What an utterly ridiculous movie! I kept hoping it might become a great reveal, but no suck luck. "Does this review contain spoilers?" Yeah right. There are no spoilers to be had.

Other than this: don't start it. Don't go past "begin". Turn back. You've been warned.

The stiff, flat characters are hardly believable, and the friendship between the women is cardboard thin. The furious expression constantly worn by actor Steve Bauer as the unfriendly neighbour, Sam Myers, is probably more about the silly script.

And what's with that ending? Man ....

The only character worth watching, is Jason the Chocolate lab (played by Smokey Sinn).

Middle schoolers act better

Potential for a great story, using the opioid crisis in a small town situation made me click on this movie. But very quickly it became clear that perhaps that was a bad idea. I kept it on as background noise while working on dinner.

Terrible lines and mostly awkward acting by the cast, but the most grating was the mother, Diana Adams (Ana Alexander) with her uber fake crying and shaking hands.

Plot holes, unbelievable situations (heavily pregnant woman day-drinking in public), a deep neck wound that only bleeds a smudge, and flat characters don't help.

When the supposed "twist" happened, there was not a shred of believability to be had anywhere.

Don't bother watching this movie unless you are trying to fall asleep.

A splendid, gentle movie

I saw this movie in 1980, and finally managed to buy a copy in the early 2000s. The soundtrack is utterly beautiful, especially the Children's Song. I think this is where I first became a fan of Amy Irving's, and have never changed my mind about this movie. The deaf dancer who teaches deaf children, and the musician who falls in love with her; his support to help her follow her dream; the typical dramas and hardships before they can declare their love --- maybe your everyday love story, but still so sweet, so lovely! The theme song stays with you for a long, long time. Burton Cummings and Jimmy Webb - two names who helped create the music.

A major let-down
17 December 2006
My two teenage boys and I all loved the books; read and re-read them. Can't wait for the next one to come out. We anxiously awaited the movie ---- but we left the theatre totally bummed out. So many changes, many characters missing, parts of the epic journey of Brom and Eragon just completely gone, events changed in a major way, motivation for actions totally ignored, etc. Even the characters are not described as in the book - the Urgals don't have horns, for one. And they have red eyes, instead of yellow. (See Wikipedia for the description of Urgals if you haven't read the books.) If movies like Harry Potter and Spiderman or the Lord of the Rings movies could use so many special effects, we see no reason for Eragon not to be able to show many of the scenes described so wonderfully in the books. Our advice to others: If you have read the books and loved them as we did, or are planning to read them, don't bother seeing this movie. If you haven't read the books, you might enjoy the story and special effects.
