Hold the Pass (2020)
More like this please...
Hold the Pass is the first film produced by Gibborim Studios and focuses on the life of Shamgar whos exploits are largely contained in one biblical verse (Judges 3:31). The films provides some probable context to help tell the story as the biblical text basically highlights the number of enemies slain by the hero and not much else.
The films takes place in a pass which Shamgar has decided for the sake of his family, to make his stand in. With very little dialoged the film draws some stark contrasts such as the pagan vs biblical faith, godly vs evil sacrifice, beautiful vs vain womanhood, etc. This is all very well done, and again, largely without anything being spoken.
Shamgar is quickly put on the run by the large enemy army and is almost routed all the way to his home, but God had other plans. What follows is one of the best depictions of a commission by God's Spirit put to film and results in a rapid change in direction for the film. With this new covering of God, or power you might say, Shamgar quickly start dispatching his enemies. The film results in the victory of Shamgar over 600 or more Philistines.
This is a fantastic take on the biblical hero!
