The Fall Guy (2024)
8/10
Gosling Shines
2 May 2024
Have you ever wondered if the stunt double in a movie had their own stunt double?

It might sound wild, but that's the wild and quirky charm 'Fall Guy' brings to the table. From its head-scratching quotes and title play to the unexpected plot twists, this film is a rollercoaster of entertainment. And don't get me started on the behind-the-scenes-exploring the intricate world of movie-making, where the magic of doubles, angles, pyro, and action scenes unfolds.

But that's just the beginning. As a film enthusiast, I was captivated by the flow and display of behind the scenes of this film. Ryan Gosling's character, Colt, embodies this mix of vulnerability and resilience-taking beatings like a champ while navigating the complexities of romance and regret.

One of my favorite scenes was him singing to Taylor Swift in the car because he knew he messed up and got caught by his former love, awkward, I know, but hilarious for me as a viewer. I've been there before.

The movie truly has it all-action-packed sequences, top-notch cinematography, and a seamless thematic flow. It's a blend of tension, romance, and laugh-out-loud humor that keeps you hooked. And those memorable quotes? They hit hard, especially when Colt confesses to Jody (Emily Blount),

'None of it ever hurt as much as not being with you.' Referring to Colt's stunts hurting him but not as much as losing the love of his life.

In a nutshell, 'Fall Guy' is a must-watch that showcases Ryan Gosling's versatile acting prowess, placing him in a league akin to Ryan Reynolds. If you're up for a film that surprises, entertains, and tugs at your heartstrings, this one's a winner."L.

Challengers (2024)
9/10
This Movie Serves
24 April 2024
I haven't been this pumped for tennis since my Wii Sports days, but Zendaya truly aced her performance in this film. Every outfit she rocked had me cheering like I was courtside. "Challengers" serves up some intense scenes with a smash portrayal and clever foreshadowing.

The movie cleverly amps up the drama, romance, and betrayal, using music and camera angles to really amplify the on-screen action.

My favorite part?

The tennis match that had me glued to my seat from start to finish. The camera work during the match was like watching a rally-back and forth, capturing every thrilling moment. I was tossing my popcorn in the air in excitement!

The film dives into the highs and lows of the athlete lifestyle, featuring a generational talent facing unexpected challenges, a once-promising player dealing with setbacks, and another player struggling to reach their potential while all battling for love .

I just had the revelation that "Challengers" cleverly mirrors a tennis match, with each character (Art and Patrick) volleying back and forth in their affections for Tashi. One gains the advantage of love, while the other experiences a breakdown. And of course, there's plenty of romantic rallying between them. Which increases my rating.

Even if tennis isn't your thing, "Challengers" packs a punch with its mix of drama, suspense, and thrilling tennis action. This movie is definitely one of the best of 2024-game, set, match!

Felt like two separate movies
21 April 2024
Finally I watched From Dusk Till Dawn, YOU KNOW WHY I AM HERE, to see the iconic Salma Hayek scene. She wasn't hitting that dance tho anyways. This film was awesome but random as I don't know what. First hour I'm intrigued by the fast paced witty and weird (Quentin terentino)drama and methodical set up but and just like 21 savage would say the plot is thicker than Salma Hayek, because the weird on the bank robbers quickly turns into a battle of vampire, I can't help but to feel like I watched two completely different movies. I mean it worked, but it is random cinema with a mix of emotions.

The film kicks off with Quentin Tarantino's trademark rapid-fire dialogue and some seriously bizarre bank robber vibes. You're all strapped in, thinking you're in for a gritty heist thriller, and then suddenly-bam!-vampires crash the party with a titty twister . It's like ordering a cheeseburger and getting a pizza instead. I would say ultimate catfish but Salam Hayek

I mean, it kinda works in a wild and wacky way, but it's definitely a rollercoaster of genres. You go from "Whoa, what's happening?" to "Wait, did that just happen?" in record time. It's like Tarantino and Rodriguez decided to mix a crime caper with a horror flick and tossed in Salma Hayek for good measure.

Also the punchlines went crazy lol

"You know what ever one says about me "I suck" the most Kurt angle quote!!!

"Welcome to slavery! No thank you I already have a wife" But hey, if you're up for a movie that's as unpredictable as a blindfolded chef, From Dusk Till Dawn might just be your fix.

