Murder in Provence (2022)
A little too much male bashing ...
I like mystery shows, and was enjoying this one. However, the third episode, which was obviously supposed to be on the theme of support for the "me too" movement, was so "anti-men" that I don't think I will watch it any more.
The episode deals with the death of a couple of women, but the thing that annoyed me was that other than the main character, every guy in town turned out to be some type of creepy stalker. At the office where one of the women worked, her boss had a history of bad behavior with a subordinate at his last job. Her co-worker was stalking her and sending inappropriate pictures to her. He also creepily stalked another co-worker (she woke up in her apartment at one point to find him in her bed staring at her- having let himself in somehow). The ultimate bad guy turns out to be yet another psycho who preys on women.
Meanwhile the main female lead is asked out for coffee by an old acquaintance. He also starts hitting on her and becomes upset and demeaning to her when she declines his advances. Another plot line in the show involves the case of an older woman who goes missing and has a history of dementia. It turns out that her husband didn't report her missing immediately because he was cheating on her, and had spent the night at a hotel with his secret boyfriend so he didn't notice her missing immediately.
This is definitely a town where any single women should "abandon hope" because literally ever guy in the town is flawed. I get the message, but ended up feeling sorry for men in general after noticing how many examples of "boys behaving badly" there were. There are a lot of losers out there, but having every man in the episode turn out to be a creep in one way or another was just too much. I am sure there are still some "good guys"'left out there!
