The Mysterious Benedict Society (2021)
I finally leaned about Tether Ball, 4 episodes in
Witty, funny, intriguing. Fun storyline and wonderful visuals - set design, colors, line work, shaping and juxtaposition of characters to spaces - very awesome. Eye Candy for the creative.
The characters were well-thought-out and enjoyable and the layers of story added to the fun of the mystery.
Great job! :) I had flashbacks of tether ball on my grade school playground - and realized I've only just now learned how it's meant to be played and to what end...
The "bookshelves" in the villain's office...
Gemini situations, a fun, telling, intro., the soundtrack throughout, the cast selection is spot on!
This series has been more interesting and fun than many adult-oriented shows lately. It's nice to feel engaged and interested, as well as inspired by various scenes.
So many fun things, scenes, and stories.
Thanks!
Matilda: The Musical (2022)
The children in this film are simply revolting!
Interesting, cheesy, humorous, over the top, triumphant musical...
Filled with fantastically exaggerative characters that take us through a wonderfully whimsical series of interconnected tales fraught with fear-fighting, anti-bullying, character-building, full-on-funny, in-your-face-silly, and beautiful-bonding, and magical moments set to incredibly full and fast lyrics and instrumentation, all sharing an overall positive message for the whole family to enjoy.
Wonderful cast of characters that seemed more inclusive than many.
Matilda lives with dismissive, and often cruel parents who got stuck with her for some unknown reason... she befriends a mobile librarian and escapes into stories while basically home-schooling herself, until she's found out and sent away to a scary school where things aren't much better and get even worse before she discovers hidden talents through the help of a caring teacher and friends she encounters.
The film ends with everyone getting a bit of what they deserve and moves happily onward.
The musical bits are disbursed throughout and not too heavily, if you're one who usually avoids those... it's tolerable. The songwriting is witty and fun, for those who DO enjoy musicals, and can carry those who do not. ;)
With the watch for sure.
What We Do in the Shadows: Private School (2022)
Maternity/Paternity Play?
One of the funniest episodes with creepy Colin and his "family".
It kinda gave me a headache, in a good way.
The Jinn was definitely put to the task with each ask...
The Jewel of the Nile (1985)
GOOF: Women's screams from all-male crowd
Around 1:36:43 scene at finale, as the stuff starts to hit the fan, and despite the all-male crowd, we hear women's screams, higher in pitch and range than the men's...
Made me laugh, like the rubber rocks on the bridge-crossing in the first film.
2067 (2020)
Annoying AF lead character (good job acting it though)
Interesting and "timeless" storyline. Fun to think about, but I would have had to take out the lead character if I was stuck with him for any amount of time...
I would think he would have been a somewhat hardened individual, having to survive in such a low station and treacherous world.
Heck, the world as we now know it does wonders to harden people and it's nowhere near as dystopian as this depiction.
I'd have rather seen a bada ss female lead - I'm sure she wouldn't have been such a whiny little boy.
Invasion (2021)
This is how so many bad relationships last far too long...
I keep hoping it will be better, will get more interesting. My curiosity and hope keep me checking back in... feels like a late night call.
I don't mind a slow burn, but this crawling reveal, although nice to look at, is becoming more irritating than enjoyable, like dating a liar... lol
"Foundation" is another of appleTV's, "unfolding" type of story, much like life in general, but it is at least interesting on multiple levels and gives just the right amount to keep interest, without leaving the viewer feeling more deceived, than rewarded.
I ended up skipping ahead through much of the latest episode (S1/E6) just to get to its slightly interesting end, so I could watch "Foundation" which is actually an entertaining series that GIVES!
Granted, I'm nearly ready to just tune out of all their attempts...