Shameless (2011–2021)
9/10
A must watch for any drama/comedy lover
3 April 2024
Shameless is a captivating comedic drama that follows the struggles of a dysfunctional, low-income, drug-fueled family. The first five seasons are undoubtedly comedic gold, with the character of Frank being one of the most consistently compelling and hilarious protagonists I've ever witnessed on television.

Despite the show's tendency to veer into nonsensical territory at times, the strong character development and the family's resilience in the face of their tumultuous environment kept me engaged. However, as the series progressed, a noticeable shift began to occur.

One of the show's strengths was its ability to showcase the unique journeys of each child in the Gallagher clan. Lip's journey as the gifted sibling, for instance, held great promise, but his character arc seemed to lose its way as the show went on. Similarly, Debbie's transition from a relatively level-headed character to an increasingly frustrating one was a source of disappointment.

The handling of other characters, such as Carl, sometimes felt unnecessary.

The departure of Fiona, the glue that held the family together, was a pivotal moment for the show. Without her presence, the series seemed to lose its edge, with the once-gritty depictions of drug use, sex, and violence becoming increasingly toned down and sanitized.

By the time I reached the final three seasons, the show's narrative cohesion and the characters' development had become increasingly disjointed, leaving me with a sense of disappointment. The show's ability to balance the comedic and dramatic elements, which had been its hallmark, seemed to falter.

Overall, Shameless showcased immense potential, particularly in its earlier seasons, with its talented ensemble cast and audacious storytelling. The amount of outrageous content and scenes made this series feel easy to binge. Although it didn't finish as well as it started, it is still a fantastic drama-filled comedy worth the watch. It's definitely in my top 10 series watched.

Waves (I) (2019)

Waves immersed me in a powerful current of authentic drama and emotion!
11 March 2024
The film addresses realistic issues such as overbearing parenting, teenage struggles with family expectations, performance anxiety, and navigating difficult emotions, culminating in the heartbreak of a breakup.

The initial hour masterfully captures the son's intense emotions, employing low-fi ambiance and emphasizing crucial scenes without heavy reliance on dialogue. This unique storytelling approach resonated with me, showcasing the film's ability to convey a strong message through various elements.

However, the latter part, focusing on the aftermath of the tragic event, loses some of the initial intensity and pathos. Despite its length, the film remains engaging due to strong performances, a compelling cast, a well-crafted plot, and genuine depictions of human emotions.

Madame Web (2024)
2/10
Street level movie
11 March 2024
Just caught Madame Web m, and sadly, it falls short of expectations. Dakota Johnson's performance lacks conviction, leaving the film feeling flat. The camera work and scenes left me puzzled, with moments that seemed more suited for a low-budget production or a Netflix release. While reminiscent of Netflix superhero series like Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones, Madame Web lacks the weight for a mainstream theatrical release, lacking real threats, emotional appeal, and that signature Marvel impact. The villain's lip sync voiceover only added to the disconnect. What really dampened the experience was the absence of a post-credit scene-no anticipation, no boom. Madame Web failed to leave its mark.

Enjoyable, missing something
11 March 2024
Bob Marley's "One Love" somehow felt incomplete, lacking the dramatic element that could have given the story a more profound impact. The unity portrayed between politicians in the end credits seemed disconnected from the movie's narrative, reminiscent of the bloods and Crips meme but not adequately explored. While the initial drama captivates, it somewhat dissipates, and the first 15-20 minutes seem recycled from the trailers. Despite these shortcomings, the movie has its merits - the musical aspect is enjoyable, and the authentic Jamaican accents add a genuine touch. It's a peaceful film, but it falls within the ordinary, earning a modest three out of five stars from me.

INCREDIBLE
11 March 2024
The Incredibles, an absolute gem 💎 of a movie! This Disney Pixar animated masterpiece, adorned with nostalgic memories of my childhood, had a special place in my heart alongside my Incredibles DVD 📀 Mr. Incredible toy and the Jack Jack's behind-the-scenes clips.

From the captivating downfall of supers to a plot brimming with action, twists, and subtly mature themes, every frame is a testament to cinematic brilliance. The voice acting, with memorable quotes from Frozone and Mrs. Incredible's life-threatening pep talks, adds an incredible depth. The characters' evolution, both in design and narrative, is a visual feast.

