Chocolate (I) (2019–2020)
6/10
A pretty okay watch
11 December 2021
I watched Chocolate as a casual watch and that's all it still turned out to be. There were moments in the drama that I really liked, which I could safely call its high points but then it maintain a slow pace, never hurrying and never giving too much.

The plot impressed me with its simplicity but the part where I was a bit disappointed was the making of the lead characters. Even though I was happy with the growth that Lee Kang as a character showed throughout the drama (played by a very capable Yoon Kye-sang), I was disappointed with how stagnant ha Ji-won's character stayed throughout. It's one thing to make a character that's quiet, calm and another to make one as someone whose unnaturally quiet. I honestly felt that given how relationships turned out, there was need for some better dialogues for the lead pair.

Having said that, I had a contrasting impression of the other characters. The supporting characters were played by some amazing actors/actresses whose relationships bore complexity and yet, looked really natural. The environment of the hospice with people struggling with their natural problems kept the plot afloat.

Watch Chocolate if you want to learn some valuable bits about life in all their subtlety. If you're hoping for a drama that's going to keep you hung up on it, then this won't be the one.

My Name (2021)
9/10
A drama that deserves much much more appreciation
11 December 2021
I sometimes don't get why certain dramas have not received the attention they deserve. Surely, 'My Name' is one of them.

Hands down, Han So hee & Park Hee Soon stole the show this time. I mean, what a job they've done. With a storyline that keeps you at the edge of the seat all the time supported with some amazing music in the background and good shots, these actors have made Ji-woo and Choi Mu-jin alive. Especially the choreography of the action scenes deserves brownie points.

After having seen Han So hee in few dramas, I didn't expect the performance that she delivered in this one. Even Bo-hyun who appeared only intermittently left a rather permanent mark on whosever life he touched.

If there's any watch that you can call utterly satisfying in all aspects, it is this. Watch 'My Name' if you haven't yet and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

A wholesome watch
11 December 2021
Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha is for those who're looking for a watch that's going to keep them warm for a long time. I started watching the show with similar expectations, and man, i wasn't disappointed. In fact, the simplicity with which this family drama has been made gave it an unusual charm. Away from the citylights, the little town in the countryside and these two beautiful souls meeting and exploring themselves and each other in the process was emotionally powerful.

More than Shin Min Ah, whose calibre I've always got to experience in her previous dramas, i'd give brownie points to Kim Seon ho. He's not only evolved as an actor, but seeing him taking the lead this time surely proves that he's capable of some challenging roles too.

Hometown Cha Cha Cha is wholesome in its simplicity and surely a watch that won't disappoint on any count.

Nevertheless, (2021)
7/10
A aesthetically made drama, with a fragile storyline
11 December 2021
If I have to be honest, Nevertheless is for those who are watching dramas for a cathartic experience and not necessary for its nuances.

The plot is simple, there are no mysteries, no ifs and buts. Yet if you want to watch two actors putting you on an emotionally involving ride that's bound to end where it should (and you know it too), then you've got to watch this. There's nothing grand in the scheme of things in Nevertheless, but little glances, small smiles and touches make it whole. For every person who would want to watch something that takes it time to bloom, supported with two pretty actors and some nice music, Nevertheless is a good watch.

Don't go in expecting too much from the story, rather, go in expecting a good experience and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

A crime/thriller series that's way too good and fresh after a long time!
27 July 2021
I generally don't end up writing reviews, but this is one of the shows that compelled me to do that. It wasn't like anything I've ever watched. The story is unique, and moreover, with such a storyline that contains so many fantastical elements, the performances of the actors made it all come alive.

This is the first time I've watched Lim Ju hwan, and even if he's the antagonist, he left me tear-eyed. The journey is so emotional and so impactful. Ok's a favourite but this time, it's Ju hwan that stole the show for me.

The romance part isn't very detailed and does lack some depth. But nevertheless, the storyline covered up for it especially since its genre is manly thriller. Do watch this one if you love mystery. I can vouch that it will be a watch that'll be worth it. EVERY BIT OF IT.
