Girl in the Box (2016)
Top Tier Lifetime Movie
Overall I enjoyed this movie; it kept me engaged throughout and stuck fairly close to the true narrative, but did have a lot of creative liberties take .
Along with that, I thought the acting was good in this film. Addison Timlin have a good performance as Coleen Stan, and made the movie believable and the performances by Zane Holts and Zelda Williams were decent, not great, but well enough to make for a decent movie. The production and film direction were above average for its class, and that trend continued through the movie.
This is one of the better movies that Lifetime has released, so if you're a LT fan, it's right up your alley.
Girl in the Basement (2021)
Subpar movie with an intriguing tale.
This film was bad, even for a Lifetime film. This was the absolute butchering of what is harrowing true life event.
The script, directing, and acting were absolutely atrocious, for the most part. Judd Nelson made this movie nearly unwatchable due to his terrible acting; the fist scene was "Honey that was delicious." acted as if it were a middle school play, dictated how incredibly bad this movie was going to be.
Despite what others have said, I thought Stefanie Scott was fairly good in her role, for what she was given; having to play an 18-38 year old, with a horrendous script, is a tough ask of any actor. She managed to carry the bulk of the production; it had a touch of believability.
With that said, all other acting and production was atrocious. The director took the harrowing story of Elisabeth Fritzl (look up the case), and converted it into an atrocious, and incredibly modified narrative.
The amount of creative liberties taken in this film, combined with the horrendous acting and horrible cinematography lead to a monumental flop.