A timeless classic for superhero enthusiasts, The Incredibles seamlessly weaves an engaging story. Dash's super speed made him my absolute favorite, and even now, I can recite lines from memory. This movie is a meticulously crafted cinematic marvel, etching itself as a true piece of incredible cinema!

Dune is HIM!
11 March 2024
Dune Part Two completely astounds as a cinematic masterpiece, weaving a compelling tale of a young Messiah navigating a political landscape. With elegant action scenes, iconic moments, a captivating love story, and ultimate HIM moments, it surpasses expectations.

While the first part felt like a setup, Dune Part Two addresses the critiques. Its lengthy duration and intricate interconnections between houses, characters, and agendas pose challenges, yet the density of each character adds to the film's enjoyment.

Austin Butler's villainous role is offsetting but well-executed, showcasing the film's diverse array of characters. The story continuously expands, creating a captivating narrative.

The main character's tremendous development, from a humble to an arrogant, confident approach, adds depth. The film achieves a perfect balance of action, plot, character development, love interest (Florence Pugh and Zendaya shine), and a touch of unexpected comedy.

Timothe Chalamet and Austin Butler stand out, contributing to the film's success. The ending, with its great action scene, monologue, and setup for the future, elevates Dune Part Two to the top-tier movie category. For sci-fi enthusiasts, this is a must-watch.

Nothing Stands Out
23 December 2023
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom seem to have taken a dive, leaving us with a rather soggy DC EU experience. Jason Momoa's Aquaman fails to make a splash as a top-tier superhero, and the revenge tour promised by Black Manta turns out to be more of a leisurely swim. Forget showcasing Aquaman's raw power; we're stuck with a neglectful father, husband, and king who happens to be proficient at water aerobics. The movie spends more time on side attractions like cinematography, visuals, and subordinates, forgetting that Aquaman should be the main event. With attempts at humor falling flatter than a sunken ship, it's clear they lost the recipe that made the first Aquaman somewhat tolerable. And seriously, a DCEU finale without a Justice League cameo? It's like they're drowning in missed opportunities. I'll generously give it a two out of five-mainly for the underwater scenery.

Candy Cane Lane (I) (2023)
5/10
Dash of Cheer, a Pinch of Symbolism, and a Sprinkle of Cringe
3 December 2023
Candy Cane Lane delivers a festive punch with its spirited competition for the title of the best-decorated house, adding a touch of homey charm to the holiday tale. The unexpected twist involving a mischievous elf banishment brings a hint of symbolism, though I might be delving too deep into it. Nevertheless, the Christmas magic is palpable, complete with 'Parents Just Don't Understand' vibes, vibrant colors, and whimsical decor.

While the humor occasionally falls short in delivery, with jokes teetering on the edge of laughter, the movie brings forth chuckles and witty lines like "You elf'in kidding me." Admittedly, it felt like a subtle ad campaign for Jeep, El Segundo's Candy Cane Lane, and USC-Fight on, I suppose. Despite the cheesy and slightly cringy Christmas love, it's a worthwhile watch during the holiday season. I'd give it a festive 2.5/5 stars - because, after all, 'tis the season for a bit of Christmas movie magic!

Thanksgiving (I) (2023)

You'll be craving seconds
25 November 2023
Get ready to skip the leftovers because this Thanksgiving, we've got a cinematic feast that'll leave you craving seconds! Ever wondered when was the last time a Thanksgiving-themed movie hit the screens? Me neither, until "Thanksgiving" graced us with its presence.

The opening scene deserves a standing ovation-or maybe just a comfortable chair since it's the longest 10 minutes in cinematic history. Amidst characters hinting at a horror flick, the anticipation builds, and before you know it, you're knee-deep in satirical comedy centered around the madness of Black Friday. It is outrageously hilarious, even when people start losing skin or playing a dangerous game of glass piercings or human stampede-talk about retail therapy gone wrong.

Now, onto the main course-there's a killer on the loose, and they're on a rampage of vengeance. No spoilers, but let's just say the killings are gruesomely creative, and the survival skills of the characters are as questionable as their decision-making. It's a comedic slaughter-fest that'll have you questioning your laughter ethics.

