The Sopranos: Made in America (2007)
Just a small town girl
My personal favourite television finale. The episode says so much about everything in this series with very little. Meadow moving into a law career with her parent's disappointment, AJ deciding to fight in Iraq but them changing his mind, Sils Coma, Bobbys funeral, Juniors dementia becoming even worst, and Paulie sitting all alone on Satriele's. This episode really shows that whether Tony dies or not, it doesn't matter . He really has nothing left. Even though Tony won in his war with the Lapartazzis it doesn't matter because his glorified crew is almost gone, and his children will pretty much pursue in life in organized crime in some way or another. David Chase had made a great point about people wanting to know whether Tony is killed, arrested, or lives the diner alive. His power as a mob boss is gone and he has grown to become a much mire terrible person by the end of the series. The title of this episode "Made in America," is fitting because it shows that in the United States everything was falling apart, whether is what Bush's War on Terror or the collapsing economy, much like Tony's organized crime business.
The Sopranos: Walk Like a Man (2007)
One of the best in the series
Much like Join the Club, Walk Like a Man has some of the best moments in this series. Mainly a Christopher centric episode and very important. We see just how distraught he has become with Tony and how there relationship has fallen apart. Tony realizes that Christoper despises him and confesses to Melfi how disappointed he is. A truly sad moment because throughout this series Tony has done so much to show that he did at one point care for Christopher. Whether it was back in Season 2 where he killed Matthew B for shooting Christopher or somewhat helping Christopher recover from his drug addiction. Even im The Rude we see the bound these two characters have with each other and when the steal from a liquor robbery and have a fun night out with each other. Despite that Christopher and Tony fail to reconnect over that moment showing that their relationship will never be the same. The moments where Paulie jokes about Chrissys daughter was one of the saddest moments in the series as christopher looks around and see that the people he has spent his entire life with have never actually cared for him. Despite Christopher being an awful person there is without a doubt some sympathy the audience has for him. This episode displays that perfectly.
The Sopranos: Join the Club (2006)
Needs more praise
I find it surprising how this episode has only a 8.7/10 score considering it is perhaps one of the best in the series. After Junior shoots Tony and Tony is set in a coma in the hospital with many unsure whether he will live or die. Even though the audience knows Tony will likely survive the emotions of the characters really shows how intense this scenario really is. The acting from every cast member is amazing. The Kevin Finnerty dreams where incredible and shows what Tony would be like if choose a different path than the mob world. In this he seems much different than the Tony we know in the series. His heavy New Jersey Italian accent is gone and he's a legitimate businessman with a loving wife and family. One of the deepest and saddest episodes in the series but one of the greatest ever produced.
The Sopranos: Long Term Parking (2004)
The nest episode in the series
I find it interesting how Pine Barrens is often referred to as the best in the series. Don't get wrong, the episode is a masterpiece. But its episodes like Long Term Parking which really stand out for me in the series. All the performances in this episode are brilliant. Its intense as it already established that the New York Mafia is looking for Tony's cousin for murdering Billy Leotardo. Already creating brilliant tension between Tony and New York and Tony contemplating whether he should let Tony B go. Then we have the finale to Adrianas story. Drea De Matteo's performance cannot be understated. She deserves all the awards and praise she got in this episode. For me this is the perfect Sopranos episode. It has the thrilling drama and twists. The scene where Silvio kills Aid shows the cruelty and evil of the mafia and Tony himself. I think by the final seasons of this show we see Tony's true colors. And this episode is very much like a shot to the bullet. You don't see it coming bit when it happens you're left stunned.
