Leverage: Redemption (2021)
Major Falloff from the Original
As a fan of the original "Leverage" series, I had high hopes for "Leverage Redemption," but unfortunately, it falls far short of the mark. The show attempts to revive the beloved team of skilled con artists, but it lacks the charm, wit, and cleverness that made the original so engaging.
First and foremost, the casting choices for the reboot are questionable at best. The chemistry among the new team members feels forced and lacks the natural camaraderie that the original cast effortlessly portrayed. The new characters are bland and lack the depth and complexity of their predecessors. The dynamic that made the original team so compelling is missing, from losing the gravitas of Hutton over embarrassingly specious rationale, to the massive whiff in casting the hideously off-putting and untalented Aleyse Shannon, to indulging in wokified scripts... it feels like a poor attempt to recapture the magic.
The writing is a major letdown. The show fails to capture the clever and intricate cons that were a hallmark of the original series. The schemes in "Leverage Redemption" are predictable, lack originality, and lack the intricate planning and execution that made the original so captivating. The dialogue is lackluster and lacks the sharp wit and banter that was a highlight of the original show. It feels as though the writers have run out of ideas and are recycling tired plotlines.
Another major disappointment is the overall tone of the series. While the original had a perfect balance of lightheartedness and drama, "Leverage Redemption" leans too heavily towards comedy, sacrificing the tension and suspense that made the cons thrilling. The show feels more like a sitcom rather than a sophisticated heist drama, and it fails to capture the essence of what made the original so unique.
Lastly, the pacing of the episodes is inconsistent. Some episodes drag on with unnecessary filler, while others feel rushed and lack proper development. It's clear that the show is struggling to find its footing and establish a consistent flow.
"Leverage Redemption" is a disappointing remake that fails to capture the magic of the original series. The weak casting choices, lackluster writing, and tonal imbalance all contribute to a subpar viewing experience. If you're a fan of the original "Leverage," I would suggest revisiting the original series rather than wasting your time on this lackluster reboot.
Schitt$ Creek (2015)
Might Be The Worst Show I've Ever Watched
Truly struggled through the pilot episode and have no intention of further masochism. Characters are just so one-dimensional and inaccessible. The casting feels like an exercise in purposefully repellent chemistry and the premise of the show just has no depth or draw.
How this got beyond a pitch on paper is seriously beyond comprehension. Just top to bottom, BAD TV.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: He Said, She Said (2019)
Hilariously Bad Episode, Maybe The Worst
Beatriz did a terrible job and the writers should likely toss on some nikes, and slam kool aid.
