Law & Order (1990)
How the mighty have fallen
Once a great show, now total garbage. Choices of actors is so poor it's almost shocking. Storylines and editing feel very "mailed in", like they just assume they can turn in a piece of garbage and have it be successful on reputation.
It's that very reputation that has kept me a fan for 20+ years, and it's what keeps me coming back week after week to suffer through this low rent garbage. I can't believe Dick Wolf et al would allow such a great legacy to be ruined in this way.
What to do to improve? Dump the lady that plays the lieutenant, she's a poor actor and totally the wrong fit for a NYPD cop. Dump the white agent that used to be on Burn Notice - he was terrible there and even worse here.
All in all, this is likely to be my last season if they don't get together. Frankly, I'd be surprised if there even is another season if they don't get back to their old standards of excellence. It saddens me to lower my rating down to 1 but I don't know of another way to try and let the show's leadership know how a long time viewer feels about the "new" show.
Top Secret Videos (2020)
No Redeeming Qualities
Brian McMurty is hilarious, as always, but the other two can't even deliver a scripted line with any humor. I don't know who wrote this garbage but it takes barely funny video clips and sucks the fun out of them. Calling this "part office comedy" is an EXTREME overstatement - it's a clip show with scripted jokes that are mostly delivered pretty poorly. And someone should tell the two that aren't Brian that they really should work on laughing at their own jokes a little less. It's a really bad look for the comedians, unfortunately.
Hillbilly (2018)
False advertising
This isn't a documentary about Appalachia or the Appalachian people. This is a documentary about the "shock" of a former Kentuckian who moved to LA and now simply can't believe that the community and people she grew up with could POSSIBLY support Donald Trump for President. They lead with it right from the beginning and are clearly supporting the picture that all Trump supporters are like the ones in Appalachia.
Shocking news, ma'am - there are Trump supporters in L.A., too. Just because you don't know them or hang out with them doesn't mean they aren't there. You may have noticed that in your adopted California community it is not very en vogue to openly support our current President. Supporters have to stay in the closet or not be able to get work in your business,.
This thing feels like a film school project that's worth a "C" at best, unless the professor shares the project's disdain for Donald Trump, then it would surely be granted an "A+".
If you're looking for a real documentary about Appalachia, save your time and skip this one.
The Unsettling (2019)
Super underrated with a big twist at the end
Where does all this hate come from? This isn't the most epic show I've ever seen but it was darn good. I binged it all in one day.
And if you think you know what's coming - I'm pretty sure you don't. Stick it out to the end for a big twist and possible set up for another season.
Dr. Jekyll Better Hide (2019)
What horrid acting.
Interesting concept but the script was painful - people don't talk like that. It sounded like they were reading these long flowery descriptions of their feelings, not speaking naturally to a shrink.
And the acting? Some were pretty decent, but the first patient was the WORST. It hurt to watch it was so awkward. I can only surmise she was someone's sister or girlfriend that the director was pressured to include because she sure doesn't have acting chops AT ALL.
You may wonder, why didn't I turn it off? I just had to see where this weirdness was trying to go.
It seems like there was a decent amount of equipment based upon the number of shot angles, audio quality, etc. They just had nothing much to work with.
And the whole "nun" thing is incredibly misleading. It's not about nuns, or even a nun. There is *one* nun, totally not believable, among a cast of various patients the doctor sees. (I should note it was presented to me under the title Nun's Deadly Confession).
If you're looking a for a movie about evil nuns or something, move along. If you've got a couple hours to waste and are curious then watch at your own risk.
Abe's Tomb (2007)
Ugh
Wow, what a stinker. I love the genre, but this I can't believe this even got published.
I'm not sure about the other comments about hot girls and hilarious characters - the hilarious part is that these guys even can be called actors.
My expectations were very low, and this fell well beneath them. If you don't have the budget for decent cinematography or actors, at least have a compelling story to start with.
Agreed with the kudos to the filmmaker for completing the project, but hopefully this was a "warm up" to better projects to come.
