Matlock: Brennen (1994)
Feels Like A Backdoor Pilot
Not a bad episode. However, from all the hints about 'existing friendships' and other vibes it felt like a backdoor pilot for the George Dzundza character, perhaps to take advantage of his recent (three years earlier) Law & Order turn.
Matlock: The Vendetta (1989)
OK Clip Episode Ruined By Inane Ending
This was a clip episode but it wasn't the actual issue with the episode. The ending was totally pointless. It made Matlock look like an old doddering fool, and technically his "trusted" associates were still at the mercy of their kidnapper.
Bonanza: Shadow of a Hero (1971)
The Ending
I agree with others about the ending. It was almost like it was originally scripted as a two-parter but then NBC changed its mind.
Footnote: The scene where Dean Jagger's character tells Ben Cartwright to "go ahead and tell the nominating committee, they'll nominate me anyway", would most likely have had a ring of truth to it for the time period Bonanza was set.