The film doesn't shy away from over-the-top gore, but if you approach it with an open mind, forgetting any notions of supernatural powers, you'll find it surprisingly enjoyable. In a year starving for decent horror flicks, "Thanksgiving" serves up a dish that's both easy to follow and oddly satisfying. I'm carving out a solid 3.5 stars out of five, landing a respectable seven out of 10 and a grade of C+. So, if you're hungry for laughs and gore this holiday season, "Thanksgiving" is the movie to sink your teeth into.

Gran Turismo (2023)
7/10
Surprisingly Captivating
29 August 2023
Gran Turismo proves to be surprisingly captivating, offering crucial moments that meticulously delve into the world of professional car racing. While incorporating subtle nods to PlayStation and video games, the movie follows a straightforward narrative. The focal point remains on Jahn, a Gran Turismo simulation gaming prodigy, who aspires to transition from gaming stardom to becoming a professional racer. The storyline takes us through his journey, touching upon trials, tribulations, and moments of doubt, all culminating in a harrowing accident that gripped the entire theater audience.

Although these moments could have been more intense, they manage to do justice to the story, leaving room for interpretation based on individual perspectives, whether at the beginning or end of the movie. Personally, I found myself engrossed from start to finish. The plot is intriguing and the actors performance, straddling the line between simulation and reality, is impeccably executed-a quality I especially appreciated as both a gamer and a movie enthusiast.

Considering all factors, I firmly bestow upon Gran Turismo a solid rating of 3.5 out of five stars. It's definitely worth a watch, and the experience becomes even more immersive if you're seated in the dbox, allowing you to feel every bump and bruise as if you were part of the action. Gran Turismo successfully highlights the perilous nature of NASCAR racing, offering a global nod to gamers everywhere.

A splash for Basketball Fans
22 August 2023
This documentary showcases Stephen Curry's incredible journey to becoming the greatest shooter of all time! From his college days battling during March Madness , which gave me goosebumps, to his trials in the NBA, it's captivating.

The focus on determination, proving the naysayers wrong and pushing through setbacks, especially with Curry completing his bachelor's, was inspiring. Bring back NCAA college hoops games!

The only downside for me was the sense that something was lacking, and the ending seemed rushed. Not much focus on Curry holistically (including family) but I guess you can't have it all.

Overall, a solid watch, earning 3.5/5 stars!

The Trailer Summed It Up, Literally
19 August 2023
Honestly, everything in the trailer neatly encapsulates this film. I could've skipped the movie and still grasped its impact and storyline, as if the essence remained untouched.

Not to say it lacks humor - there are chuckles, especially from voiceovers and canine camera focus. These doggy scenes are quite amusing. Yet, some jokes teeter on excessive, veering into overwhelmingly inappropriate territory. While off-color humor usually tickles my funny bone, the constant "dick" talk had me holding back laughter.

The plot itself is decent, but don't expect a cinematic masterpiece. It's here for a good time and delivers that. Though, like me, you might drift after the first 30 minutes, pondering if it's just a doggy dash through the city. Paw Patrol prep, anyone?

All in all, it's subpar for me. Comedy's a tough nut, and this felt more like a short stretched into a movie, better suited for streaming. I'm giving it a below-average 2 out of 5 stars.

Blue Beetle (2023)
8/10
Competent Origin Story
19 August 2023
Just caught BlueBeetle in its dazzling debut! James Gunn's DC Universe kicks off with a bang, serving up an exciting and expertly crafted origin story that's anything but ordinary. From introducing a fresh hero to a wide audience to weaving in Mexican culture, language, and music, this film nails it! Prepare for some intense themes that'll get you talking.

Xolo Mariduñea brilliantly lights up his character (Jamie Reyes/ Blue Beetle ) creating space for the supporting cast to embrace a delightful comedic charm. A special nod goes out to George Lopez (Rudy Reyes) , Belissa Escobedo (Milagro Reyes), and Adriana Barraza (Nana Reyes) for crafting moments of pure and authentic laughter.

Key elements sought in an origin story are effectively met: authenticity that resonates with the character, growth as the hero navigates new-found powers , heartache , and a burgeoning romantic interest with Jenny Kord (Bruna Marquezina). The portrayal of the love interest is captivating, rooted in the concept of Familia , and resonates with profound emotional chords. Certain scenes may evoke tears from viewers.

