Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission (2019)
Just no
The first Super Dragon Ball Heroes was very, very bad. Well, this one delivers exactly the same experience.
Brainless scenario, useless and flavorless characters that appear out of nowhere (and disappear as well without reason). Every scene flows after the next without any sense of transition. This is basically a compilation of situations without any storyline to put it all together.
Like the previous movies, fights are a joke, techniques are stupid, poorly executed and a pain to watch. Power levels between fighters are totally absurd...
Like the first movie, I would strongly recommend against watching this. You will waste 2 hours and it will damage your overall opinion on Dragon Ball.
Super Dragon Ball Heroes (2018)
Abyssmal...
Pick most of the strongest living heroes in the DB/DBS universe, resurrect a few more or less iconic enemies, add some random dudes with a very shady and lazy design. Then mix all that with static animation of poor drawings (except the Goku vs Heart fight which is actually not bad) and you have it. A fan service animation product aimed at those that do not have a minimum standard in terms of Dragon Ball movies.
There is no story at all, just a succession of nonsense situations and dumb decisions. Everything is just a stupid accumulation of opportunities for characters to throw fists at each other and include more dubious techniques and transformations.
Avoid, you'll feel dirty after watching this...
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
After Boba Fett, be ready for another disaster
Bad plot, uninteresting characters, full of clichés... No finesse... You basically know what is going to happen (who is going to die, who is going to do a stupid mistake at a critical moment...)
The worst part is probably every scene with child Leïa which are all ridiculous. She spends her time running away and being chased by villains. But she literally runs at 2km/h, which is event more ridiculous when you see that a bunch of grown ups struggle so much catching her. On top of this, the way the character is written is very annoying, somewhere between the spoiled brat and the wunderkid.
Some of the special effects seem on the low budget side which feels abnormal for a Star War franchise.
After the Mandalorian that I sincerely enjoyed, those are 2 misses in a row for Disney...
The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
Not the Boba Fett you want
Boba Fett is a bounty hunter, a mercenary. If you saw him in the movies, you expect a bad guy.
Sadly here it seems that Disney could not afford having a bad guy as a hero. As a result, this is the story of a guy looking for redemption and basically "always doing the nicest possible thing". And this is what is fundamentally bothering in this series.
On top of this, many action scenes are very bad (the car chase with the mayor's assistant is ridiculous). Some characters feel useless and totally out of the Star Wars universe (like the band of colorful flying vespa pirates)...
My overall feeling is that Disney wanted to turn this into a family thing too much and somehow lost everything that made the essence of the Star Wars universe.
City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes (2019)
Excess of fan service does not help
This review will make more sense if you have been a City Hunter fan for a long time.
All this movie is about sending you back to what City Hunter used to be by pulling all the strings you already know from the series:
- All the situations are too familiar (litterally everything is predictable, from what is going to happen to what the characters are going to say). Love hotel scene, naked bar scene, shower scene, rooftop scene... ask it, you'll have it.
- The soundtrack reuses old (and great) pieces but in awkward moments. They seem forced on you. Some are also cut in a weird way. The few new musics are very bad and do not fit.
- When you see Cat's Eye as a guest, you have expectations. Well, don't. Besides being a taxi for a couple of minutes and putting Umibozu in a "ridiculous Vegeta moment" they are useless...
- The robotic and technology flavor makes the lack of a decent bad guy more obvious. Fighting an army of clone robots was disappointing. Even the "cute" robot was a bother, but I guess every story needs its annoying Jar Jar Binks now...
... There are so many things to say about what went wrong here including CGI that does not blend in, some of the drawings and animation that are not up to standard for a "movie" format...
In short, this movie was a lazy attempt to surf on a long and excellent franchise by forcing ALL of the tricks from the series in 90 minutes. It felt really sad. I cannot recommend this to anyone...
