Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
Is it a continuation or a spin-off?
I had thought just to put "they screwed up taking out Johnny" ruining a saga for something totally unrelated to the movie just to look good, but the worst thing is that it is not necessary because the movie is a disaster anyway.
Out of nowhere the film gets into an inexplicable political context (curiously in Germany, WW2 cof cof) boring you in what should be the most striking part.
Then you find out that Grindelwald can "see" what is going to happen and so they make a plan with many suitcases but they don't even let it be random and it is a plan that could be seen by a clairvoyant as well.
Credence, the main character of the first movie and one of the most mysterious of the saga, totally disappears, there is hardly a horrible fight where he doesn't turn or do anything and they seem to go to a ridiculous fourth dimension and THAT'S ALL. And yes, some things like finding out he's a Dumbledore they tell you like "oh yes, you're a Dumbledore haha", what?
The ending is not bad but something much better was expected, Grindelwald did not fight even once or do anything, being such a powerful wizard you expected something more than enchanting a dead animal and getting into politics.
And the worst thing is that it doesn't even feel like a continuation, not only because two actors were lost, but also because after the end of the second movie you expected something much more epic than a political discussion and to see if they caught people with suitcases, without doubt the worst of the 3.
Tales from the Borderlands: A Telltale Games Series (2014)
Worst death in entertainment history
To be honest, for being a telltale game, it is by faaaaar the best. If you like these "games" or rather, interactive movies, play it without a doubt is a good option.
But as a fan of borderlands (and making a spin-off part of the canon of the series) I find it impossible to give it a good rating.
Of course I'm talking about Scooter's death. It is normal that it is not a perfect world, but his death is the worst I have ever seen. I wasn't expecting much since I found out about his death because of the 2019 Borderlands 2 dlc... (thanks gearbox for spoiling us) but I still wanted to know how it happened and I was excited even though I knew the sad part.
First of all, did it make sense for Scooter to be there? No not at all. He had barely seen him before to fix a car and nothing else, and then they come back to ask him to make... A ROCKET to travel to space, with a car workshop that is in debt, really? Sorry to be touchy but this is too much even for borderlands. Of the first two games it is the only one that we see (except for the camera seekers that are only seen for a few seconds and do not contribute much) and it is clear that they only added it because we already had empathy for it and thus death would impact more, and it did impact us but not in the way that was intended.
After building, who knows how, a rocket, it turns out that a mechanic is needed on board in case something goes wrong, and of course, why is Springs going to go, who was the one who made this possible and we don't care if he dies? Better to take Scooter even though he said he had no idea about rockets and, for no sense or reason, he would be delighted to be held hostage by a criminal gang on a suicide trip to the headquarters of the most evil corporation there is.
But that's not all, as it was obvious something was going to go wrong, for the most absurd reasons it turns out that the ship is going to explode and the only solution is to release the rockets manually from the outside, and for that they have to press a button inside a trap ridiculous, cartoon-like deadly thing, and then pull a lever (as if, of course, a lever that must be activated from outside in space needed a safety button). Why am I being so technical about all of this? Because that's ALL, obviously Scooter gets his hand stuck and that's how he dies.
I understand what they wanted to do, and that in Borderlands there are a thousand ridiculous ways to die, but even for Pandora this is a ridiculous and meaningless way, and an insult to a character that was there from the first game, to kill him in a spin off that doesn't no one played, where it only appears for 5 minutes and did not contribute anything to the plot other than a "hey there is Scooter from the other games"... it is unforgivable.
You realize that you did everything wrong, when the death of a robot makes more sense and impacts you more than that of a character that has been there since the beginning of the saga.
Infinite (2021)
Infinite mistakes
I had no plans to do a review, but I saw this and I can't help saving someone who wants to see it.
I saw it because it was there and I like all (now almost all) Mark Wahlberg films and well I took a risk without seeing a trailer or anything.
The idea isn't bad, basically it is the plot of Assassin's Creed but it happens naturally not thanks to a machine, in short it is a "reincarnation of memory", but one of them turns bad and wants to destroy the world (not rule it, at least change in that).
I don't think they intended to make a movie for an Oscar, but they are too many things badly done.
I started to see it thinking that it is an action movie, then I see that it is something like science fiction with weapons and super technology things (I don't know with what necessity) and that at no time does they explain why that exists, not even a very poor excuse like "We have more advanced technology thanks to our accumulated experience", nothing.
Then you find out that the bad guy has a special bullet that traps memories from the mind (what?) So that they stop reincarnating their memories, and that since he is tired of that he wants to... kill all humanity *evil laughs in the background*. Why doesn't he kill himself with one of his bullets? For there to be a movie of course. And he wants to achieve that thanks to an egg that kills anything alive and is more powerful than any nuclear bomb, how did he make it? A wizard did it, yes it is also a magic movie.
Wait I'm not done yet. It turns out that this egg was hidden in the protagonist's own body (in his previous life) and that the good team saves each body to investigate why they have that power, really?! Years investigating them with super technology and they didn't even do an autopsy on his wound? At least one x-ray? Incredible, this story was written by a monkey.
And to finish a scene worthy of Fast and Furious with Evan the gray jumping with the motorcycle to fall at the exact moment on top of a plane, magic, because he had no friend with a helicopter that took you there, right?
And best of all... apparently the protagonist has magical/psychological powers that he inherited from his ancestor Merlin that allows him to control his surroundings or something like that (I didn't understand well what he does) ruining the little credibility that the film had and confirming that it is a movie of magic and no action. Well, he walks on the plane thanks to that, then he doesn't use his power anymore (nobody knows why) and at last we have the expected action scene that one would expect from someone who inherited centuries of memory in an instant, and obviously it sucks. If they want to suffer see until the end, even has a scene like matrix dodging bullets, didn't I mention that they can both predict and dodge bullets?
From what you will see the script is terrible, and that I didn't exaggerate in anything beyond the jokes about wizards, and I didn't even mention the typical nonsensical scenes in fights or escapes or how the hell they get to all the places or how they fight with serious injuries, etc.
And yes, I know that a single star is exaggerated but it is to compensate for the other exaggerated ones that give it 5 or 6.
