Foundation: Barbarians at the Gate (2021)
No wonder episode 2 was so horrible
This story would have been better in the traditional way moving forward only, and showing brief flashbacks for deeper stories that only book fans would know about.
You should only have back and forth time jumps in a TV adaption when the source material's fanbase is massive. Like DC Comics, Marvel, Harry Potter, even The Bible!
But doing it with a book many have never heard about written by an author that again, many have never heard about? Bad choice...
Alas, now that I understand that there will be time jumps in either direction, I can somewhat enjoy this series as a sci-fi enthusiast. Though I know it will just not live up to episode one's high bar, which I must say again was near perfect.
PS: Not a fan of the books. Never even heard of neither the author nor the book series. But, I will certainly give the books a read because episode one was that good.
Foundation: Preparing to Live (2021)
Why Rush So Many Individual Stories?
I'm baffled... Do they not plan on a second season?
Episode 1 gave us some hints, though not subtle, of what to expect and overall, made me think this may be one of the greatest sci-fi series of the modern age.
This episode suddenly skipped months of the development of said hints, particularly some individual stories, overnight. No natural build-up whatsoever.
Even introduced characters with apparent deep stories and connections that we never get to see develop.
The only story that seems to be properly developing is back on Empire's main planet. Though this was partially skipped as well.
Then there's the cliffhanging, but ridiculously confusing plot twist at the end of the episode.
If episode 3 is just as bad and doesn't explain the events of episode 2 in a kind of flashback way, I'll just rate the rest of this series as 1/10 because I wouldn't be able to understand anything.
You build a connection with audiences by slowly developing reasons to like, dislike or hate a character.
Hopefully episode 3 (and the rest of the season) makes up for it.
Foundation: The Emperor's Peace (2021)
Solid 9/10
This was a great introduction to what might be one the G. O. A. T.s of the sci-fi series genre.
The opening narration could have been a little better, but it did a great job overall.
The story itself, is superb so far. And the casting! Oh the casting... The emperor, his face, his mannerisms, etc. Are perfect for the role of a douche! I love it! 😂
Dr. Seldon... top notch guy. The writers did an awesome job with the lines, and the actor did an awesome job making me feel like he is indeed a stoic, but passionate genius!
As for the protagonist, she is very similar to Dr. Seldon in intellect and character, but has the added benefit of being a bit more of a people person, making her a little less likely to p- off others.
Excited for episode 2!
