Syakeu: Deo bigining (2021)
Read the webtoon, before I watched the film.
When introducing our protagonist and antagonist in the school, I was a bit skeptical on watching the rest of the movie as I believed they had cut an impactive interaction. Now not to say I wanted every single detail from the webtoon to be transferred onto the big screen. But from my perspective it gave our main character depth and made him more relatable,(spoiler from webtoon) when he had instead lost the plot and grabbed the pen, with the intention of ending his bullies life due to all the pent up frustration. Catching the skillful boxer offguard as he underestimated him for just a moment. Rather than our antagonist encouraging him to do so, in order to showcase psychopathic tendencies.
The bromance between our prisoners were quite rushed, which is understandable trying to not get too invested in the relationships and forgetting the plot. And something else I missed not being able to see, was the technical dynamics between the different fighting styles and how to find loop holes when on defense and offense against various opponents.
If you enjoyed the karate kid series you may enjoy the film, and our main leads did a good job in portraying their characters. Makes you forget the supporting co-stars mediocre acting, well besides Min Seoks prison friend.
Kyô Samurai Musashi (2020)
Difficult to watch
I went into it hoping to see some great strategic planning from either the protagonist or antagonist, and unleash all sorts of great battles to go down in history. I felt a little let down though on both the storyline and the cinematography. Had the experience where it was like watching some film project some teenagers came up within an hour. There were several scenes where the main character could of been taken down, but the opportunity wasn't taken because it would of seemed unfair due to handicapped fight.
