Mr. Church (2016)
Eddie Murphy's tour deforce
How perverse we Americans have become.
This movie belongs on the best movie of the year nomination, at least.
Polar (2019)
Super campy with a good old fashioned story!
Has some plots holes.
All flicks like this do, and are usually addressed in sequels. This stand alone picture has a truly interesting story with a twist. The young assassins are technically skilled, however, just like real life, they are clueless in "real" life.
The hero "the black kaiser" unlike these skilled "snowflakes" has their skillsey and "panache" and eats them for breakfast.
Enjoy great fun flick with an intelligent story line.
Come Back, Little Sheba (1952)
Shirley Booth won the Tony and the oscar for her portrayal. Burt was great too!
Hard to say too much to laud this movie. It plays much like a Broadway play and is lovely on film.
If you only have a vague remembrance of Shirley Booth as the domestic Hazel in the early TV comedy, then you don't know her well.
Terrific story, great acting and a very intricate story woven by masters of screenplay.
Revel in the classics so you can demand better of today's entertainment fare.
Seven Days in May (1964)
Wow a classic! Kids from the sixties Shakespierre equivalent
Recently bought and re watched this film with my family.
Now in my sixties I saw this picture in reruns of good old TV. You know the good old 5-7 broadcast channels. Long before 500 channel cable packages, those channels produced much of the finest drama and entertainment in general than the huge majority of venues today.
Spend the time reacquaint yourself with the greats it will amaze you.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015)
I cried, then I remembered i wasn't a teen anymore.
This is assuredly partially my fault. As a child I looked at life through child's eyes.
I loved UNCLE as a kid and then I recently watched the original TV shows and WOW, did they disappoint,Oh yeah!
This movie essentially is as vacuous that the TV show was.
America is devoid of creativity, proves it!
Prometheus (2012)
I feel like i felt when I learned Santa wasn't real.
This was very poorly done. Guy Pearce and Theron phoned in their roles. The story premise had real potential, then al la European movies leaves the motivations a mystery to the viewer. This has no place in classic sci fi.
Fact based assumptions and potential outcomes are the film makers responsibility. Ridley must have phoned in his work as well. Idris Elba very talented Brit uses a ghetto voice? Really what the heck? Even the elongated shooting techniques left me cold because they only work to exaggerate an already taut script, which this by no mean was.
The ending was a throw in so the Alien movie stands in continuum. Of course based on this movie to what end is it to travel to their home planet? The humanoid awakened in the movie had the personality of the Howard Hawks the thing from the 50's movie. The disdain and brutality towards humans will be only magnified on their home planet after killing their emissary. Leave little to discuss.
