Mithya (2008)
Fantabulous
A movie that showcases the coming of age of Indian cinema. We've had a lot of movies of late that signify a promising future (Dil Chahta Hai, Bheja Fry, Rang De Basanti), and this one carries forward the future of Bollywood. Directed beautifully by Rajat Kapoor (who was also involved with Bheja Fry), this movie is all you want a movie to be- Crisp storyline, brilliant acting, entertaining dialogues, and riveting as a whole. Ranvir Shorey revels in the lead role, very smoothly fitting into the roles of V.K. the actor and Raje the Don, and he gets even better when he's playing both the roles in the same body! He is truly a great actor, and if this is the direction Bollywood chooses to take, then he will be at the helm of it. Vinay Pathak as usual gives a dedicated performance, funny with the tinge of darkness. His buddy (dunno his name) is also fantastic, and his dialogue delivery and accent are hilarious. Neha Dhupia excels at looking hot. Naseeruddin Shah doesn't have much of a role, and in the later stages, his character was overshadowed (in the story itself, and in screen presence too) by Saurabh Shukla. The locales are wonderful. The background score is perfect for the movie. The absence of songs pleases you. All in all, an excellent experience, and the last line of the movie makes you realise, that its not just a dark comedy. Go watch it!
Snatch (2000)
Brilliant!
Perfect! I have seen this movie about 7 times completely, and seen particular scenes umpteen times. You cannot get tired watching it over and over again. The acting is flawless. The direction is superb. And the story ... Fits in like a jigsaw puzzle. Benicio del Toro deserved a longer role, but was brilliant in the short one that he did get. Brad Pitt, Jason Statham, Vinnie Jones, ... Everyone rocked the show! The scene in the bar with Vinnie Jones and the three masked blacks was THE SCENE of the movie. Vinnie Jones did a similar role to the one in LSATSB but gives it a new freshness that doesn't let you get bored of him. Brad Pitt really impressed with the Pikey accent. Way to go Guy Ritchie. As long as you keep making movies without your silly wife in them, people shall love to watch them.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
The Harry Potter Series just keeps getting worse
I really find it hard to believe that at the moment i am writing these comments, this awful film has managed to get an average vote of 7.8!! When i watched this flick, i had already gone through three really sad movies (the first three of this series of course) though the first one, The Philosopher's Stone wasn't all that bad. But The Goblet of Fire takes the series down the drain, completely. In an age where special effects are seen in every second film, i really wanted more in this movie than the special effects. The book had so much more to offer, and in the hands of a better director, this movie would have had so much more to offer. But instead, what the viewer is given is a back of the cover summary of the book. For some stupid reason, the entire World Cup match isn't shown in the movie, and all of a sudden (after some crap at Hogwarts), we have the three stages of the contest with nothing really filling up between each stage. Alright, the one star that i have given is for the climax of the movie, where Voldemort really is well depicted and enacted. But hey, if i wanted to see a special effects movie, there's loads of better movies out there, with much better story lines. At the end of it, i really am not going to wait for any of the remaining movies of the series. They're gonna be right down there.
