Halloween Ends (2022)
Disrespectful and cowardly ending
Unbelievable. If you are a fan of the saga, you will not enjoy this movie. An ending as cowardly and disrespectful as Resurrection was.
This trilogy did something, really, that hasn't been done so far with others (Nightmare, Friday, Childs Play, etc.): it brought back the '78 villain, with all the characteristics of Michael Myers, and made him scary again. At least in the first one (2018). Unlike many, I enjoyed Kills. We saw a brutal Michael, pissed off and on the loose in the streets; moreover, that movie promised a few things: a possible supernatural response to Michael's physical "immortality"; what did Michael see through the window?; and the 78 flashback, which, for me, was excellent.
However, money always speaks louder than any affection, respect, courage towards the movies and the fans. What was done in Ends is nothing more and nothing less than a cowardly exit to guarantee future sequels - which clearly won't work. Everything that was punctuated and promised in Kills is absolutely ignored and forgotten here. What is given to us, disguised as a "deep and reflective idea about trauma and violence", is the cowardice of the writers, directors and producers in the form of an extremely poorly executed, poorly edited and poorly produced film. The entire movie is an argument to try to convince fans that the Halloween series can go on in different ways; and no, it cannot. It can't, and the long-awaited finale just doesn't happen (or does, extremely poorly constructed in the last 20 minutes), and still manages to take away any merit that Halloween Kills had. In some way, it felt like Halloween III: Season of the Witch. Is it possible that directors don't learn from a mistake made 40 years ago?
Disappointment, disrespect and cowardice sum up what this film is all about. We already know what to expect from the "new trilogy" The Exorcist. I recommend you watch it from home, and don't pay to watch it.
Dashcam (2021)
The worst thing I've seen so far
I've seen a lot of bad movies, and not just american ones. This is beyond words. Absolutely everything is terrible. I refuse to waste any more of my time on this. Skip this one, for everyone's sake. Awful, just awful.
Ambulance (2022)
Michael Bay did not grow up. Terrible.
Its hard to describe how tedious and awful this movie is. It is probably the most boring action movie I have ever seen. You need a profound capacity to not use your brain to see this movie.
I'll try to break it down:
- it looks and feels like a 2004 movie; the director tries (and fails) to subvert some horrible traditions in action movies (like making the white guy die, and making the black guy as the hero). However, throughout the movie, EVERY POSSIBLE stereotype that have been continuously deconstructed is present ("that's the whitest thing Ive ever heard" - said a white woman to a white guy; "Papi" and "Jesus" as latino characters; the only gay guy in the movie is horribly represented - in therapy and complaining).
- The shooting is awful. Terrible camera movements that only makes the action scenes more boring. Its a 2 hour movie that feels like 5 hours.
- This movie is the representation of the "american idiot". Why remake a movie to do THIS? It's the same thing with the movie "The Guilty" (also with Jake Gyllenhaal, who in both remakes is hysterical, screaming and out of control - what the hell is happening?). Every single scene is so cheesy and forced on us - specially in the end.
Basically, is a very stupid typical american brainless movie. See the original and pass this one.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
The most predictable movie you'll ever see
That's it. You will for sure know who the killer is within the first 10 minutes. You'll also be able to know every line that'll be used in the final "twist" (those classic endings for Saw movies).
Terrible acting from absolutely everyone in this movie. The deaths were okay, but did not seem deaths like you'd hope to see in a Saw movie (or "from its book").
Pass this one.
