I want to read the original Melville now
15 March 2009
I agree with "johnlewis", who said that there is a lot going on between the lines in this film. While I do think the pacing of this film could be improved, I do think that the complexity of the relationships between the characters is fascinating.

Examples :

Pierre is going to marry his cousin, even though his love for her seems very cousin-y ?

Pierre and his stepmother have a rather...curious relationship.

Pierre, Lucie, and Thibault seem to have a triangular relationship, and the actual points to the triangle are not quite certain...

Lucie's brother is a bit of a eunuch, or is he ?

And Isabelle, who is she really ??

Overall, I think it was worth my time. An interesting film, and one that makes me want to read Melville.

Reasonable premise, but done better in other shows

I really like Ted. I do. So, I really wanted to like this show. But I didn't. At all.

The "experiments" are hokey, clearly staged, and not realistic in any sense. The acting by the "food techs" is worthy of pity, given the material that they are given. They do the best that they can, but the result is sad.

I thought that the conveyance of scientific information might save the show. But it doesn't. While there are some interesting tidbits here and there, much of the information is non-specific and vague. A "study" will give results of "many" or "some" instead of actual data.

I think Ted tries. I really think he does. The show seems to try to fill a space in between "Good Eats", "America's Test Kitchen", and "MythBusters". It doesn't.

I still like Ted, though.
