Enola Holmes (2020)
Exciting with a marvelous story and impressive performances.
"Enola Holmes", I will be honest, the only reason why I initially watched this movie is because I like Sherlock Holmes. This movie was not what I expected but turned out to be much better. Millie Bobby Brown did a fantastic job portraying the character 'Enola'. The story based on 1884 paints the picture beautifully of London during that time. As a feminist I felt joy seeing how Enola was raised to be a strong women by her mother and to not fit into a 'box' created by society.
The story soon turns into an adventure where she meets Tewkesbury, a runaway Lord. They shared a remarkable chemistry between them and ended up helping each other throughout the film. Enola has not one but two mysteries to solve which were being pursued by her famous brother, Sherlock Holmes, as well. I thoroughly enjoyed that Enola, a young girl, outsmarted Sherlock Holmes multiple times in the movie and gave Sherlock no choice but to feel proud of her.
The movie is filled with excitement, emotions and twists which will keep you on the edge of your seat. The movie is a result of great storytelling, great costumes, great filming and great performances by the cast. Along with entertainment, the film also educates us on the struggles of being a woman during that period and how some women, including Enola's mother, stood up for their rights. Her words "You have to make some noise if you want to be heard" really stuck with me.
I would highly recommend watching this movie and I promise you will not be disappointed.
