Sadie Sparks (2019– )
10/10
An Underrated, Slightly Flawed, yet Funny and Uplifting Series
4 May 2021
Sadie Sparks isn't the most groundbreaking piece in animation, but it's certainly a pretty decent show and it cheered me up when I was feeling really stressed about exams. It was just so nice to watch a cartoon that wasn't heavily episodic; I could just relax and enjoy and laugh. I also really love it when shows blend more than one medium; it's been something I've been wanting more of ever since I first saw Gumball all those years back. The dynamic between Sadie and Gilbert is also pretty enjoyable as well, and I liked seeing how Sadie's upbeat, clumsy attitudes contrasted with Gilbert's grumpy, sarcastic nature. The show isn't perfect, and it does indeed have its flaws (such as how we don't even get an actual origin episode to how the general ideas of the series came to be, and how there aren't too many episodes that are focused on showing different character perspectives outside of Gilbert and Sadie's), but I genuinely didn't really mind them. I just seriously praised the writers for not making the big threat of the finale about fighting a big evil, since that's a theme in cartoon finales I've kinda gotten a bit tired of (and that's all I'll be talking about the finale, because you seriously need to see it for yourself!). Overall, Sadie Sparks is a pretty underrated yet funny and uplifting show that really cheers me up in my darkest moments. I fully recommend you give it a watch if you're just looking for something simple to enjoy.