In the end, Blue Beetle presents a startling and remarkable cinematic experience. It is certainly worth watching. Regardless of whether one is an avid superhero enthusiast, anyone with a Mexican background will embrace this narrative. I rate Blue Beetle a solid 4 out of 5.

Authentic, Funny, Entertaining
31 July 2023
This movie delivers laughs, awesome ninja action, and stays true to the beloved characters while setting the stage for future projects.

Whether you're a seasoned TMNT fan or new to their world, this film bridges that gap with a fresh origin story. The quirky visuals add to its charm and artistic style, making it an enjoyable watch.

The voice acting is spot-on, and I couldn't help but laugh at the cleverly delivered lines, even Super Fly (Ice Cube) dropping music lyrics - shout out to Drake! Seeing the turtles' teenage awkwardness and nostalgic traits brought back cherished memories.

My only critique is the movie's focus on Leonardo, leaving the other turtles somewhat sidelined. Still, I rate "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem" a solid four out of five stars! It's a multi-generational delight with adult-themed humor and an epic '90s-inspired soundtrack!

A Terrific Thriller!
29 July 2023
Not usually into horror, but this one really impressed me! The story was solid from start to finish, and the ending left me thoroughly satisfied.

Following a group of teens using a chilling ritual to summon spirits, the film delivered intense moments with gruesome displays. It wasn't scary for me personally, but the horror elements were well-balanced, allowing the actors to shine.

The movie skillfully built up the story and had unexpected character twists. "Talk to Me" explores the eerie world of conjuring spirits, bridging the living and the dead. A terrific display of possession on both sides!

If you're a horror fan, this one's a must-watch! I'm giving "Talk to Me" a solid four out of five stars!

A Missed Opportunity!
28 July 2023
Disney's haunted mansion does not do much does it stand out from an average film which is unfortunate due to the stat cast that hat and that's not to say that the movie didn't have a couple of chuckles couple of laughs, or didn't have his moments where your stars shine, but overall, the movie doesn't do much to move the needle it's average movie.

Haunted mansion a remake from the original film that came out with starring Eddie Murphy and after watching this remake, I feel it would've been great to pay homage to the OG Phil it could've added an extra bit of enjoyment to the film or make the film 3-D, so we can see all the ghostly hauntings They need to be something extra to bring more enjoyment out of it.

Other than at the storyline is decent there's a subtle plot twist stores in, but not much of build up for us to truly be nervous, afraid, or emotionally engaged. Other than that I don't have much to say about film.

Oppenheimer (I) (2023)
7/10
A Slow Burn with Beautiful Theatrics
26 July 2023
After watching Oppenheimer, my initial impression was that the movie felt excessively long and slow-paced. However, from a theatrical standpoint, it is undeniably beautiful. The story revolves around Dr. Oppenheimer being interrogated due to security clearance issues, with flashbacks depicting his journey and contribution to the creation of the atomic bomb, often switching between black and white visuals. The dialogue is intense and weighty, which may appeal to some while potentially dissuading others who prefer more action and a faster pace.

One area where Oppenheimer shines is in building anticipation for the main attraction of the movie, the bomb. Regrettably, the bomb-related action amounts to merely about three minutes. There is also the added element of Florence Pugh's presence, providing some eye candy for the audience.

Oppenheimer feels like a showcase of cinematic prowess, portraying how exceptionally impactful a film can be. To fully grasp its depth, it may require watching in increments, pausing, and analyzing the intricate details of the story and character actions.

In conclusion, while Oppenheimer may not be everyone's cup of tea, I must acknowledge its visual brilliance and rate it a solid seven out of ten.

funny, fascinatingly quirky, and contemplative elements
24 July 2023
This movie perfectly blends funny, fascinatingly quirky, and contemplative elements. The plot revolves around cloning to push an agenda that may seem crazy, especially considering all the conspiracies surrounding Jamie Foxx.

The film has a trippy vibe that reminds me of 'Get Out,' it also incorporates a nostalgic touch with grain camera views and characters dressed and speaking like they're from the '70s, while the primary environment and drug movement( crack) give off an '80s vibe. Yet, amidst all this, the characters speak modernly, creating a unique juxtaposition.

