Goodbye, Petrushka (2022)
Profound, quirky and memorable!
I used to be into indie films 10 years ago, but career took me away from cinema for a while. Watching Goodbye, Petrushka took me back to my youthful days in Paris. I absolutely loved it. The cast was perfect and genuine. The soundtrack very quirky and commensurate with the indie genre. The combination of NYC and Paris works very nicely, and will appeal to both American and European audiences. There is a distinct commedia dell'arte set of interactions and plots that balance the lighthearted with the profound, and it works perfectly. I have not enjoyed a movie this much in a long time. Perfect .
On Chesil Beach (2017)
Stylish
Saw this at the London Film Festival. Saoirse Ronan and Billy Howle enter the perilous territory of marriage in a slow, sleek coming-of-age story adapted from Ian McEwan's 2007 novel. I found the cinematography to be superb, the play of colours very well done in accordance to the mood. I wish there had been more development near the end, but the film was sufficiently beguiling to give it a 7/10.
