Rick and Morty: Unmortricken (2023)
The Best Episode of the Entire Show
Back when I first watched this show, I thought that Total Rickall was the best episode of the show. Then, ever since it aired, I thought that The Vat of Acid Episode was the best episode of the show. Now, I can unequivocally say that this episode, Unmortricken, is the best episode in the entire series. I'm not going to give spoilers in this review, but this episode felt like everything that the series was working up culminating in what can only be described as a perfect form. Heck, this could have been the series finale if they wanted it to be. I'm excited to see where the show goes from here.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Absolute masterpiece
A worthy follow-up to its predecessor in every way. The animation in Across somehow manages to be even better than the animation of the orinal, while the story it sets up could potentially lead to one of the greatest film trilogies of all time. This movie lovingly embraces its comic book inspiration while pushing the boundaries of what animated storytelling can do. Possibly the greatest animated film of all time, and definitely one of the greatest films of all time period. This movie might even look better in hindsight once Spider-Man: Beyond the Spiderverse comes out in late March of next year.
Rick and Morty: Final DeSmithation (2022)
Hilarious One-Off Rick and Jerry Adventure
While this episode is no masterpiece, especially compared to the absolutely amazing episode that came before it, it is certainly not a bad episode. Rick and Jerry make a very hilarious duo that we haven't seen on their own for three whole seasons. The concept of fortune cookies being real and actually controlling one's fate is a very inventive concept, and they expand on it quite well. The episode also happens to be effortlessly quotable (fortune cookies are alien poop). If you're looking for a more serious episode from this season, go watch Night Family. However, if you're just looking for a fun time, this is a great episode of Rick and Morty.
Rick and Morty: Night Family (2022)
Another Absolute Banger
I was pretty excited for this episode going into it. The teasers for the episode were very interesting and showed off a darker tone than usual. My expectations for this episode were high, and they were very easily surpassed. The only reason I'm not giving this episode a 10/10 is because I save scores like that for the true cream of the crop. However, Night Family is easily one of the best one-off episodes they've ever done. The animation and soundtrack in this episode is absolutely gorgeous and beyond belief. Rick and Morty has actually managed to be scary in this episode, and it work really well. There are several scenes from this episode that are absolutely horrifying (in a good way). The episode concept is both nightmarishly twisted and absolutely brilliant at the exact same time. This episode isn't like classic Rick and Morty, it's better than it.
Rick and Morty: Rickternal Friendshine of the Spotless Mort (2021)
Excellent Episode
A return to form for the series after four crummy episodes.
