The film I saw was an American remake. Same name. I reviewed the remake. The original may be even better.
"The Man on the Train" is is a 2011 crime-drama film directed by Mary McGuckian, starring Donald Sutherland and Larry Mullen Jr. The movie was a remake of a 2002 French film directed by Patrice Leconte.
The remake, IMO, is an excellent film. It takes a bit of sitting back and letting the film do it work. Luckily the music helps a lot. The film is a wonderful melding of good film characters, dialogue, music, plot, poetry.
The viewer will soon realize (or at least I felt) that this is not a hard-core crime film. There is a bit of Ray Bradbury here.
Yes, I think it could be tweaked a bit further. I do not care for Donald Sutherland as an actor. He is too 'Donald Sutherland'. The man on the train, the robber, could have been a different actor and maybe better.
Bottom line: at least watch the remake. Like I said, the original may be better,
