Road House (2024)
Worth watching for Jake Gyllenhaal
Entertaining enough for a night in but lacks a lot compared to the original.
The movie feels rushed as they try to cram too many unnecessary plot twists in with several characters barely more than extras leaving you wondering what what the point in them being there. Jake Gyllenhaal really saves this movie from being a waste of time, even with a thin plot and some random actions from his character he carries the movie and the fight scenes are fun to watch.
There is zero chemistry between Dalton and the doc / nurse, the drug kingpin is about as scary as Pugsley from the Addams family and Conner McGregor looks unhinged and ridiculously over the top, which may just be his natural state.
They could easily have cut pointless scenes (e.g shaving on a yacht!) and give more screen time to fewer characters to bring the movie together e.g Hannah Love Lanier does a lot with her few lines and is memorable, likeable and has a believable connection with Dalton.. maybe her character could have been older for the love interest part.
SAS: Red Notice (2021)
Avoid !
I was really looking forward to this movie, but the terrible script and wooden, amateurish acting ruined it. Tom Wilkinson had the right idea - he couldn't leave fast enough and I wish I'd done the same.
What were they thinking ??
You don't just need to suspend reality if you watch this, you need to drop your IQ to sub 50 as the 'hero' kicks in an outward opening door... waits for the baddies to arrive on their Thomas the Tank style Fire engines ... sits on top of a train talking in French to a 10 year old girl about his girlfriend whilst the hijackers look for them (let's not worry about getting her to safety, much more important to practice his schoolboy French) ... and on it goes. I'd have given 2 stars if Andy Serkis had shot the PM in the head at the start.
High scores are from Sam Heughan's drooling fans only.
Little Monsters (2019)
Easy to watch
Whilst this has many children in the cast this is clearly for adults.
The quirky comedic story of two adults trying to keep a kindergarten class safe on a school trip when a zombie outbreak occurs at a nearby army base
The teacher, played by Lupita Nyong'o steals the show, with the uncle of one of the children becoming an easily likeable character as the movie progresses.
Throw into the mix the horrible children's entertainer to stop the story becoming too cutesy with sweet singalongs and the film is an easy distraction for an evening.
Who wouldn't have wanted Miss Caroline as their teacher
No need to overthink this .. relax and enjoy
