Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010)
Why 3D?
I have seen all the Resident Evil movies and I must say, I love them. I am, however very disappointed that they made this movie in 3D. I have had may friends explain movies to me because I cannot see them. I have epilepsy and cannot see 3D movies for fear that I may cause panic for other moviegoers. Would you like to be in a theater and see someone have a fit and ruin the movie for you? I didn't think so. This 3D craze has ruined the theater experience for me, and my husband and I go to the theater often. I have seen 3D movies in 2D and the quality is terrible. I know I am in the 1% of people effected by this, but I see a ton of movies, and that list, I fear, is shrinking. I hate to think that all movies will soon be in 3D and I'll be left out in the cold.
King of California (2007)
Interesting movie
I must admit, this movie is far removed from my usual liking of zombies and serial killers. I do not understand why so many people do not like it. One has to ask, after losing her home, then her father, how and why did a 17 year old come up with the money to buy a dishwasher she so desperately wanted for a house she no longer has? Let us go back to a small scene in which her father had given her her own credit card in her name. Why would he do that you suppose? The methodology was simplistic and brilliant at the same time, and was most likely overlooked by many viewers. The heart wrenching scene at the near end of the father tying her to the soda machines and telling her how important she was and what she meant to him was beautiful. Then we see him cautiously running from rack to rack with a small plastic container, empty at first, then heavy and rattling on the way back. Then he dives back into the hole to go after the rest of the gold. This is where most people have trouble. First, the rushing water. Rushing water is moving water and therefore has to empty out somewhere. It just doesn't stop. After realizing he cannot go back the way he came he follows the flow of water and comes to a light ahead but it is too narrow and he cannot cross it with his tanks. He removes them and swims up. Remember the dream of the naked Chinese men? What does his daughter come across on the beach? What empties into the ocean? He lives. The director leaves the outcome up to interpretation, but I must believe that he lives given the small clues and the character's ability to see the outcome.
Queensrÿche: Video Mindcrime (1989)
The Most Awesome Rock Opera Ever
Although technically not an Opera, (as there are speaking parts) this was by far the best rock story since Tommy. The music is inspiring, the lyrics tell a great story and it should be made into a full length film. The story is twisted and really makes you think about society as a whole. The characters are all in themselves compelling and draw you in, weather you want them to or not. It is very easy to relate to any of them. Just the fact that you know this has or could go on somewhere is disturbing. The drugs used as a mind control and the things they do to to Nikki are sick. From the moment I saw it I wanted it. Now I'm on the search for a DVD copy. It would make my top ten of "Scarry Movies" and would be put in rotation.
You guys are great. I cannot wait for the next installment.
Rest Stop (2006)
As a first film... it's not too bad.
Okay, I kinda agree that some things are off. However, for a first time film company, they did good. I have seen many a movie that are not worth the "video" they are made on. At least this one is on film. The scares and violence were predictable, but well done. If you only focused on the things this girl "should have done" you robbed yourself of a good horror movie. Yeah, I came up with things I would have done different, but hey, I wasn't there now, was I? Would I have gotten on the CB and changed it to channel 19 or 3 instead of leaving it on the channel they had, yes. Would I have started walking when I thought my old man ditched me, yes, and I would have stayed off the road. Horror is getting hard to find people, and this one was pretty damn good.
Session 9 (2001)
Pure Psych
This movie scared the life out of me. I have seen it so many times I can almost quote it line for line. The movie is brilliant, incredibly well written, and creepy. If you're going to get a good thriller movie for a cold, dark night, this would be perfect. The audio is off-putting to a point where you won't be able to get it out of your head. Make no mistake, It will haunt you. You'll never see a more creepy place than Danvers. It DID exist as a mental hospital, and they did use the real location for shooting the film. Peter "Gordan" Mullan is an amazing actor who not only commits to the part, he is the movie. The casting was perfect, and I would change NOTHING. An absolute must own movie.
