glorious bava brilliance!!!
2 November 2001
my personal favorite of bava's films, though perhaps not technically his best. haunting tale of a town living in superstition and a scientific medical man there to look into bizarre death. spectacular mix of supernatural and gothic horror, impeccably shot as is always true of bava. the swing shot and strange chase scene are pinnacles of excellence. one of horror's true classics...

one of the most perverse and disturbing horror flicks ever...
31 October 2001
this movie is fantastic, don't let the idiots who voted on it here scare you away!!!! this film, like "let's scare jessica to death," is a low budget american horror film, not at all the most likely genre to find something good. but, again like "let's scare...", this is in fact quite terrifying. it is the story of a young man who was burned by his mother as punishment, and now takes out his mysoginistic hatred on young beauties. the first death scene (with a flamethrower in a fire-retardant room), is one of the most brutal terror scenes ever shot. disturbing, nauseating, and wonderful!

PERHAPS THE GREATEST FILM IN HISTORY!!!!!
31 October 2001
this is one of my favorite movies ever! along with casablanca and cannibal holocaust, this is near perfect cinema. rex allen narrates this wonderful tale of a cougar who just needs a little loving. contains action, adventure, suspense, comedy, and riverbed chaos! SEE THIS MOVIE IF YOU HAVE TO KILL TO DO IT!!! you will not find a better cat picture anywhere, with "cat from outer space" coming in as a not so close second. charlie's performance is magnificent. even includes animal cruelty and intense logging! gotta love disney, for all moral failures!

a psychedelic, new-wave punk rock classic!
25 August 2001
anne carlisle stars in a fantastic double role as a lesbian supermodel and her gay brother. aliens arrive in manhattan, in search of, as all aliens are, better drugs. realizing that earth's greatest drug is the chemical produced when the human achieves orgasm, the visitors steal the chemicals, and thus lives, of orgasmic young drug-users. the film is a jumble of bludgeoning new wave noise, eerie imaging, and a sexy cast, complete with Paula Sheppard (the girl from 'alice, sweet alice') in her only other role. the script is amusingly vile, the cast competent, and carlisle is ridiculously hot as either sex. some find the film hard to watch, but for me it's quite comforting. directed by slava tsukerman.

maybe my favorite b-grade film of all time...

wonderful and amusing punk rock version of the teen gang movie. when new teacher andy norris (perry king) arrives at lincoln high, he unwittingly pits himself against a gang of punks led by the legendary timothy van patton (who shocks the audience with a beautiful self-written piano solo). as norris continues to investigate the punks' behavior, he finds himself and his wife caught up in violent world of high school brutality. some of the best and worst moments in video history are caught within the action-packed 93 minutes. absolutely fantastic cult film, deserves many, many viewings...

perhaps the most brilliant, beautiful, and disturbing "horror" film of all time.
25 August 2001
directed by italian maestro ruggero deodato, 'cannibal holocaust' is a haunting, beautifully filmed masterpiece. deodato, known for a spattering of mostly laughable eroto-horror, hit the mark with a few wonderful pictures, notably 'house by the edge of the park,' 'jungle holocaust,' and this, his greatest film. contrasting powerful, horrific imagery with a gorgeous, melodic soundtrack by composer riz ortolani. the most impressive aspect of the film, however, is it's remarkable super-realism. i have seen very few horror films, if any, that are acted with such passion and naturality. the film is exploitative, extreme, brutal, and marvelous... see it!
