Box of Rain (2022)
The Grateful Dead made me visit Red Rocks Ampitheater
I learned about the Red Rocks Ampitheater from a Grateful Dead documentary. I was born in 1992 so I wasn't a boomer or Gen X Grateful Dead fan in their heyday. My parents weren't either. My mom was born and raised in SoCal like me and my dad in Hawaii. Laid back lifestyle like many Deadhead fans but my parents never got into their music even though they're the prime age. I got into the Grateful Dead on my own. I saw Red Rocks for the first time this year. So much fun. I wonder what it would've been like had I grown up here in SoCal in the 70's like my mom. But yeah Red Rocks is beautiful. I wish I could post a picture.
Lizzie McGuire: First Kiss (2002)
Ronnie is cute but as immature as you'd expect a teen to be
I remember watching this episode and immediately thinking Ronnie was cute and congratulating Lizzie on getting such a hot first boyfriend. I felt bad for Gordo who was obviously super jealous of Ronnie, but I always felt like he and Miranda would've been a better fit anyways. It didn't surprise me when Ronnie dumped Lizzie for a girl at his school simply because it was more convenient for him. A jerk move but a move a teen would totally make in ending their first relationship.
I googled Ronnie's actor and wow is he accomplished! He's got a PhD! Looks can be deceiving and I will admit I pegged him as your typical dumb blonde guy who probably didn't grow up to amount to much, but I was wrong.
The Facts of Life: A Star Is Torn (1987)
I wasn't born until 1992 so I had no idea Cinnamon was a real singer
I didn't know Cinnamon was a real life famous singer named Stacey Q. Furthermore, Stacey Q grew up 10 minutes from me and went to high school near me too. I'm pretty sure my mom's friends knew her. What struck me was how anorexic she looked. She resembled me at my thinnest of 5'3 97 lbs two years ago. It was a stark contrast to the thick bodies of the main girls. I was looking at Stacey Q's 1976 Anaheim High senior yearbook picture and her face is much fuller meaning she lost weight once she became famous even though she didn't need to. She looked too thin in this episode and it didn't look right.
The Baby-Sitters Club (1995)
Why is it ok for a 13-year-old child to date a 17-year-old?
I don't understand why anyone thought it was ok to let a 13-year-old character date a 17-year-old character. Also, at the end of the movie the girl says she'll be 14 next year when she sees him again. She'll be 14 and he'll be 18 and if he has sex with her he'll be convicted of rape. That's a bad message to send.
Family: Expectations (1978)
I'm so glad that sexual harassment wasn't just laughed at in this episode.
I feel like lots of 70's shows glossed over or laughed at sexual harassment in the workplace since sexual harassment wasn't taken seriously back then. If the media had made a point to showcase workplace harassment as not ok then perhaps workplace harassment wouldn't have been so pervasive back then and maybe would even be less pervasive nowadays as well.
