Goblin (2020)
Simply...inspiring.
God, this movie. Left me horrified, moved, and impressed. My god. The goblin is so realistic looking, I mean, I honestly thought I was watching a documentary. The characters have such depth, the actors have such range...it's phenomenal. We need more goblin representation in the media and in Hollywood, as they are incredibly important figures in everyday life. I even married one, and am now carrying its child, like the lead in this movie. Loved it.
Monsters at Work (2021)
First two episodes don't do the following justice!
Very cute and funny show, definitely reminiscent of the original movies as well as popular media like The Office & Parks and Recreation! As I said above, the first two episodes simply set up the plot, but once you get through those, it becomes incredibly entertaining and easy to binge. I have a good feeling about this show!
Next-Door Nightmare (2021)
A good comedy with the most anti climatic ending possible
I watched this movie simply because I knew it would be incredibly corny, low-budget, and just cringey all around. Who is funding these movies? And why do they hate horror? Like if this is what thrillers are supposed to be then the genre would have died ages ago. The acting is terrible and robotic, the story isn't as complicated as the creators would like to think, and instead of being bone chilling it's laughable. I recommend this film if you want a good laugh lol...and as for the ending...oh my god. Apparently Helen has kidnapped the main character (played by an actress who has the emotional depth of a kiddie pool) and taken her to a house waaaaaay out in the middle of nowhere, where she'll live with her forever and yada yada yada, and yet the cops arrive just in time to save the day. There was hardly a climax at all lmao...anyways, like I said, don't take this movie seriously and you'll have a good time.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch (2021)
It's okay
Having finished Clone Wars and just starting to get into Star Wars Rebels, I was excited to hear a new animated show was coming to the SW franchise. The Bad Batch looked promising, especially since they weren't exactly new, but you hadn't seen them a whole lot either so there was a lot for the creators to work with. However, when the first episodes started coming out, I began to notice an annoyingly obvious trend in Star Wars. I should also mention I completed The Mandalorian, which I also enjoyed as well. That being said, The Bad Batch is literally just The Mandalorian, except their Baby Yoda is Omega and their outlaw babysitter role is shared by the crew. Every episode of both shows is "we need to complete this mission in order to (escape the planet, pay off debt, get utilities)". This plot, although simple, worked for The Mandalorian and always managed to keep me entertained, mostly because it was live-action and the characters felt cool and interesting. The Bad Batch on the other hand, comes off as lazy and makes the viewer wonder "haven't I seen this before...?"(yes, you have). As for the characters, they're just as lazy as the writing. Hunter: strong, masculine lead who is protective
The one smart guy: smart hacker who is also smart
Echo: does literally nothing
Wrecker: strong and crazy but has a soft side
Omega: Baby Yoda but less interesting and more irritating
The bad guy who can aim (?): bad and evil clone because of Order 66
Cid: mean, gambler boss who likes money
Fennec: bounty hunter who is a girl
Most of the names I've had to really think about because of how forgettable the cast is. Star Wars Rebels has a similar plot as well, where Ezra is the gifted youth and is taken in by a crew of, you guessed it, Rebels! But that show made it work as well and kept me intrigued. I just can't help but feel like The Bad Batch is super unoriginal and just copied the other SW shows, as well as that the characters aren't strong enough for an entire project to be based on them. This would have been so much better had it been a three or four episode arc in The Clone Wars show. The crew would feel much more likable and the smaller story would fit perfectly in the smaller arc. I guess the only reason this is a 4-star review and why I'm still watching it is because of the cool settings (my favorites were the droid factory and ship junk yard) and the brief OG character appearances like Rex, that one mixed clone/Twi'lek family, and the sisters we met in the final season of Clone Wars.
