapeau to the russians
I was quiet amused of this movie. there is a interesting development in the characters and a alarming tension all the time. Of course, there are some annoying scenes. in the last 30 Minutes the story seems to go nowhere. BUT its still a RUSSIAN SCIFI - you have to remind yourself about that fact! and with a budget of only 2,6 Million US$ really lovely! also i liked the final ending with a nice little revelation, you almost forgot about.
I watched in OV - russian language with subtitles for the flair! Liked that too
Avanpost (2019)
no expectations, big surprise
I finished only the third episode, but im triggered to write a review, cause im quiet amused of this series and also kind of amazed. its a russian production - and yes - its no hollywood blockbuster, but wow, i really like this!!!! The series is really an entertaining, good scifi jewel. At some corners maybe a bit rough, but still respectable. Something different - and if you lower your expectations and turn a blind eye here and there, you will get a great scifi movie with a respectable story. its a solid 7 from my side.
In short - what is it about???
tiny (copeable) spoiler: the whole world becomes silent, except Moscow and its border district. Everybody seems to be dead everywhere... 7 billion people, leaving 50 million with the big question - what the hell happened. Nobody has a plan. The military is sent out on a reconnaissance tour, but again and again troop battalions disappear without a trace - the first outpost in the quarantine zone was successfully established. From there, the military will go on a reconnaissance tour... everything is pretty crazy, because nobody really has a plan what's going on here... and also super funny, this event. And in Moscow, people are a little bit crazy... understandably. It actually takes an exciting course... again and again there are little aha-effects - but not too much, so that the suspense remains. I'm looking forward to the next episodes - but I'd like to recommend them now.
