The Devil's Hour (2022)
Loved it
I thoroughly enjoyed this show.
The only disappointment was the very ending. I was crying, I expected a different ending, probably hoping for a different ending, where the Isaac's final demise really hit home for Isaac's mother, but instead she dies relatively quickly as well.
The final ending with was not unexpected though, but I would've liked the emotional impact of the final scenes of Isaac and his mother to be extended so as to be fully experienced. Possibly by inserting another segment of the mother in the interrogation room to let the emotions of the loss of her son run for a while for the viewer. I would have liked Isaac's last phone call, "My dad made me cold," to have been fleshed out a little bit more, putting the father in the hot-seat. And then her death and the reveal of her new life can resume after that - after the viewer has had a good cry.
But that is the only negative I could come up with. I couldn't finish my cry properly. Yeah, that's just me.
Gracepoint (2014)
Watch Broadchurch instead
Broadchurch was much better (For comparison, I gave it 9 stars). The acting was so much better in Broadchurch, and the pace seemed rushed in that it took one season in Gracepoint compared to two seasons in Broadchurch for this story line. Even though it took two seasons, it was still more exciting and suspenseful.
Edit: Okay, I've just realized the second season of Broadchurch was the court case, which in itself was fantastic, and also that there were evidently less episodes in the Broadchurch. Even so, Gracepoint seemed rushed and less nuanced on character development. Broadchurch managed to make us fall in love with the characters. As as the accents pointed out in other reviews I found it didn't make any difference to it - but then again, I'm neither Canadian, American or British.