'They Cloned Tyrone' has everything - from thugs and pimps to hoes and tricks - for a loaded and intriguing funny storyline.

Jamie Foxx shines with his comedic prowess in every scene, adding an extra layer of entertainment. The movie's concept is strong, but the execution might not be everyone's cup of tea. Nevertheless, it's a solid watch packed with funny moments that keep you engaged.

While it may not be a life-changing masterpiece or a paradise for all, it serves its purpose well and earns an above-average rating from me - 3/5.

This is what action movies are made of
21 July 2023
Mission Impossible sets the standard for action films.

Two noteworthy aspects: firstly, the inclusion of submarines in movies seems premature, and secondly, the excessive dominance of artificial intelligence is becoming absurd.

Returning to the subject at hand, this marks my initial experience with a Mission Impossible film, and it reveals what the Fast and Furious franchise strives to achieve. However, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning surpasses it as the epitome of coolness. Normally, I tend to doze off during movies, especially when they approach the three-hour mark, but that's not the case here. The action sequences and cinematic chases are truly exceptional, featuring thrilling gadgets and breathtaking moments.

The plot revolves around Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), the main character, and his team's quest to acquire a key that holds the fate of the world. Unfortunately, their plans encounter obstacles when an artificial intelligence entity interferes, and to make matters crazier, four different organizations are vying for possession of the key, each pursuing their own agenda.

In addition to Tom Cruise's suave portrayal of Ethan Hunt, another highlight of the movie is the supporting character Grace, portrayed by Hayley Atwell. The dynamic between Ethan and Grace is filled with spice and wit, providing ample opportunities for Grace to demonstrate her natural prowess as a thief while Ethan strives to earn her trust.

The movie's prologue is lengthy but distinct, featuring several scenes in diverse locations. One particularly captivating scene takes place in a stormy desert shootout, which immediately caught my attention. Personally, my favorite scene was the one set in an airport. The sheer amount of activity and meticulous attention to detail created a seamless and exhilarating experience. The anticipation for something significant to occur was truly eye-opening. Additionally, the train scene, serving as the film's climax, provided the most thrilling moments.

With a well-crafted storyline and enthusiastic action, it's evident why the Mission Impossible franchise has achieved such longevity. Although certain events in the movie stretch believability, they still manage to remain within the realm of plausibility for this film. I enjoyed every minute of it, and I wouldn't hesitate to watch it again. Furthermore, I eagerly anticipate the sequel. I rate Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning 8.5/10.

Sad, True, difficult to watch
21 July 2023
"God's children are not for sale", and it has to be one of the strongest statements made in the film. Sound of Freedom tells a story that may be difficult for someone to watch regarding child trafficking. The film's direction pays attention to camera angles and shadows, ultimately displaying what goes on in the dark of this cruel, cruel world.

Although the message is strong, the movie is heavy on the story and emotional appeal rather than any other elements. This methodical approach led to some dull moments or not as many heighten moments yet the heightened moments were clenching, the focus being solely on the level rather than diving too deep into other characters who may have been involved.

It's a sad movie, slow-paced, with a strong message. You have to be in the right mindset to watch this.

Barbie (I) (2023)

Conflict Barbie
21 July 2023
Barbie offers a delightful and fun-filled experience, encompassing chuckles, joy, and, surprisingly, some deeper discussions surrounding its creation's intended impact on feminism versus the portrayal of opposing views on women in real life. It even delves into the influence of patriarchy, hyper-masculinity, and its effects on the mental and emotional struggles women face daily. Initially, I found myself a bit confused since it wasn't quite what I expected. The movie touched on dark themes like death, which left me wanting more answers, especially since it was mentioned often, but it didn't tie up that loose end.

Despite that, the film doesn't target kids but rather adults who once played with Barbies. For the moms out there, it's definitely a movie worth watching.

However, I'm conflicted because it felt like the movie couldn't quite decide what it wanted to accomplish. With so many themes and stories to tell, it somewhat detracts from the overall impact. Nevertheless, it remains an enjoyable experience that nostalgically brings back memories. I'd give Barbie The Movie a rating of 7.5/10. The hype, dressing up, and reliving childhood memories add to its appeal.
